Dog people--I'm trying to figure out "startup costs" for getting a dog for the first time (not counting adoption fees, but counting dishes, beds, harness, car restraint, etc.). Is $200 about right? More?
good question. Depends if the dog needs to be spade/neutered, if you have to pay for shots. Does it need groomed and it's nails clipped? Is it house trained? It depends on if you're going to let the dog sleep with you or, do you need a kennel? Or, a dog bed? Do you need a license for the dog? A collar, some chew toys, a couple of bowls - one for a constant water supply and one for food. Then, the food -- I use a combination of kibble and wet. I also get Frida some dentastix to clean her teeth, and if you don't have a supply of bags for poop pick up, then some of those.
The dog is spayed and has her shots. She would need periodic grooming--thanks for mentioning that. I'd like to have her sleep with me, but that would depend on how well she and Zara get along, so I'd need a dog bed and probably a kennel. Not sure about the license--thanks for mentioning that.I'd need the rest of the stuff that you mentioned.
