An etiquette question about academia: I'm sending a cover letter to the head of an academic library, who is also a professor. Should I address him as "Professor Duggan," or is that not correct given that I don't go to his university? Thanks.

I worked at NU for years, School of Communication. It is correct to use "Professor" because that is his title. You're good to go!

The only downside that I see to living in New Orleans is that the rents are expensive. I hope that the salaries are higher too to compensate.

Unless you've been instructed otherwise either by him or his staff, "Professor" is correct.
