Mom did not start the day well. Someone called, and she wasn't sure who it was, and she's wondering if she missed a doctor's appointment. She didn't have room to spread out her datebook and pad of paper, so she sorted out the mail that she picked up yesterday. She kept saying that she was overwhelmed and couldn't handle this, which doesn't bode well for after I leave.

She had me run her car for a while. I had some of her stash of soup for lunch. Now she's looking for her ATM card and can't find it. She's getting really upset.

Well, hell. I went to go to the grocery store, and the car wouldn't start. So I called Roadside Assistance for a jump-start. The guy who came said that it wasn't a battery problem and that the car needed to be towed. We sent the car to Mom's favorite mechanics at Midas, but they haven't called back yet. I suggested that we get Mom's meds, which she was concerned about. So we discovered that Mom can drive her car, which is the good news. We also went out to eat and I did the shopping.

This all makes it seem calm and organized, but we were anything but. Mom especially was getting upset.

However, Mom found her ATM card.

Now Mom is not feeling well and has chills. I heated up some soup for her. She said that too much went wrong today for her to handle. Meanwhile, I'm trying to do homework in the midst of all this.

Fabric Day

I woke up early and decided to go with it. That way, I'll get a nap before I go out. Threw in a load of laundry. Made the oatmeal with berries, and it was good and filling. Went to wash my hands because I had berry juice on them--and squirted soap in my eyes. Yikes. Got water all over me washing the soap off.

Zara seems to like the fish k/d food better than the chicken. So far, anyway. I spoke too soon. She's left some in her bowl. Sigh. Zara, I'm just trying to help you! Now she's eating more of it.

I studied some Italian.

Had a nice nap. It's a little disconcerting to eat lunch with a cat (Zara) watching your every move. Now she's loving me up because I make food appear. It must be magic.

I requested a quote on a Costa Rica vacation. And damn, I forgot to say that I'd be traveling alone.

I bankrupted myself at Joann Fabrics. In fact, I had to put some stuff back. My lunch bag is going to be black, purple, and white (matching the fabric that I'm using for the pockets). The drive to Peoria isn't bad. I'm thinking of flying out of there for my next trip. It's $100 more but free parking, so it's a wash. That won't work when I move to Champaign though.

Talked to Mom. She forgot to tell me that her phone wasn't working but I got her on her cell phone. She was in a cranky mood and very tired. My aunt is doing well though.

I ordered more sewing supplies from Amazon.com. I need to go get thread though from Walmart tomorrow. And I need to "preshrink" the fabric that I bought.

Oh, I got the Santorini book and a Greek phrase book.

Note to self: I have a discount code worth $150 off a Cost Saver trip.

Stayed up until 4 AM reading Cleve Jones' memoirs. He's the guy who came up with the idea for the AIDS quilt. He has had an interesting life. And he decided that he wanted to live in San Francisco and moved there without a job or place to live. That took guts.

Woke up at 1:30 PM. Yikes. Did my normal morning routine, and I have time for a short nap. I want to go to Dollar Tree and Aldi before I go to Walmart, plus I need to get the microwave at Walmart before picking up my order. Though I could pick up the microwave after.

I forgot to clean the cats' litter box last night. Must clean it tonight.

Napped briefly and overslept. Jammed to eat and throw myself together.

Then I stopped until I dropped. Went to Aldi and got some odds and ends, including some very nice cheddar cheese because Walmart was out of it. Then I jammed over to Walmart. Got Zara's meds with 10 minutes to spare. The person who's amused that I'm getting meds for my cat was there. Then I looked at microwaves. The choices were Walmart's brand and Hamilton Beach. I've had bad luck with Hamilton Beach microwaves, but I bought one that's a step up from the cheapest in the hope that it will last longer. I also got an extended warranty, which I don't normally do, but this time I did. Bought some makeup.

Then I went and picked up my Walmart grocery order. Then I went to Dollar Tree and picked up soda. Dropped an overdue book at the library.

Finally I'm home. I'm resting and then I'll put groceries away. I thought about setting up the microwave later, but I need to nuke some French bread pizza.

Well, great. I'm going to have to return the microwave. It has a big dent, which I could live with, but it doesn't have the thing that turns the turntable. Given the amount of money that I spent on it, I want it to work.

Talked to Mom. We both had nothing much to report. She's trying to find a tree person to get rid of a tree branch that has partially come down. She's mulling over getting an eyelid lift to see better. Sheesh, everything sags when you get older.

I'm rebelling against doing homework, but given the amount of money that I'm spending on the classes, I need to get the work done. Though maybe I could go to bed early and get up early. I also want to return the microwave tomorrow before work. I need to soak and scrub the cats' primary litter box, so I'll stay up and do homework until it's done.

Called the utility company, and a message said to call back on Monday. So that's that.

Forgot to mention that Mom gave Zara and Mimi some catnip toys in the shape of bottles of wine, and they were a big hit with the girls. They were being a typical catnip-high silly.

Took an ice-cold shower. I'm starting to get used to it, although I still go in and out fast.

Mom and I ate lunch at a new coffee shop. Then I did grocery shopping. Then I showed her the library.

Mom is trying to fix a closet door that's coming off of the track, and she's getting mad at me because I'm not holding it right, etc. I'd rather have someone come in to fix it. Mom finally gave up.

Took a nap with Zara. I got up to do a few things, but will go back to sleep soon.

I signed up for Beachbody on Demand and found my workout clothes. I just need to find my yoga mat. I'm excited! Didn't get up early enough to try it though. That will be the challenge. Ironically, I stayed up late looking at some of the workout videos.

Zara was snuggly over dinner.

Work has been quiet.

The girls are eating, and Zara got a big hunk of food in her mouth, and is trailing meat crumbs across the freezer. Thanks, Zara.

I wish that I knew when the water company will lift the boil order.  I'd like to have coffee in the morning.

I'm trying to decide what to do about re-learning statistics. I need them for a research project that I'm going to do next summer. I could take them on Coursera or at Heartland. Coursera is cheaper and probably more practical, but if I get a B.S. in Computer Science, I'll need an official class as a prerequisite. Need to see if the class is still open as a first step. No, it's waitlisted. I looked at Calculus, but it isn't at a good time for me.

Oh, forgot to mention that Beachbody has a Tai Chi class as well as the Pilates/Yoga class, so I think that I'll alternate them.

Mom Report

Mom is feeling better, but still kind of tired. She's starting to get out of the house and do a few social things though. The doctors had her on double antibiotics, which helped.

They're still running tests on my aunt and haven't started the radiation treatment yet.,

The Comcast Web site says that I need a new modem. I don't know if that's causing the problem though. Still trying to find a phone number to call. I tried to have them automatically recycle my modem, but got an error.
