The technical writing position that I still had hope about didn't pan out. So I have no irons in the fire right now. I've also been running around applying for part-time jobs with no luck so far. Nobody loves me; everybody hates me; I'm going out and eating worms. Not.

I'm trying to jump-start myself. I haven't been using my time well, so I'm trying to improve. I'm trying to exercise every day. I've been trying to review math for the GREs (for the Master of Library Science degree) every day. I've set a goal to be ready for the GREs by the end of the year.

I've also been trying to improve my technical skills. Right now, I'm learning about Cascading Style Sheets. I also want to learn Javascript and XML. (I already have a little background in XML, so that'll help.) I've carried a technical writing Web site in my head for years now. I want to create a good site to show off my skills, and include the URL on my resume. I'm also debating whether to study Java or UNIX. Both will help me to find technical writing jobs. The UNIX classes require money, so I'd need to ask my dad if he'd be willing to help me out.

And, of course, I need to look for a tech writing job and a part-time job. I also need to get back to organizing my place.

It should be possible to do all that if I don't waste time. The problem with unstructured time is that it's very easy to waste.

Have you asked for feedback about your declines? It might help to determine where you need to shore up your resume.

In a few cases, I've asked for feedback. The problem isn't with my resume because I'm getting interviews. The problem is with the interviews. Apparently I'm not selling myself enough (whatever that means).

From my experience, employers are looking for gung-ho, upbeat and positive people to add to their organizations. I haven't got a clue how you purport yourself in your interviews but, that's the only advice I can give.
