Parlor Palm
Aug. 18th, 2024 02:16 amI woke up at 5:30 AM, which is way too early to get up on a weekend, but okay. I’ll go back to sleep after breakfast. I discovered that I didn’t feed the girls last night. Zara was right. I suck as a cat mom.
It’s wet this morning. I don’t know if I’ll be able to do some mowing today.
Went back to sleep and woke up at 10 AM. That’s better. Zara is being extra snuggly.
I had been working on several different places in the house, but settled on working on my bedroom now. I’d like to get one room done. Well, I am also working on the bathroom/laundry room because I have clothes piled up there and I’m putting them into the new dresser. One question is where did the rug for the room go? I don’t remember seeing it in storage. I’ll specifically look for it when I go up to get Mom’s car though. I also want to get a sunburst mirror for over the bed.
Zara has decided that I have to feed her whenever I’m in the kitchen. Uh, Zara, it doesn’t work that way.
Project Putting Clothes Away is working. I had a pair of clean black jeans, and I wanted a black t-shirt to go with it. So I went to my t-shirt file—I have organizers in the drawer that are kind of like an accordion file, and I put them in color order—and pulled out my black #lahainastrong t-shirt with the banyan tree.
I put a load of sheets in the washer. I debated washing the duvet cover because it’s such a royal pain in the ass to get it around the comforter, but finally decided to throw it in.
I’m wondering where to store sheets. I had hoped to have a drawer in the new dresser for them, but they might get bumped out by clothes. I’ll put them in there for now. I’m wondering if I should get rid of the set of flannel sheets that I have. I doubt that I’ll use them, so out they should go.
I made a rule that if I sit at the kitchen table, I have to work on the backlog of mail that piled up on the table. I found my new Target card and activated it. In the envelope, I found a coupon for $50 off a purchase over $50. That will help when I get the Apple Watch. Oh crud, it says “excludes Apple products”. Okay, I’ll get bookcases for the upstairs.
The sun seems to be coming out. Maybe it’ll dry the grass.
I saved ONE black t-shirt and chucked the rest straight into a donation bag along with some shorts that I used to sleep in before I upgraded to actual summer pajamas. I hung up exercise clothes in the bathroom to make them easy to grab.
The sheets are dry. I took a shower. Now I wanted to wash towels and also throw my Kizik shoes in there with them, but I had to look around to find my super-comfortable Skechers.
Well, hmm. Someone on a local plant group said that plants were 50% off at a grocery store in Champaign, and it looks like they have a parlor palm, which I’d like. So I guess that I’ll throw myself together and go out.
I went to the grocery store and became the proud owner of a parlor palm at 50% off. I’ve wanted one for a while. On the way back, I decided to have a “cheat meal” and stopped at a gyros place that I had passed. The counter person was slightly confused; the ambience of the place is nonexistent, but the food is good. They also have hot dogs and Italian beef sandwiches. The bathroom was gross.
Got the plant home and watered it because it was bone dry. Moved the “home altar” table to where I want to put a cabinet for my gardening stuff. It’ll do for now, and the palm and money tree will have light from the entire window.
I was trying to put clean sheets on the bed. Zara was crouched in a corner of the bed, refusing to move so that I could get the fitted sheet on the bed and was hissing at me. She finally decided that I might feed them and left for the kitchen. Everything is an adventure with cats.
Someone on my plant group was giving away spider plants, which I’d like for the kitchen, so I drove by but didn’t see them. I’ll have to buy some. I found a set of two spider plants at Walmart for around $12, which isn’t bad. They’re tiny but will grow.
Took a nap. Shut my alarm off and slept for three more hours. Fed the cats. I’m feeling hungry, so I’ll have a little yogurt. It’s way too late to study Italian, so I’ll go back to bed.
