Aaaand it's snowing again. Good thing that I bought an extra snow brush/ice scraper because I think that the other one is in the car in Indiana. Maybe I'll buy a third brush....Good day to stay inside, drink tea, do homework, and some unpacking.

Today is the first day that I'm feeling good since the accident. Yesterday, my neck was killing me, which sent me roaming around the house looking for ibuprofen, which I eventually found. I've got to finish my homework quickly because I need to get this place organized.

I had a breakthrough with Harlee. She's been hiding in the closet behind some long dresses that I have hanging and in the half of the closet with closed doors. I uncovered her last night, which she really didn't like, and discovered that the poor thing had been lying on top of pairs of my shoes, which couldn't be comfortable. I pulled the shoes out of there (Harlee retreated behind a crate) and moved her little kitty bed  where she had been lying, and moved the long dresses back so I couldn't see her. Then I stayed there for a long time just talking to her, trying to calm her down and let her know that I am indeed Mommy. Eventually I left to go get ready for bed, when Harlee started calling me. I came back, and she jumped up on a chest on which I put a velour throw, and we had a good petting session. This morning, she was in her kitty bed.

I now have a fireplace screen. I ordered it online from Target, but apparently they had it in stock, so it was ready for pickup yesterday. And now I have an electric teakettle (also from Target) and some more food.

I'm trying to keep in mind that I'm heating and lighting a much larger place than I'm used to. The light in the office leaves something to be desired, so I bought a desk lamp to light my desk area, and it's perfect. I was concerned about the cats being in the dark before I get home, so I bought each of them a nightlight that comes on automatically at night. (Actually, I kind of like having a nightlight in the bedroom too, until I get used to the place.) I want to leave the basement door closed and the light off when I do laundry, but I need some indication that I am doing laundry. Otherwise, I'll forget and find that the clothes that I want to wear are still wet in the washer. Do any of the great minds on LJ have a suggestion on how to do that? Some thoughts that I had were as follows:

1. Put an Open/Closed Sign on the basement door and change it to Open when I'm doing laundry.
2. Put a small white board on the door, and write "Laundry" when I'm going laundry.
3. Carry a kitchen timer with me when I'm doing laundry.

Also, [livejournal.com profile] ravengirl, I think that you mentioned once that there's a film that you put over windows to keep energy from leaking out. Where did you get it? I think that they sell it on Amazon.com, but I'd rather get it locally if possible. And I just brewed my first pot of hot water for tea with my new electric kettle--thanks for the suggestion! Mmmm, tea!

I want to get a fireplace blanket to put over the fireplace screen when I'm not using the fireplace, but I will need to order it from Amazon.com, and probably have it sent to work, so I'm waiting on that.

Any other energy-saving tips would be great!
