Overslept. I don't know why because I got enough sleep, although I was reading for a while about Hawaii island.

Zara is being extra-snuggly this morning. I need to get moving though. I can just see it now, "My cat wouldn't let me go to work."

I closed the blinds in the living room to keep the place cooler. Harlee isn't very interested in the outside world anyway. I was going to close two out of three blinds in the kitchen, but Zara was looking out of one of the blinds that I was going to close. I don't want to deprive the cats of their entertainment, so I just closed one of the kitchen blinds. Zara must not be too hot, though, because she's snoozing in front of one of the windows with the blinds open.

The ceiling fan in the bedroom works so well that I got cold and had to shut it off last night.

I'm trying to accumulate a full washer load as much as I can given my sock situation. I did order some navy socks from Amazon. If I like them, I'll get black socks too.

In a way, strategizing how to save energy is kind of fun. And I'm helping save the planet!

I leave the light on in the kitchen when I come home for dinner, though, because I want to be able to see if Mimi tries to get out when I come home at night. Any ideas on an alternative? I thought about a smart plug or timer, but I also have the freezer plugged into the outlet that also has a lamp plugged into it. That house needs more plugs! I also have a motion-sensor light outside, but it doesn't light up the inside of the house.

We're ramping up for our project at work. I was running around like crazy earlier. I always tell people who think that we laze around during the summer that summer is usually my busiest time because we do major projects then.

I'm having some issues with my flexible spending account, so I need to postpone my dental cleaning this Friday until I get things squared away.

My cable modem is having issues too. I really need to replace it with the new one this weekend.

Chill!

Has anyone used reflective window curtain panels? Are they worth it? Do they work well? Anything that keeps the place cool during the summer and warm during the winter sounds like a good plan. Blackout curtains might work too, but they are more expensive. I've gotten hooked on ceiling fans. They make the place seem more pleasant. The cats like them too. I also looked at dehumidifiers (we run them at the library), but there are mixed reviews on whether they actually save energy.

Had problems getting up this morning. I don't know why because I had a long nap last night.

A moment of Kitty Drama: I filled a bowl with dry food, and Mimi was eating it. Harlee came over, and she was clearly hungry. Mimi moved her head to chew, and Harlee tried to get into the dish. Mimi "acked" at her, but then she left to give Harlee access to the bowl. After all, Harlee is the Queen. I'm glad that she's eating.

I've been chatting with my dad about Hawaii via e-mail. It's gotten too built up for his tastes. I definitely want to plan a trip to Hawaii island (Big Island) when I can pull it off. It's almost reasonable price-wise.

There's also some good condo (real estate) deals in a 55+ community in Lihue (Kauai island in Hawaii). Everywhere but Maui.

Finally got my weary butt into work. I'm trying to convince myself to leave my fan to go "weed" books. I finally did.

I was starving, so I went to dinner early. That's the nice thing about working when the library is closed; I can do what I want within reason. I also got my recycling in the bin during dinner and washed some dishes. More Kitty Drama: Mimi was hissing at Harlee because Harlee was on the same futon as her. Oh, take a chill pill, Mimi! Coexist, like the bumper sticker!

Someone had an apple in the refrigerator at work, and I had the impulse to eat it. I figured that an impulse to eat healthy food shouldn't be ignored, so I went to Walmart and bought apples. I looked for knee socks too--I usually buy them at Meijer's in Springfield or Bloomington so that they all match, but it's a drive--but Walmart didn't have any. Weird. I might try Amazon. I want more socks because I wash clothes more often on partial loads because I run out of socks. I have no idea where they go.

So much for getting a lot done. Meant to get up at 7 PM, but got up at 8:30. Oh well.

Was looking at clothespins for my drying rack. You'd think that clothespins are clothespins, but it was hard to find something that got good reviews on Amazon. I wound up getting stainless steel ones.

I was looking at Hawaii real estate out of curiosity (there are some good deals in Hilo on the Big Island), when it hit me--it's more expensive to live in the San Francisco Bay Area than Hawaii. That's scary. Speaking of living in Hawaii, there recently was a job there that I was sorely tempted to apply for, but I need to stay in the Midwest for my mom. It also was in Honolulu, which isn't one of my favorite cities.

If I want to take a trip to Hawaii, Airbnb is the way to go. Much cheaper than a hotel. Though now is not the best time to go to the Big Island because of the volcano erupting (and earthquakes!!)

Amazing how much more snuggly Zara is when I'm eating :)

I think that I want to go to bed early and get up early to get a few things done before work.

I bought a used outdoor drying rack from Amazon. I hope that it will work well for me. Glad that I found a used one because new ones are expensive! However, I also discovered that my clothes dry in a half-hour instead of an hour in the dryer. That will save energy!

Forgot to mention that I found some eye shadows at the dollar store that were a pretty color. And the price was right!

Overslept, but still woke up in time to get ready to go to Commencement. The Class of 2018 has duly graduated.

Afterward, I went to the restaurant that my friend likes. I had a bad experience there in the past, but it redeemed itself this time. The service and the food were great. Then I went and got some stuff that I forgot to put on the list yesterday. And I also bought all the remaining garlic french-bread pizza at Aldi's.

I think that a nap is in order....

Had problems getting up. Finally Zara perched on my shoulder, and that got me up. Thanks, Zara. Feeling a little under the weather. Felt hot and cold on and off during the day.

Oh joy.  They're predicting thunderstorms when I'll be driving back from Chicago on Friday.

The Chronicle of Higher Education has an inactive forum about things people do to save money, and I'm taking electronic notes. I need to learn how to change my car's oil. Not only is it cheaper, but I'd save the drive to the car dealer in Bloomington (30 miles away). (I have a free coupon for the oil change, but adding in the trip there and back, it still costs a fair amount.) I suppose that I could get it changed locally though. I originally had to get it changed at the dealer for the warranty, but that's expired.

Boy, am I hitting pay dirt. Lots of discussion about buying glasses online. I get a free pair of glasses at the optician through insurance (although I like Transitions lenses, which cost extra), but I'd like to get a spare pair to keep in the car. Just found out about a free spending tracker. The hits keep coming....I just checked clothesline poles, and they're cheap. I might be able to set one up on the side of the house. It'll be small, but someone suggested putting only things that take a long time to dry on the clothesline (i.e. towels and jeans).

I also really need to relearn how to ride a bike and bike to work.

I filled up my tires before the trip to Chicago tomorrow. Go me. And I will get the cat litter out of the car before I leave! I also got some bagels for breakfasts. I bought trial sized shampoo, etc., but I've got to quit doing that. It is really expensive. What I need to do is fill up bottles with my normal shower supplies so that I have it ready for the next trip. Planning how to save money is kind of fun in a way.

I'm going to pack tomorrow morning. I need to install Python on my netbook tonight.

Harlee was complaining loudly, and I went over and told her that she's fine; she ate, and I sat with her earlier. I swear that she gave me a dirty look ;)

I went to bed early last night, planning to read for a while. Mimi plopped herself between me and the light source, and then lay down on my arm. I was mildly exasperated that I couldn't read. But then I thought about how snuggling with Mommy was probably one of the high points of Mimi's day. So I snuggled with her, and then went to sleep.

Woke up at 9 AM. So much for sleeping in :) Fed myself and the hordes, and scooped litter boxes. My outdoor trash can froze shut last night, so I got it unstuck. Now I'm sipping my coffee.

I need to run errands in the late afternoon. I'm thinking that my plan is to nap, do stuff around here, run errands, hole up in the coffee shop and do some reading/planning, and then go to the movie. The cats will get fed a little late, but not later than when I go to the store after work.

Somewhere along the line, I need to work on a price book so that I can tell when things are on sale. I've also been turning off lights when I'm not using them. (I tend to leave the whole place lit up.) I should unplug my computer when I'm not using it, but the plug is in an inconvenient spot. I suppose that I could unplug it at the computer end.
