The Election
Nov. 10th, 2016 12:45 amOh, the election. I've had a bad feeling about it for a while, so I started checking the results early. I'd check the results, work for a while, check the results, etc. I had agreed to call my mom after she got home from her Theosophy meeting, so I found her in total shock because she and her friends assumed that Hillary was winning throughout the evening. I was calmer because, I said, it's probably like boiling a frog by turning up the water a little bit at a time. We talked for a while, then my aunt called her, so I went back to work. She called me when I was leaving to go home, and we agreed to share a glass of wine when I got home over the phone. So we did. I almost never drink, so that got me tipsy. I stayed up until the race was almost over, and Hillary told her supporters to go home. Then I logged off my computer, but they called the election after I got into bed.
There have been protests on many college campuses, but not ours. The college president sent out a note telling people to treat each other with respect. The library was extremely quiet today.
I posted the following on Facebook today:
My friends are too mad to hear that yet. I'm mad too, but I think that we need to learn from this experience. And I want to do something. Once I get out of the financial hole that I'm in, I plan to donate to the DNC and ACLU. And I'll look into changing my voter's registration from Independent to Democrat. (I'm sure that the DNC would be happy to tell me how to do that.) I'll also look into volunteering because the midterm elections will be coming up. I'm too mad to look into moving to Canada (although a Canadian friend was encouraging me to move to Toronto, but that was a while ago, and I haven't been in touch with him), so
bandicoot, you don't need to drive to the Midwest to drive me to the airport :)
I am hitting the comfort food though.
ravengirl said that she was going to have
mac and cheese, which sounded good, so I went and got some of the tasty Stouffer's mac and cheese that's about a million calories. (I need to find a recipe to make my own mac and cheese and freeze it.) And some Reese's peanut butter cups. Or as
ravengirl commented, com-fat food. I'd like to do some baking this weekend too.

The Brits warned us to learn from Brexit. We didn't listen.
Michael Moore has been saying for months that he thought that Donald Trump would win. We didn't listen.
Don't get me wrong--I voted for and respect Hillary Clinton--but she probably wasn't the best candidate to go up against Donald Trump. We might need to keep the competition in mind when we choose a candidate. I didn't vote in the primaries because I'm registered as an Independent, so I'm part of the problem.
