Discombobulated
Nov. 27th, 2007 11:34 pmMy mom was here for the last ten days. She arrived as planned. (Well, she always is the last one off of the plane. This time, though, she arrived so far after the other people from the plane that I joked that she must of helped them vacuum the plane.)
Having another person around kind of threw me off my normal rhythm. It was strange to have to deal with another person's rhythms, contention for the bathroom and such. I found myself forgetting to do things like take my morning medications. Don't get me wrong; I really enjoyed having her around, but still it was weird.
We had fun doing the eating tour of South San Jose -;) I'm afraid to look at the scale.
My mom worked magic on my kitchen. I had stuff piled on counters, etc. and it overwhelmed me to even start on the mess. Mom turned it into a kitchen that looks like, well, a kitchen--clean with space on the counters. Now I'm mulling over really cooking (although I have to finish leftovers first). She also helped me assemble a lateral filing cabinet that looks really nice.
The cats enjoyed having my mom around too. They liked to curl up on my mom's blankets on the sofa in the home office. Mom gave them catnip for Christmas, which was a big hit. Nima kept tugging on the ribbon on one of the Christmas packages, and the package fell down, and she went "OMG the package is following me!" and ran, and we broke up laughing. Mom also gave the kitties the cat sitter videos, but we haven't tried them yet.
I dropped Mom off at the airport today. I've had sort of a reverse discombobulation in that I was wandering around unsure what I should do without her. Then I made a to-do list and started on it. I've started to pick up my job search again. (Oh, I didn't get the mainframe job. They sent me a nice e-mail saying that I was a very strong candidate, but people at the company knew the other candidate, who had a lot of experience.) Mom graciously offered to pay for some UNIX classes and Java books, so I need to get started on them.
