I Feel Like Nanook of the North

This is how it looks outside my front window. What the picture doesn't capture is the blowing snow. It's not whiteout conditions, but the visibility isn't great. We haven't gotten the six to eight inches of snow--my guess is four to five inches--but it's still snowing. The temperature is dropping, and is now 12 degrees F.

I foresee a problem in that they're going to need to snowplow tonight, but the temperature is going to drop to -20, so they're not going to want to send people out.

 

The good news, at least for me, is that Lincoln canceled work tomorrow. Kudos to them for canceling early instead of waiting until we're almost out the door. So I effectively get another day of vacation. And I sure as heck am not going anywhere.

So much for my snow estimates. Weather.com says that we got eight inches of snow. That explains why someone was trying to get out of the parking lot and kept on getting stuck with the car's wheels spinning. Someone kept jumping out of the car, shoveling snow, and pushing the car. They eventually did make it out of the parking lot, to my amazement. I thought that they were going to have to leave the car in the middle of the parking lot.

Now Weather.com says 9.5 inches of snow and counting. There are some impressive snow drifts. The wheels on a VW bug are completely covered. There a huge snowdrift in the empty parking spot next to mine, and I wonder how they'll be able to park their car.

I have seen any snowplows out lately. They're probably waiting until the storm blows out, but the temperature keeps dropping....
