Anyone know how strong it was? My guess is 5.5. It seemed to go on for an awfully long time. The kitties are totally freaked. There was no damage; just a few things fell off of tables.

Edit: Not a bad guess--it was 5.6, centered east of Milpitas.

Edit 2: I was about to take a shower too when the quake hit. That would've been bad.

My "measurement" is if the earthquake is strong enough to be scary (I dove for the doorway) and weak enough not to cause damage, then it's around 5.5.

I was guessing about the same (between 5 & 6) at the time. When it happened, I was waiting for the elevator at work, just heading home, and the elevator arrived in the middle of the excitement as I was braced against a support pillar across the hall. I decided not to get in the elevator just then. :-) The building swayed alarmingly and made creaky noises for 30 seconds or so after the main event ended, which I suppose is not surprising for something built in the 40's.
