Elephants?

Woke up a little after noon. Apparently, there was another power failure after I went to sleep.

I keep forgetting to mention that I read an article saying that people who work lots of overtime are more likely to get a stroke. I rarely work overtime now and usually get 8 hours of sleep. But when I was a technical writer, I worked 60- to 80-hour weeks regularly and often undercut my sleep. I wonder if I "recovered" from that or if I still have screwed up my health. Ah well. Nothing that I can do about it now.

Scrubbed some hairballs that Mimi upchucked onto the floor. (I love not having carpet. It makes life so much easier.) Dumped out the water. Promptly found another hairball. Decided to hang onto the water for the time being.

Thought about how I want a cheese slicer and electric knife to make my own "deli" roast beef and cheese slices, but it occurred to me to put them on a list for Christmas because I never know what to ask for.

Tried to nap, but couldn't fall asleep. I'm more sensitive to the caffeine in my morning coffee now that I'm not drinking much caffeine. I decided that it was silly to lie in bed when I have stuff to do (although I just posted an article to Facebook about the usefulness of doing nothing!) So I got up.

Threw sheets and my summer blanket in the wash. (I like to sleep with something thrown over me.) Started cleaning the kitchen.

Best laid plans: I was going to clean the kitchen for a while and then shower before the cable guy came. Well, the cable guy came two hours early, and I was scuzzy and in my cleaning clothes. Oh well. He probably doesn't care.

The cable guy said whoever fixed the power line destroyed the cable. I hope that I don't have to pay for this. The cable is working now.

Had a bite to eat. Took a nap and this time I was able to sleep.

Took a shower. Took pictures of some items that I want to sell on Facebook Marketplace.

Talked to Mom. She's been feeling really tired, so her doctor is going to try to adjust her meds. She said that she sees me retiring on the East Coast rather than the West Coast. She asked me to see if there was a nature preserve with elephants somewhere in the US. (She loves elephants.) I found an elephant sanctuary in California that allows you to visit the animals. I hope that we can make it happen!

Posted some items on Facebook Marketplace. A storm is brewing. A good time to go to bed.

It looks like the course materials for Statistics are cheaper than the ones for Calculus, so I'm thinking of taking Statistics in the fall instead. I hate to use cost to determine what I study, but I'm recovering from some financial hits. Calculus will still be there in a year from now.

Woke up at 11:30 AM.

There has been a feeding frenzy over some WetJet refills that I posted on Facebook Marketplace. I'm waiting for the first person to respond to get back to me.

I've been drafting LJ posts in Evernote, but now they want me to pay extra to sync across devices. Google Keep seems to be an Evernote clone, so now I'm using that.

I was trying to convince myself to get my butt in gear to finish cleaning the kitchen when Zara conveniently jumped on my lap. Thanks for the excuse to stay put, Zara!

Got my butt in gear without music because I don't want to miss the Facebook Marketplace person instant messaging me. Lots of kitty hair tumbleweeds. Noted that the TV room could use light dusting, sweeping, and mopping. Decided to concentrate on one thing at a time. Finished the kitchen.

Sold my WetJet refills. Put some clothes on the drying rack. Napped for a little while, and then read (finished Outer Order, Inner Calm and started The Four Tendencies) for a little while. It felt luxurious.

Made spaghetti with meatballs (with store-made sauce and meatballs). I kept on rebelling against making it because I thought that it was too much work, but I was able to read while cooking most of it. It was good.

Watched Apollo 11. I'll never live down saying that the TV picture was bad during the moon landing. (I was 6 years old and wasn't grasping the historical significance.) But if you wait for 50 years, you can get a good picture! I was riveted by the film even though I knew how it ended.

Zara is running up and down the hall now that I fed them. I think that it's time to go to bed and read (assuming Zara lets me be, but she has largely ceded the bedroom to Mimi).
