The dress that I’m wearing for New Year’s is the perfect travel dress. It doesn’t wrinkle. It’s a Chico’s petite maxi dress that you can dress up or down. It’s comfortable and flattering.

I’ve decided to stay up until midnight Illinois time, which is an hour earlier than our current ship’s time. I’m going to skip the shore excursion.

Apparently sequins and lamé are in. Lots of women wearing sparkly outfits.

They didn’t have a countdown for Central Time, but I drank my champagne (I forgot how much I like champagne) and silently toasted the New Year. I went looking for food, but the station wasn’t open. I’m not staying up until midnight ship’s time. Anyway, Happy New Year!

I went and got something to eat, so I did stay up until midnight ship’s time. Lots of people wishing each other Happy New Year.

One flute of champagne got me pretty wasted, so I’m going to sleep now. And I’m not setting an alarm.

Woke up at 8 AM. The hot water is finally back on in the shower. Oh frabjous day!

I like the looks of Cabo San Lucas. I’ll put it on my list (which keeps growing, not shrinking!)

My feet are very puffy. I'll lie down with them up. Good thing that I have a doctor's appointment when I get back.

Had lunch (Caesar salad and an eggnog soft-serve). Now I’m hanging out until my manicure. The captain announced that we'll be heading back to San Diego, which I knew. We'll have one more day at sea. We turn the clocks back tonight.

Had my manicure done. Waited for my nails to dry. Had dinner. I had some fatty duck that I didn’t like and some mushroom soup that was really good.

I went to check out the shops because there is a nice bag in the rooms that says "Holland America," and it would be great for my music for choir. They had only large canvas bags, which is not what I'm looking for.

It's still early, but I think that I'll post. I start yawning at dinner time. It must be the sea air.

I had a nice couple of slices of pizza and some cheesecake. My stomach seems more settled now. Moving ship + empty stomach is not a good combo.

I’d like a room service breakfast, but they didn’t include the order form in here. Apparently there is a menu available on the TV. I’ll see after I get up. The buffet doesn’t serve breakfast apparently.

Apparently I did book a massage not tomorrow but the day after. Cool because I don’t want to spend the money now, but it’s already paid for.

I had problems falling asleep for two hours. Annoyingly, I woke up at 5:00 California time. (Our clocks moved an hour ahead.) It's going to be a lazy day.

The shower was hot-cold-hot-cold all the way through. Well, not ice cold, but still. I managed to get soap in my eyes. My electric razor uncharged itself (was it buzzing away in my luggage?), so I'm glad that I found a pair of long pants to wear.

They were serving breakfast after all. The list of hours for the buffet was wrong. I had French toast.

I’m stalling to give Housekeeping time to make up my room. I read some of my Tim Curry book. I really want to lie down though. I got 3 hours of sleep! Napped and got up for lunch. This is the slug portion of my journey.

Had fish-and-chips for lunch, and a great raspberry soft-serve cone for dessert.

I get antsy when I can't access LJ and DW. The WiFi on my phone is spotty, but it works fine on my laptop. All, apparently, is all right with the world.

It's warming up. Some of the sun worshippers are out in swimsuits. The hot tub was full, but I don't think that anyone has braved the pool yet. I felt comfortable in short sleeves.

Today and tomorrow are "at sea" days. We'll get to Puerto Vallarta on Tuesday (I think?)

I'm fighting a sense of foreboding, but I don't know what I think is going to happen.

Slept again. I’m a party animal.

There’s a different vibe on this ship from the Panama Canal cruise. That ship attracted engineers and dreamers, and it was a quiet ship. This trip, there’s a “I’m going to Mexico and drinking margaritas” vibe. Oh well. I go my own way.

I’m wondering what New Year’s Eve will be like on the ship. I might raise a flute of champagne then. But what are we doing New Year’s Day? Ugh. I need to meet my shore excursion at Cabo San Lucas at 7:30 AM!

The guys working on the ship have a California windbreaker with shorts style.

I’m soaking underwear and socks in the sink. (They have a built-in clothesline in the shower for people who do that.) And I filled a “laundry by the bag” with my clothes for when we get back to San Diego. I need two days of clothes because my flight gets into Chicago around 10 PM, and I’m overnighting before I catch the bus to Champaign.

Had salmon for dinner and cheesecake for dessert. Watched the Downton Abbey movie. Eh, it was okay but not great. I'm glad that I didn't see it in a theater.

I’m yawning at 9:30 PM. I’m a party animal. I think that I will have a snack though.

Spent some quality time with Zara and Mimi. I want to reassure them.

I bought some pooper scoopers.

Zara’s schooling Oliver! He ran after her and she was swiping at him.

Lily really wants to be let out. I’ll do so after my nap this morning.

Fed the catlings and myself.

I’m staying home today and will work on the house.

I need to get a “Please close the gate—dogs live here” sign on Etsy (done).

Started laundry. Had a nice long nap, but I feel like going back to bed. Oh well, it’s a holiday, so I’ll take another nap. Couldn’t sleep. It didn't help that Oliver was rolling around on my head and then did a pungent poop in the litter box.

Ugh. Zara was in here, but Oliver came in here, and she ran into the library room. Oliver followed her in there, so I forcibly removed him. At least, he’s easy to distract. Oliver gets into faces, whether they’re human or feline. He needs to stop that. Hmm, I’m wondering how I can work on the library room if Zara is in there and Oliver follows me around.

I’m looking for a dog boarding place for during my cruise in March. That’s a long time for Angel (Bella?) to be mostly alone. I found a place that also does dog training. Excellent. There's another place called "Dog House on the Prairie".

Hmm. Working is going to be interesting later this week because Oliver likes to walk on and lie on computers. I might have to put him in kitty jail. Maybe I should bring the gate upstairs and put him in the guest room.

I’m trying to decide what to do, let Lily out or work on the aquarium. I think that I want to work on the aquarium. Oliver wanted to be involved with decorating the aquarium. I told him that a cat does not add. I think that I want a board to put over the top of it. Oliver has already fallen in. (There’s no water in it yet.)

Crud. They’re predicting snow on Thursday, but only about an inch.

I think that I’ll let Lily out when I’m making my Green Chef dinner. I’ll be able to keep an eye on her. No, I let her out now. She told Oliver off. She’s tiny, but feisty. She seems to be doing okay. Oliver runs after her, and she turns and growls, and he slams on the brakes. It’s pretty funny. He’s still trying to bother Lily. I’m kind of glad that she likes to climb and he doesn’t. I have to admit that it’s easier for the rest of us when he’s distracted by Lily.

Lily’s still scared of me, although she did sniff my hand. That’s okay; she’ll get used to me.

I’ve decided that I’ll make the Creamy Garlic-Herb Chicken Skillet tonight. It seems fairly easy.

I ordered “Muddy Mats” for the front and back doors and they’ve arrived. Perfect timing with the dog coming later this week. I’ll have to remember to put a rag by the door to wipe muddy paws.

Napped. I’m not sure exactly when I went to sleep but I think that it was three or four hours. Oliver and Lily are okay. She’s advanced to smacking Oliver if he gets too close. I’ve got their dishes soaking. Fed the hordes. I’m starting to really like Lily. She asks for what she wants (in this case, food). She isn’t a pushover.

Oliver knocked his food off of the counter (I have to feed him first because he tries to eat everyone else’s food) and started to eat Lily’s food. I rescued it and gave it to her in the bathroom.

Hmm. It just occurred to me that cooking might be difficult with Oliver around. And I’m hungry now. I’m thinking of having a cooking day tomorrow when I make the food and freeze it. Maybe I’ll start prepping tonight. Maybe I should shut Oliver in the bathroom while I cook.

Now I’m wondering if I should call the dog Bella because she is beautiful. I found a site on Etsy that has a collar personalized with the dog’s name and the person’s phone number and address.

There’s a fly in here that Lily is stalking. Oliver is licking up my Louisiana Crunch Cake crumbs. Strange kitty. Lily is licking the fork that Oliver knocked down.

I shut Oliver in the bathroom and made the food. It looks good. I’m letting it cool off. I’ll try a little and freeze the rest. It’s pretty good. And it’s healthy; it has chicken, kale, cauliflower, and peas, plus some cheese and sauce. I enjoyed the cooking. Put it in the freezer but realized that I don’t have freezer tape. I need to get some. Loaded the dishwasher and started it and let Oliver out.

Oh good. I was wondering where I could walk Bella before driving back from Bloomington to Champaign (a little over an hour). The TA Travel Center (a truck stop) has a dog run. I’ll buy a soda there and walk her. I’m also going to stop at a rest stop on the way.

Now I’m thinking that I’ll stay up for the New York City countdown (it’s almost 11:30 there), feed the cats, start another load of laundry, and go to bed.

I missed the New York countdown because Oliver was rolling around on my laptop and shut off my WiFi. Somehow, that's appropriate. I'm going to post while he's running around and go feed them and do the nightly routine. Happy furry New Year, everyone!

I did stay up to midnight last night. I was in bed, when I realized that it was time for the countdown, so I watched it and then turned off the light.

Washed part of the kitchen floor. Abrupt change of plans: the people are coming to get the dryer at 3:30, so I need to pack some towels and clothes near the dryer before continuing with the kitchen (done). Now I know how to get my floors squeaky clean. Sweep (sometimes twice in high-litter areas), scrub the floor on my hands and knees with floor cleaner, mix bleach and water and mop the floor, let it sit for 10 minutes, and mop with just water. The floor looks fantastic, but oh, it's a lot of work.

I've been so busy that I forgot to eat lunch.

Okay, some guys picked up the dryer.

Mostly cleared off my bed and dresser. I'm not going to close my suitcase, which is on the bed, until the morning.

I'm worried about my dad. I sent him an email, and he didn't respond, which is unusual. I wondered if they had a power failure in his town in Western Nevada, and sure enough, they had a big outage. They said that it might not get completely fixed until Tuesday, which is a long time during the winter. (Heavy snow caused the outage.) There is a warming center in his town, but I don't know how hard it would be to get there.

I found a dining table that is water- and heat- resistant and dining chairs with washable covers. Pricey, but if it would last a long time, it would be worth it.

I'm about to scrub the home office floor, so I decided to post first. I should get some sleep tonight. but not a full night's sleep.
