From [personal profile] belleweather:

1. Where did you travel on your last vacation or other big trip?

I haven't gone on a trip in quite a while. I think that the last trip was visiting my mom in Michigan. That was the trip during which the train broke down on the way back, and I had to overnight in Chicago. The last big trip that I took was going to Disney World/Epcot with my mom.

2. What was the best trip you ever took? Where did you go, and with whom, and what made it so good?

The Hawaii trips of my childhood. We went every year for many years. Totally loved that place, and we got the advantages of being "regulars" (and going many years ago when there were fewer tourists). It's a beautiful place.

3. Where do you dream of traveling on your next vacation when it's safe to travel again?

Going back to Hawaii, finally.

4. Where are you likely to actually travel to on your next vacation when it's safe?

I'm hoping to take a trip to Tennessee this fall.

5. Do you prefer to vacation to new places each time or to familiar places -- or maybe you prefer to stay home?

Some of both? I desperately want to go back to Hawaii. But my next big dream trip is to Italy, to which I've never been.

When was the last time you left your home? Today to drop off a rent check and do a grocery pickup.

What was the last thing you bought? Groceries

Is quarantine driving you insane or are you finally relaxed? Some of both. I'm enjoying it more than I did to begin with. Doing stuff around my place helps.

Who are you spending quarantine with? My cats

Do you have pets to keep you company? See above

What are your current responsibilities? Working and running the household

Do you have a room to yourself? Yes and no. My cats think that they own the place!

Are you exercising? I haven't been, but now I have the treadmill put together. The exercise bike is next.

Town, country, city? Small town

How’s your toilet paper supply? Okay so far. I haven't run out yet.

What’s the worst thing that you had to cancel? Not being able to travel

What’s the best thing you’ve had to cancel? My commute, as short as it is

Who do you miss the most? My mom

Do you have any new hobbies? Working on them. I bought a candle kit and an old DSLR.

What are you watching the most? Operas and Harry Potter

Are you still going to work? From home

What are you out of? Tomatoes

Have you made any changes to your hair during quarantine? My hair is doing pretty well. It's just a little floppy. I have dye for when my roots start to bug me.

Let's do a curious unexpected topics meme.

Those who wish to participate will say so, and I will give them three topics, or spheres of interests, which I think they are not interested in, or maybe I would be even surprised to learn that they have an affinity with.

It would be curious to learn who will be more surprised, those who hear what people think they are not interested in or cannot do, or those who learn that their expectations of people are either incorrect or spot on.

I was given my topics by [profile] jaella_n_gilla:

1) swimming
I loved to swim when I was a child. I remember my dad telling me that during our trips to Hawaii, I was turning blue with cold in the water, but I'd beg for a few more minutes swimming.

Then I didn't swim for many years. Back around the early 00s, I took some swimming lessons during the winter, which might not have been the right idea, given that it was an outdoor pool. It was in California, and a heated pool, but still, the cold blast of air walking to the pool and, worse, getting out, was pretty hard to take. But I did learn to swim again and did so for several years.

Now I haven't swum again for a while. I do have free access to the college's pool during the school year, but I'd rather review how to swim in a pool that's less deep. (The divers also use the one at the college.) When I take Calculus in the fall, I could use the pool at a health club nearby. I have access to it through my health insurance. [personal profile] susandennis's posts about her swims is inspiring me.

2) ER/doctors tv series
I don't watch television very often and don't know what doctors TV series are on.

3) cats
Oh, I could write reams about cats! I have two cats. Zara is a small, lithe, athletic gray cat. She interacts with people very much on her own terms, but can be very sweet and vulnerable too. Mimi is a very large, fat, calico cat who is a lap cat. I recently (well, it's been almost a year) lost my beloved cat Harlee to kidney disease. She was my cat doppelganger; if I was a cat, I would have had her personality. I also have had five other cats who have passed away. Plus one other cat who stayed with my ex when we split up.
