I wound up staying up late last night watching a program about an Air Canada flight that ran out of fuel in the 80s. The heroic pilot managed to land the plane with no loss of life. The cause was that previous planes calculated fuel in pounds, but this new plane (a 767) used kilograms, leading the fuelers to fill it only half-full. It was very interesting.

Yay. I texted with the guy who will take my washer and dryer, so it looks like someone will take it.

Italian went well. Afterward, the junk removal guy said that he would be about 30 minutes, so I gobbled a peanut butter sandwich to have something in my stomach.

YAAAAAAY! They took the washer and dryer! And I can contact the company when I'm ready to get rid of the futon. Excellent!

Went grocery shopping. I now have the ingredients for the Spaghetti with Sun-Dried Tomato Cream Sauce.

Reserved the U-Haul. With mileage, it'll be a small fortune, but Mom thinks that I can get reimbursed for it? No, I can't get reimbursed for it but I'll be getting some money from my aunt's estate.

Napped briefly.

The study session that I attended was very helpful. I need to eat, but then I want to do homework while the session is fresh in my mind.

Ate. Took the garbage out. Now I'm feeling exhausted, so I'm wondering if I should get to bed early. I would like to tackle the homework though (done, so I want to go to sleep after emailing the OKCupid person).

Got the insurance claim for my car filed. One more thing off of the list. I've been playing telephone tag with my insurance company. Okay, now I connected with them. They think that the other insurance company will pay for the damage so I won't have to pay the deductible. But they'll release the money without the deductible first.

I'm feeling ready (well, I almost said "almost ready") to tackle the boxes of books that I have in storage. It looks like, if I want to retire in the areas that interest me, I'll have to live in a condo with limited room. So I need to downsize the stuff in storage. I read an article that is motivating me, but I'm not going to get rid of my microwave oven and food processor. I use them!

I might take a Yoga class in the fall along with the Tai Chi class.

I put potatoes in the oven to roast....and the smoke alarms went off. Sigh. I feel sorry for the cats. They hate the alarms.

I was thinking earlier how I get in ruts (but I kind of like my ruts). I eat the same food a lot, but I have been branching out lately. I tend to wear the same clothes over and over (different outfits though) and forget that I have other clothes. Note to self: wear the beige outfit tomorrow.

Made roasted potatoes with herbs and a hamburger, and wow, the potatoes were good. And I used up the leftover potatoes! Zara thinks that the food smelled good too, but she probably is more interested in the hamburger. Too late, Zara, it's gone.

Being a glutton for bureaucratic punishment, I called the cable company because my Internet and cable has been out for a few days. They said that they had to set a reset signal and to call them back if it doesn't work. I doubt that it will work because both the Internet and cable are out, but I'll wait and call them back.

I called the cable company back and spent some time working with Customer Support. They came to the conclusion that they need to send a technician out, so I made an appointment for Saturday. That means that I won't be able to do some things working from home, but I'll be able to do some things locally. I feel like I accomplished something though.

I'm going to put some clothes away and then read and go to sleep.

Well, Hell

Woke up at 11 AM on a dark and rainy day. Had a chance to linger over coffee, which was nice.

Oy. A kid backed into my car while I was dropping books off at the public library book drop. The poor kid was almost shaking. My car has a big dent in It. It took the better part of an hour with the police. I still need to eat dinner.

It's looking like I'll need to work on my spreadsheet from home this weekend. I'll need to install some work software. But I'll be able to work in shorts and a t-shirt ;)

The cats are being entertained by a moth flying around the dining area light. Now they've branched out into fighting with each other. Sigh.

I was looking for an online Tai Chi class because I'm starting to have some problems with balance (and if I'm having problems now, it will only get worse). I'd prefer to join a face-to-face class, but there's nothing in the area. I found an online class that might work. There is a class in Champaign that I could go to, but I don't know if the class is covered under my health plan. Wait, I found a free Tai Chi class on Saturdays in Bloomington. That would work well for me (well, except for getting up at the crack of dawn). Awesome.

Now there are decent-priced homes in Eugene again. Go figure.

I think that I'm going to do the dishes and collapse.

Ouch

I've had a bad headache all day, and have felt tired and spacey. But we had a big accreditation meeting today, so I sucked it up and went into work. If I still feel lousy tomorrow, I'm staying home. I don't have any meetings tomorrow.

I'm squared away with my insurance company about the accident last night.

Apparently there is a fundraising site for Buddhist-related classes, so I'm going to apply. I'd pay for transportation, lodging (Airbnb), and food if the donors could pay my tuition (roughly half and half--I'd be paying slightly more).

WalMart's veggie lasagna is pretty good. Not as good as the lasagna that I make in the crockpot, but not bad. And it's more healthy than the stuff that I ate this weekend, which relied heavily on cheese.

I'm planning to go to sleep really soon, and try to sleep whatever-it-is off.

I'm back

While I was in Detroit, Mom and I watched the Harry Potter movies. (I hadn't seen the first three, and Mom hadn't seen the last two.) A while back, I took a silly "Who is your Harry Potter lover?" quiz and wound up with Snape. I went "Ew," and didn't post the results. However, Alan Rickman as Snape in the movies is another story. He has a very memorable voice and is charismatic. I told my mom that I was a fan, and we went in search of Alan Rickman movies. Mom already had Sense and Sensibility, which was good. She bought Snow Cake (a very interesting character study) and Love, Actually (a typical light romantic comedy, but pretty good). Maybe when I get my DVD player set up, I'll go in search of more Alan Rickman movies.

While we were in Evanston, we also saw Charlie Wilson's War, which was interesting and thought-provoking.

During the entire trip, I stayed organized and wound up being ready to leave early when we had to go someplace. I need to keep that up.

The flights back were uneventful, except for someone nearby who kept on farting the whole way from Chicago to San Jose. It was a looong flight. Someone must have said something to the flight attendant because she sprayed some air freshener near the end of the flight. The flight got in late (11:00 PM?). It took a long time to get my luggage. Two shuttle buses went past me before I found the right place to catch one. I had been running around in the rain, and when I caught the shuttle, someone commented that I didn't need to stand under a rain spout. When I got the car, I smacked the right back corner of the car into a barrier, and now the right side of the bumper is loose.

I went to a 24-hour restaurant (Denny's) to get something to eat and a 24-hour grocery store (Safeway) to get some essentials. By the time that I got home, it was 2:45 AM, and I decided to leave my luggage in the car until I got up today. I slept a lot. I'm still kind of tired.

Mom has come down with something, so I need to stay well-rested to try to fight it off. I also might keep taking Airborne.

The kitties are okay. It took them a while to realize that I was me and not the pet sitter. They've been cuddly and affectionate. I'm fascinated by how small and delicate they are in comparison to my mom's big dog.

I've been lucky because I haven't lost power from the storm.

I was expecting a check from the Unemployment agency, and I really needed the check to pay my mortgage on the 1st. Tonight, I opened my mail to find that I hadn't signed the form for my claim, and they want me to fill out a duplicate form, SIGN IT, and mail it. This delay means it'll be about 10 more days until I get the check. No one's fault but mine, but I flipped out about it.

Later, I was buying a newspaper at a newspaper rack in a shopping center. (For some reason, I'm no longer getting the paper at home.) My car was parked in the parking lot. I heard a crunch of two cars colliding, turned around, realized that my car was hit, saw the other car take off like a bat out of hell, and yelled, "Hey!" The front passenger side was damaged, but the car is drivable.

I called the police, and he took an hour to get there. However, he turned out to be a really nice guy. He apologized for the delay, and told me that because the accident took place on private property, and I didn't get the license of the other car, that he didn't need to fill out a police report. But he called my insurance company and talked to them first, and then passed the phone to me. They're calling me back tomorrow between 10 and 12 to tell me what to do next.

The one good bit of news is that a recruiter left me a message about a job that I had applied for. The humorous or ironic part is that the company makes insurance claim software. I didn't think that the job was a very good match, but maybe it's a good match after all -;)

I'm going to call the recruiter back on Monday morning. I hope that I don't have to bring the car somewhere on Monday morning. Well, the car will just have to wait.
