Car damage

I'm back to thinking that the scratches on the car were deliberate. The vertical scratches aren't perfectly aligned after all. They're in a weird spot too; under the handle on the door.

And I think that they might have happened at work. A few years ago, there was some problems with people coming onto the property and damaging cars. (I suspect that it was the kids who drag race in front of the building.) There were drag racers out front Friday night, when I think that the damage might have happened. It would be easy for someone to walk onto the property. And it would be easier for someone to do this in a quiet parking lot rather than in the very busy parking lot of a strip mall (where I discovered it).

I don't want this to happen again, so I'm currently hiding the car out back when I'm at the lab after hours.

That's terrible. Especially since your car is new. I drive a 2000 model VW Passat wagon, and when it was brand new I would check both sides for dents or scratches after leaving it parked anywhere. Yes, I was a little obsessive.

I don't blame you for suspecting vandalism. Park safely.

Vertical scratches under the door handle sound more like an inquisitive animal to me - a dog, for example. Or a mountain lion.

Touch up paint

You can go to the dealer and get a small bottle of touch up paint--it comes in a little nail polish bottle complete with brush. A few dabs should take care of the scratches.

Thanks. I'm trying to be more aware of where I park.

They're fairly wide scratches and almost the same length. They're tough to describe; if I get a few minutes, I'll take a picture of them. Anyway, I don't think that it was an animal.

Hmm, the scratches are fairly wide, so I'm not sure if it would work. Thanks for the suggestion though.

The first thing that I thought of when I first saw the scratches was hieroglyphics.
