I've been having a problem with Random peeing in weird places since my last Fresno trip. At first, I thought it was because he didn't like the new Litter Robot, which wasn't working correctly. However, when I realized that he had peed on the blanket that I throw over the loveseat, alarm bells went off because that's really close to their food dishes and is where they sleep, and cats ordinarily don't pee close to their food or nest. Then he peed on and in my gym bag, and I got really mad. I wondered if he was going senile.

I'm still wondering. Usually when I put him in the carrier to go to the vet, he makes it very clear that he's mad at me. Not yesterday--he seemed calm, curious, and friendly when he was in the carrier. (Nima and Harlee seemed more upset that he was in a box.) When we arrived and were waiting in the room, I let him smell my hand to know that it was me, and he started kneading like a kitten. It broke my heart.

The vet commented that he smells like urine, and I noticed that he does when she picked him up. She's running tests and will get back to me. (Worthy thought: poor not-so-little guy. Something must be really wrong for him to lie in urine. Unworthy thought: why is this happening now when I'm short on cash? I didn't expect the vet bill to be $300+ (and counting, probably). On the other hand, I did get pet insurance for this exact reason, and I think that I'll put in a claim. I should also make an appointment with a groomer to have him washed, but don't want to do so until we know what's wrong.) For a moment, I wondered if he was going blind and was using urine to help him navigate, but I just threw a wad of paper near him, and he seemed to be tracking it.

The Litter Robot has been replaced with one that works. One of them is using it, but I'm not sure who.

We'll see what happens. He's only eleven; that seems a little young for him to be seriously ill.

In a change of subject, my health is mostly stable and I've been mostly able to get up in the morning. (Note to self: don't listen to music right before you go sleep like you did last night!) If my health stays stable today, I'm going to start the ball rolling to go back to work.

Might be diabetes too. My kitty did that too - urinating frequently and then basically everywhere - he even broke a LitterMaid. He was diagnosed with diabetes when I took him in, and it's apparently a common disease in elderly cats.

That's one of the things that the vet is testing for.
