Looking at bike locks because I want to retrieve my bike out of storage and start practicing riding. (If I don't go to Detroit over Memorial Day weekend, that would be a good time to start.) I'll need to keep it outside, but there is a fence to which I could lock it. Found a lock on Amazon that was highly rated and not too expensive.

There are a gazillion rabbits in the neighborhood, which might not bode well for my plants. I looked at nets, but want to give the plants time to get settled and root before I put them under a net. We'll see how this goes.

Mimi is settled on my lap while I look at my phone. Now my leg is asleep. Mimi is a BIG kitty.

I have two items on my grocery list. First, I forgot one item. Then I remembered the first item, but forgot the other item. Then I remembered both items, and hastily wrote them down. Sheesh.

I tried giving Harlee her subcutaneous fluids (yes, I haven't done it before. I suck), but she didn't seem to be getting any fluids. Then the needle came out. After Harlee left, I found a clip that was keeping it closed. Now I know what to do, so I can do better next time.

Zara thinks that the area that I set up to do Harlee's fluids (on top of the freezer) is a great kitty bed. I put a towel on top to keep Harlee comfortable. Zara wants to play with the tubing, though, so I need to go rescue it.

Washed the kitchen floor before work.

Mimi likes rubber bands. If there's one in the same room as her, she'll find it. I have a rubber band around their dry food bag, and she loves to snap it. I finally had to put the food on the top shelf, but sometimes I forget to put it up there.

Quiet morning. Mimi is on my lap. Zara is snoozing on the shelves near the window. I assume that Harlee is asleep, but haven't checked on her yet. No, she was daydreaming on her bed in the living room window. Took care of the kitty inputs and outputs. Wrote an e-mail to my dad that got eaten by the computer.

I've started turning off the power strip to the TV, DVD/VCR player, cable modem, and router while I'm at work to decrease the "vampire" energy drain.

It's looking like I can pull off the trip to visit Mom at the end of the month. I need to double check with my boss though because he's probably forgotten about it.

We're running into snags in our project at work; I'm fielding e-mails from my boss today.

Took a nap and had some lunch. I had a bad case of  "I don't want to do anything," but I threw myself together to run errands.

Bought cat food, kitty litter, and some herb plants (basil, dill, Italian parsley, and mint) and a tomato plant. Planted the herbs and tomato. Now I'm sitting for a few minutes, and then I'll get cracking on cleaning.

Chill!

Has anyone used reflective window curtain panels? Are they worth it? Do they work well? Anything that keeps the place cool during the summer and warm during the winter sounds like a good plan. Blackout curtains might work too, but they are more expensive. I've gotten hooked on ceiling fans. They make the place seem more pleasant. The cats like them too. I also looked at dehumidifiers (we run them at the library), but there are mixed reviews on whether they actually save energy.

Had problems getting up this morning. I don't know why because I had a long nap last night.

A moment of Kitty Drama: I filled a bowl with dry food, and Mimi was eating it. Harlee came over, and she was clearly hungry. Mimi moved her head to chew, and Harlee tried to get into the dish. Mimi "acked" at her, but then she left to give Harlee access to the bowl. After all, Harlee is the Queen. I'm glad that she's eating.

I've been chatting with my dad about Hawaii via e-mail. It's gotten too built up for his tastes. I definitely want to plan a trip to Hawaii island (Big Island) when I can pull it off. It's almost reasonable price-wise.

There's also some good condo (real estate) deals in a 55+ community in Lihue (Kauai island in Hawaii). Everywhere but Maui.

Finally got my weary butt into work. I'm trying to convince myself to leave my fan to go "weed" books. I finally did.

I was starving, so I went to dinner early. That's the nice thing about working when the library is closed; I can do what I want within reason. I also got my recycling in the bin during dinner and washed some dishes. More Kitty Drama: Mimi was hissing at Harlee because Harlee was on the same futon as her. Oh, take a chill pill, Mimi! Coexist, like the bumper sticker!

Someone had an apple in the refrigerator at work, and I had the impulse to eat it. I figured that an impulse to eat healthy food shouldn't be ignored, so I went to Walmart and bought apples. I looked for knee socks too--I usually buy them at Meijer's in Springfield or Bloomington so that they all match, but it's a drive--but Walmart didn't have any. Weird. I might try Amazon. I want more socks because I wash clothes more often on partial loads because I run out of socks. I have no idea where they go.

Slept for around 12 hours. Must have needed it.

Zara is looking out the window, and twitching when a bird flies by. Harlee is walking around complaining. She's doing well and eating and drinking.

Reading about the eruption of the volcano in Hawaii. I've been to Volcanoes National Park. I'm wondering why anyone would live near there. Remembering my trip there. My dad and I were hiking in a dormant volcano, and I tripped and fell. Solid lava is like glass, so I really ripped up my leg. My dad was proud of me because I finished the hike. Then the ranger bandaged up my leg. I think that I was around 10 at the time?

Took a nap. Made a grocery list. Made and ate pancakes. I'm getting better at making them.

Dyed my hair. I really need a haircut also, but at least, my hair is all one color now.

Ran errands. Bought lots of food. Ate some french-bread pizza that was garlic and three-cheese, and oh, was it good. I only allow myself to get french-bread pizza when I go to Aldi's for a major shopping trip because I'd live on french-bread pizza. However, I'm tempted to go back tomorrow to see if they have more of the garlic ones.

Talked to Mom. She's tired, but really wants to get the energy to work on the garden. My aunt wants my mom to come to Chicago for when my aunt has surgery, but Mom doesn't feel up to it. My aunt had her first week of radiation, and it went okay.

Need to go to sleep soon because I need to be at the college for Commencement at 11:45 AM.

Next week, we start working 7 hours a day instead of 8 hours for the summer. Looking forward to it.

Got a lot of sleep. I left the ceiling fans on in the living room ("Harlee's room") and bedroom. Woke up freezing, and needed to grab my comforter. It's cooler today.

Zara was rubbing against the back of my head while I was eating. Aww.

Made a phone call, and because this is my late day, I have time to go back to sleep for a while.

Quiet, rainy day. Hardly any students.

Apparently I left the ceiling fan on in the living room. But the air moving around felt nice, and Harlee was asleep, so I left it on. I really need to decrease my utility bill though.

My friend and I were going to go out to eat this weekend, but she canceled due to lack of funds. I'm mulling over going by myself after graduation on Saturday; the place has gyros; I haven't had any for a while;  I'm jonesing for one.

Couldn't stop yawning tonight. Plan to go to sleep early again. It's supposed to be even cooler tomorrow.

So. Tired.

Last night, I turned off my light to go to sleep. Then I heard Kitty Drama. I finally got up to see what was going on. Not sure, but I saw Zara trotting away. Harlee was eating dry food, and then came over for snuggles. Mimi came in, saw Harlee, and went away. Earlier, Zara came in and saw Mimi, and went away. And I'm supposed to sleep in the middle of Kitty Grand Central Station :)  It took me a while to fall asleep.

This morning, Harlee let her displeasure be known that I was not petting her during my teleconference call, but the group leader thought that it was funny.

I forgot to mention that I picked up a Hawaiian-patterned shirt, except that it's a scoop neck, at Wal-Mart last night. It came with a black gauze shirt that you tie over it. It should be cool, anyway. Which is good because it's freaking 86 degrees F.....It has been cool to wear. I turned on the A/C for Harlee, who probably can't regulate her temperature because she's old. She's turned into a very expensive kitty, but I suppose that we all get more expensive as we get older.

The college president was asking for people to attend a music clinic at our performing arts center. I volunteered to represent the library because music. I was worried about falling asleep though because I'm really tired. But the clinic was for percussion (drums, etc.) That kept me awake! The guy running the clinic was fantastic. I really enjoyed it.

Left work early because I was at the teleconference this morning, it was quiet this evening, and I'm TIRED.  Must. Sleep. Soon.

Well, I'm a bad mommy and didn't get up early enough to give Harlee her fluids, although she is drinking water. I'll try tomorrow. She is being vocal, which is reassuring. I'm glad that I got the extra sleep though. I feel like I could sleep for a year.

Harlee is really chowing down. She's been roaming around a lot and acting normal. Awesome. She chowed down on the dry food and refused her wet food. Okay, Harlee. Then she ate Zara's leftover food.  Zara is eating the dry food. Normal chaos in my household. :)

Hot, hot, hot (81F). And I wore an open cardigan sweater. Ugh. Need to dig out short-sleeved stuff. I hate that it goes from cold to hot without much transition.

Speaking of summer, I'm seriously thinking of skipping summer school at Heartland this year. I have other stuff to do that will pay off later. And I'm tired.

I can't stop yawning (except I did as it got later. Figures.) Need to go to bed soon because I have a teleconference in the morning.

Overslept a little, but got up and called the vet. The receptionist said that they got the fax from the emergency vet, and what do you want us to do? Um, treat my cat? I got an appointment for 3:30.

Harlee decided that she was hungry, and she ate some dry food! I'm going to try her on her normal wet food later.

She ate some of the wet food. And she's walking around complaining, which is music to my ears. I still think that the vet should look at her though.

The vet thought that Harlee was doing well. She wants me to give Harlee subcutaneous fluids twice a week. She also gave me some meds for Harlee. She thought that the antibiotics that the emergency vet gave her should take care of the pancreatitis.

I'm going to sleep well tonight! I'm really tired.

I fed the girls when I got home from work. Harlee ate some of her food, but then she ate some of Mimi's leftovers. They aren't good for her due to her sensitivity to chicken, but I'm glad to see her eating anything. Mimi promptly ate some of Zara's leftovers.

As for me, I made some grilled cheese and tomato soup. My cheddar slices were growing a science experiment (yes, I need to clean out the refrigerator), but I had some mozzarella that was still good. Quick, cheap, and tasty.

I need to go to sleep soon and get up early to give Harlee her subcutaneous fluids. She is not one to suffer in silence, so I need to do it during the day.

I know that it's a little morbid, and jumping the gun, but I want my ashes to be buried along with my cats. I found a place in the Northern suburbs of Chicago that will do that. I should check it out and, when I can scrape together the money, buy a plot.

Woke up at 7:30 AM, and couldn't fall back asleep. Checked on Harlee, and she's doing well. She was rubbing against me and purring. I saw her drinking water later, and heated up some baby food and she ate it with gusto. I gave her a little more, but I didn't want her to throw up, so I told her that I'd give her some more later.

Napped a little. Fed Zara and Mimi. Gave Harlee some water, and she drank some. Gave Harlee more baby food, and she ate part of it.

Debating whether to dye my hair, but arguably, homework is more important. Plus, I need to eat lunch before I go to work.

I did do homework, but I'm not finished. I think that I'll go to bed after I eat dinner after work, so that I can call the vet early. I'll finish up my lab after I get up.

Harlee followed me around a bit earlier. I'm feeling comfortable leaving her alone at home. Not that I have much choice because today is the big day before Finals Week bash. I'll check on her and feed her on my dinner break.

Harlee and I have been home for a while. The subcutaneous fluids seem to have helped her. She even kneaded the blanket a little when I let her out of the carrier. Right now, she's completely zonked out. I'm going to call the vet on Monday morning and we'll go from there.

Comment from the last post: she has acute pancreatitis on top of kidney disease, which doesn't look good. The vet said that it would be hard to treat her for both conditions.

I talked to my mom for a while. Then I made pancakes. I think that I'll just go to bed early and get up early to get some stuff done.

Woke up at 11.

Mimi just threw up. I don't know what's going on with the cats.

I tried giving Harlee some food that she loves, and she ate a little of it, but that's it. Got to get her to the vet.

Tried to sleep, but couldn't shut my mind off. Too full of stress hormones. Gave Harlee tuna, and she wouldn't eat it. Gave her some turkey baby food, and she ate a tiny bit of  it.

Talked to Mom. I'm going to eat quickly and throw myself together and take Harlee to the emergency vet in Springfield. I don't think that she'll make it to next week.

Emergency vet said to bring her in. I need to get some gas, and then I'll take her to Springfield.

Slept until 10 AM. Did kitty and Adrie maintenance. One of the cats threw up, and I'm concerned because it's foamy and not a hairball, but I'm not sure who threw up. They all seem fine. I'll keep an eye on them.

Took a nap (love weekends!) Made pancakes. Had stomach cramps, so I lay back down for a while. Showered and ran some errands. Discovered that I have some cookies left. I have a taste for a hamburger, but they're frozen and would take forever to cook. Maybe tomorrow.

Talked to Mom. She's mostly over her pneumonia, but still is very tired. She wants to get some energy to do stuff in the garden. My aunt is having her first radiation treatment on Monday. She needs to be there at the crack of dawn too.

I'm a little worried about Harlee. She seems listless and isn't eating her food, although she might have eaten some dry food. Zara refused to eat too, but I know that she did eat some dry food before dinner.

On the Guardian, I read an excerpt of a book about Silicon Valley called Live Work Work Work Die. I think that I'm getting PTSD just reading it. I did get a splitting headache, so I think that I'm going to bed soon.
days_unfolding: (Default)
I rebooted the cable modem again, and it's been working. Fingers crossed that it will continue to work.

Woke up at 10 AM.  Went back to sleep, and woke up at 1:30. Did kitty maintenance and Adrie maintenance. Zara has the zoomies and is using me as a springboard. Harlee is complaining. A peaceful morning at home :)

Lay down for a while after I took my meds, but couldn't sleep. Got up and made pancakes and started laundry.

Watched an episode of The Crown. It was the episode where Elizabeth's father died, and she ascends to the throne. Watching it start to finish (it started in the middle the last time that I watched it) was very intense and moving. If I get stuff done, I might watch another episode tonight.

Scrubbed litter boxes. Cleaned the kitchen. Made Hamburger Helper stroganoff with ground turkey. Eh. It's okay, but I don't think that I'll buy it again.

Watched another episode of The Crown. It also was good.

Homework awaits.

Woke up and thought that it was 10:30. Was looking at stuff on my phone, and wait a minute, it's 9:30! Too early to get up! Miss Kissy Face (Mimi) jumped on my lap, and I gave her some scritches. Then I went back to bed. Slept until 1. Fed the hungry hordes and drank my coffee.

Lay down for a short nap after breakfast. God, I love weekends. Couldn't fall asleep though, so I got up.

We had a breakthrough on the bed last night. Mimi was lounging by my head, and Harlee came and lay down on me near Mimi. And Mimi didn't "ack" at Harlee. Instead, she rolled over and showed me her big belly. Now if only Mimi could get along with Zara, we'd be one happy family.

Tried tightening the cable to the Internet modem, but that didn't help. Need to call Comcast. I tried plugging the modem into the cable in the living room, and that worked. So something's wrong with the cable in the bedroom. Need to get it fixed, but meanwhile, I have Internet access. No, now it's not working from the other cable too. Drat.

Another movie is in at the library (La La Land), so I'm going to go throw myself together and pick it up. Need to go to the store to pick up a few things too. Back and eating lunch. I was going to set up the DVD player and watch a movie, but I'm wondering if I should run into work and download some videos for my class. I suppose that I could go in late and freak out Security.

Watched Victoria and Abdul. The only problem is that the movie was played in black and white, not color. I don't know what's wrong.
days_unfolding: (Default)
The front desk worker is out again today, so I scrapped my "late day" (I'll come in late on Sunday) and scrambled to come in. Covered my boss's lunch. Did a couple of things, and I'm back at the front desk again.

Mimi and Zara were squabbling this morning. I told them sternly that I didn't want any Kitty Drama and broke it up. It amazes me that they don't fight when they're both on my, er, our, bed at night. Mimi stays at my head, and Zara stays at my feet. Maybe they're worried about what I'd do if they woke me up squabbling. Or maybe they think that they're kittens snuggling up to Mama Cat. When Harlee joins us, Mimi and Zara seem to think that it's a little crowded and either leave (Zara) or "ack" at Harlee (Mimi). Harlee loftily ignores them and lies halfway between them on top of me.

I'm tired. I picked up the movie that I checked out of the library, and am looking forward to sleeping in and watching the movie. I hope that I can fix my Internet access; I think that Harlee knocked the cable loose because she climbs over the router and cable modem rather than walking around. (Sigh.) If I can fix the Internet access, I want to watch some episodes of The Crown as well. And do homework and clean. I also found my gift card for the coffee shop, so I might hole up in there, work on homework, and nurse a chai.

I've requested more movies from the library. It's a great deal! I also want to rent some movies from Redbox, although I could wait until they are available from the library. One newish movie (Darkest Hour) is now available from the library, so I ordered it.
days_unfolding: (Default)
Up at 9:30. Feeling more well-rested.

Zara has stopped sleeping on the bed with me. Maybe because it's warmer? Mimi still is sleeping with me.

Fed myself and the girls, who have calmed down since yesterday.

Dark, gloomy, and slightly rainy again. Could really use some sunshine.

Lying down while my meds kick in. Harlee came over for some pets and snuggles. Now Mimi has come over here.

Got up and made coffee and lunch. Still feeling a little lethargic. I don't go into work until 6 because I had the class on Friday. Trying to get up the energy to clean the kitchen. Reminded myself that the Unf*ck Yourself book said to take action even if you don't feel like it.

Started cleaning the kitchen. Opened the strange box that showed up on my doorstep, and it turned out to be my octopus adoption kit. Put the stuffed animal octopus on the stereo. Do octopuses like music? Cleaned the kitchen except for scrubbing the floor. (Ran out of time.)

Went into work for my half-day.

Well, hell. My landlord is coming into my unit on Tuesday, and the place isn't in any shape to be seen, so I told my boss that I needed to take an impromptu day off (not saying why).  I'll need to shut Harlee in the bathroom.

Zara is being manic and has stood with her front paws on my shoulders, pawing my shoulders and hair. Settle down, Z.

days_unfolding: (Default)
Had problems getting up. Finally Zara perched on my shoulder, and that got me up. Thanks, Zara. Feeling a little under the weather. Felt hot and cold on and off during the day.

Oh joy.  They're predicting thunderstorms when I'll be driving back from Chicago on Friday.

The Chronicle of Higher Education has an inactive forum about things people do to save money, and I'm taking electronic notes. I need to learn how to change my car's oil. Not only is it cheaper, but I'd save the drive to the car dealer in Bloomington (30 miles away). (I have a free coupon for the oil change, but adding in the trip there and back, it still costs a fair amount.) I suppose that I could get it changed locally though. I originally had to get it changed at the dealer for the warranty, but that's expired.

Boy, am I hitting pay dirt. Lots of discussion about buying glasses online. I get a free pair of glasses at the optician through insurance (although I like Transitions lenses, which cost extra), but I'd like to get a spare pair to keep in the car. Just found out about a free spending tracker. The hits keep coming....I just checked clothesline poles, and they're cheap. I might be able to set one up on the side of the house. It'll be small, but someone suggested putting only things that take a long time to dry on the clothesline (i.e. towels and jeans).

I also really need to relearn how to ride a bike and bike to work.

I filled up my tires before the trip to Chicago tomorrow. Go me. And I will get the cat litter out of the car before I leave! I also got some bagels for breakfasts. I bought trial sized shampoo, etc., but I've got to quit doing that. It is really expensive. What I need to do is fill up bottles with my normal shower supplies so that I have it ready for the next trip. Planning how to save money is kind of fun in a way.

I'm going to pack tomorrow morning. I need to install Python on my netbook tonight.

Harlee was complaining loudly, and I went over and told her that she's fine; she ate, and I sat with her earlier. I swear that she gave me a dirty look ;)

MEOW!!!

Apr. 6th, 2018 10:52 pm
days_unfolding: (Default)
I decided to lie down for a nap after eating. I was lying down with Zara at my feet and Mimi at my head, when Harlee was complaining loudly in the living room. I told her to come into the bedroom. Eventually she did, and I petted her. Then she left, went back into the living room and complained again. I told her to come into the bedroom, She did for a little while, then left, and started meowing again. She probably was going, "Sheesh. How clear do I have to be that I want you to come sit with me in the living room?" Then I must have fallen asleep because the next thing that I knew, my mom was calling for our weekly chat.

Mom's tests at the doctor are good, but she's still tired. She went to Aldi's today and bought a bunch of tasty treats that they don't have at my Aldi's. She's looking forward to my visiting her in May.

Then Harlee started meowing again, and Mom hastily got off of the phone so that I could sit with Harlee.

I've fed the hordes. I think that I'm going to eat a little, read a little, and then crash.

Today was errand day. I wore a jacket instead of a coat because my coat was in the wash. The jacket itself was pretty warm, but the wind was fierce. It felt a lot colder than it was (37F). During my errands, a woman was talking to me about how cold it was, and that they were predicting snow this weekend. Ugh.

Had a permanent crown put in at the dentist, got some cash for my Chicago trip next week, did grocery shopping, and stopped by AT&T, where they told me to call customer service. Bah.

Harlee is NOT pleased that I was gone.

Food, then cleaning.

John Frieda seems to be discontinuing my hair color. This is the second time that's happened. I am not happy (although I did order two from eBay).

I found two library books that were missing. Hallelujah! I knew that they had to be here somewhere, but I was going nuts trying to find them. (They were in a bag on top of the digital piano.) I'm still missing one book though. I hope that I'll find it this weekend.

We got our caps and gowns for Commencement, so the end of the semester approaches. My JavaScript class is almost over too. I need to remember to ask my instructor for resources to practice my Web programming over the summer.

Was yakking about TV and stuff with my friend who works tonight. Thursdays are always my least productive nights.

Harlee was complaining very loudly after she finished dinner. I went over to sit with her, and she promptly retreated to her bed. What was that about, Harlee? Sometimes I think that she meows just because she likes meowing. Loudly.
