Captain of the Good Ship Intrepid
Jan. 21st, 2014 06:53 pmThe snow last night completely messed up the roads. I had a class to go to in Champaign-Urbana today. This morning, I checked the road conditions online, and it said "100 percent blocked with ice or snow," which wasn't auspicious, but the class wasn't canceled. So I headed off. Typically, the roads in Bloomington were bad. Once I got onto I-74, there were a lot of good patches, but not consistently clear. There was a lot of blowing snow. The roads in Champaign were awful. I got there 20 minutes late. As it turned out, my library director couldn't even get through on I-55 to get to I-74, and had to turn back. If I had tried to go to Lincoln today, I might not have made it.
The way back was better, but I did see a car in a ditch (though who knows how long it had been there). Back in Bloomington, southbound Veterans Parkway (which is the main drag) was completely blocked off, so something major happened there. I'm glad that I'm home, and want to get to sleep earlish to deal with what the morning has in store.
Have I mentioned lately that I hate winter?
Added: Many schools in the area were canceled today. It's 2 degrees F out now too.
