I forgot to mention yesterday that I told Mom that I might not take my Oregon trip, and she was talking about the protesters in downtown Portland plus how people are freaking out on planes. It might take a while for things to shake down.

Better get a move on. Zara keeps coming over to me and making her food noise. A Mommy's work is never done. Done :) Now Zara has the zoomies.

My girls love boxes, so I always have some hanging around in the kitchen. I saw a Facebook ad for some decorated boxes for cats, which I might get. It would upgrade the space a little.

Ran and got the mail, which I hadn't gotten for a couple of days. No bean seeds yet, although they've been shipped. Springfield Clinic sent a letter that they're out of network with my insurance, which is bad news because that's where all the specialists are. Can't get to Champaign fast enough.

Italian started late, and then I had to leave for voice class. It's the last Italian class for about a month. In the voice class, the teacher was teaching us a French song. (She lives in France.) A student said that "La vie en rose" would be easier because everyone knows the melody, and she was right. I like it. And next class is the last voice class for two months. Everyone's going on vacation.

Hmm. An article that I read suggested snowbirding in Louisiana. I'd love to winter in New Orleans, although it's gotten kind of pricey. But it would be fun.

Hmm. I had planned to empty out the boxes that I brought home and go get more, but it's supposed to rain tonight. Maybe I should do so now. But I really want to nap. I have some stuff that I could do around here. Need to go to the grocery store later.

Had a nice nap. Woke up to the girls wondering if I was going to feed them. They take food very seriously!

Went through the boxes in the car and watered my garden. Got the garbage out. Went to Walmart for some munchies.

Zara always knows that food is food, even when it's something that she normally wouldn't eat, such as cherry pie. But she always has to check it out.

There's an argument going on in Facebook about people shooting off fireworks in our little town. I'm in the anti-firework camp. Technically, they are illegal, but no one pays attention to that.

I should get to bed early if Mimi will let me because she's hanging out on my lap.

Woke up a little after my alarm at 9:30 AM.

Forgot to mention on Saturday that I ran into my vet at Aldi's. That happens less often than you would think, given how small the town is.

Charged the mower battery for 24 hours and then tried the mower, and the battery is dead. The mower company wants a ridiculous amount of money to replace the battery, but there are third party replacements. I'd have to open the battery case and hook up the batteries, but there is a YouTube video on how to do it. Meanwhile, I have to pay to get my lawn mowed, so I won't have the money to replace the battery this month. What a mess.

I need to make my black bean-sweet potato burritos, but it will take a while, so I had some chicken and mashed potatoes first. Zara almost went wild again. Now I'll start my assembly line.

I need more LJ folks to follow. Any suggestions?

I think that I'll just go to bed and cook in the morning. Can't stop yawning.

Caught up on my sleep, both with a long night's rest and a longish nap. My sniffles are starting to go away, although I still have a bit of a cough. Far out.

The cats are being laid back and mellow.

On the docket: shower, laundry, cleaning. This weekend is Lincoln's "Pigs and Swigs" event (barbecue and craft beer), but I decided not to go and to get stuff done around here.

Added: A Robot That Has Fun at Telemarketers’ Expense. This guy is a genius!

My demo went very well yesterday. I like the Dean over at the Normal campus. The faculty were a livelier bunch than the ones at Lincoln too.

However, it was snowing when I went over to the Normal campus and when I left. I had lunch at home and picked up the work laptop. The snow stopped for a while when I drove down to Lincoln after lunch, and the drive wasn't too bad. However, it started snowing again in the afternoon, and the drive home was hair-raising. There was snow on the roads and blowing snow. (It was the first time that I had driven on the highway in serious snow since the accident except for a little while on Thursday.) I went nice and slow and let people pass me. My concern was not unfounded. On a curve that was also elevated like a bridge, someone flew off the road and landed in a tree with the nose of the car pointing down. I don't know what happened to the person driving, but there were a ton of fire trucks and police cars at the scene. I also saw someone in a ditch. When it finally stopped snowing, we had gotten over four inches of snow.

My unofficial title at work seems to be the "person that makes things happen". My library director and someone at the Learning Resource Center at the Normal campus have been really talking up the new system for getting books from other libraries. However, I was the person who asked, "How are we going to get books from the Lincoln campus to the the Normal campus?" My library director gave me a blank look. I asked if there was a mail service from the Lincoln campus to the Normal campus, and he said that he didn't know, but the bookstore people handled the mail. The bookstore people said that they just ask if anyone is going over to the Normal campus and send things with them, but there is "a box at the Business Office". So on Monday, I'm going over the Business Office to find out what the story is. I also asked our library consortium if we could make the Normal campus a stop on the interlibrary loan route, but I'm not holding my breath that we can. I think that the upshot is going to be that I'm going to be the courier, given that I live in Bloomington-Normal and work in Lincoln. Maybe I could ask the person in the Learning Resource Center in Normal to call me when there are books to go back to Lincoln. However, that wouldn't set up a process for after I leave the institution, but I hope that won't be for quite a while.

I originally had planned to drop off my rent check and go to the grocery store last night, but decided not to given the weather. Today, there is freezing rain on top of snow, which doesn't thrill me for driving (although there are some empty spots in the parking lot, so people have made it out). I have homework to work on today, and I'll see what it's like later. I could go tomorrow, but I really want to get the ingredients to make garlic rolls so that I can make them tomorrow. If I really had my act together, I could have the dough prepared and rising during Downton Abbey, but I doubt that I'll be that organized.

Added: Yay, my bookcases have arrived at WalMart, so I need to pick them up also.
