Does anyone have experience with dictation software? I"m considering buying Dragon Naturally Speaking Home. I keep a professional blog (well, mostly I don't update the professional blag, and I should update it), and I think that dictation software would help.

I use Dragon for work when my RSI got to bad to keep up with the masses of tickets and chats I do on a daily basis. I am extremely happy with it. It takes patience and a lot of tweaking so that it learns all of the idiosyncratic vocab you use but once it's well trained, it is surprisingly fast and easy to use. I no longer slow my speech down for it and it doesn't seem to struggle. When writing papers for my college classes, I rarely have to correct anything.

Disclaimer: this comment was written with Dragon and I only made two minor corrections because I'm quite tired and my speech isn't that great right now…

I have Dragon NS 7. I have found that the effectiveness varies by machine and by microphone. If you want to use it seriously without a lot of touch up, invest in a good noise cancelling mic and make sure you run it on a fairly robust machine. As has been mentioned, the more time you spend training it, the better it gets.
