The Art of Travel
Jun. 30th, 2016 01:10 amI've been bummed about all the chaos in Britain over Brexit, and also the bombing at the airport in Istanbul. I feel like the world is shrinking, and not in a good way. I went to England when I was 17, and have always wanted to go back. Istanbul is on my "bucket list".
However, it's a good time to visit Britain while the exchange rate is favorable. For a long time, I've wanted to take a trip to London (I've been there, briefly) and Dublin (have never been there). So I planned a trip online (although I want to play with various options), and could probably save up enough to afford a trip next March, during Spring Break. (It's probably just as well that we can't go now. I have a bunch of Brits on my Facebook friends list, and they have been bashing each other in a very nasty way. Presumably that would die down by March.) I haven't talked to my mom yet about it, but another reason why I want to take the trip sooner rather than later is because I want to go with my mom. She's in reasonably good health now, although she's been having some health problems, but none that would stop her taking a trip, but who knows what the future might hold.
As for Istanbul, that's off my list until things settle down there. Going to London or Paris is one thing--although they've had attacks, the odds are still in your favor--but Istanbul has had multiple attacks this year. And the terrorists are targeting tourist areas. That concerns me.
In other exciting news, I've decluttered the kitchen enough to see the top of my freezer. I retrieved some crab cakes from it and had them for dinner. Mimi thinks that it's unfair that I didn't share them with her. (Mimi also tried to bite the buttons off of my shirt yesterday. She is such a goofball!)
A day and a half left until my vacation!
