Winnipeg?!?

The plot thickens....I applied for a job in a suburb of Columbus, OH, and the recruiter called me right away, but the job is a temporary position for 3 - 9 months, which won't work. Oh well. However, the recruiter said that she is going to be staffing a permanent position in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, so I asked her to make me a candidate for that position. I don't know anything about Winnipeg....

Well, I just did some research on Winnipeg. I could bring the cats into the country if they have a rabies certificate. Housing is kind of pricey, so I'd need a good salary. Summers sound nice (70s) but winter is beastly (around zero) and very snowy. However, many apartments pay for heat. I don't know how managing my health problems would work; there might be a gap between moving and getting health care. (Must investigate further.) Canada wants a detailed list of anything that I would bring into the country if I moved there, which would be a major pain. (I would like some relocation funds too.) I couldn't find information about getting a driver's license, but I think that there's a way to get an international driver's license?? It would take 18-20 hours of driving time to get there. That's about it for a half-hour of research.

I got sent there on business once during the summer. We went to the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. Didn't get to wander around much, though. One of my graduate student friends was from Winnipeg. He spoke with a Manitoba Monotone (Uoot and aboot the hoose, eh?) ;)

I'm thinking now if I did get the job in Winnipeg, I'd probably leave most of my stuff in storage in Detroit.
