Lost Day

I'm really stressing about the iCAN application, which is silly. Either I'll get in or I won't. I'll deal if I don't.

I feel sorry for the athletes who have trained hard for the Olympics, only to get knocked out because of a positive COVID test :(

I want to create an Etsy store with printables. I've made a list of ones to make. Now I need to explore Canva.

I'm trying to get the last drops of makeup foundation out, not just to be frugal, but because I've ordered some from Amazon that is supposed to arrive tomorrow, so I didn't want to buy more tonight. But it has a plastic pump cap that wouldn't come off. So I slid a knife under it and pushed it up, which worked almost too well because the cap bounced off the wall behind the sink and landed in the sink. A personal best!

Ran out to get soda. Decided not to go to Walgreens to look for free masks because it was cold.

I've been sucked into the Olympics. They keep saying that the skating will be "later". Now they're saying 11 PM. Now I'm finally watching it. Nathan Chen blew it away.

And now it's late. Tomorrow I'm not watching the Olympics, so I should get more done.

I got my federal tax refund. Cool.

I have to remember to order Zara's food. I forgot today.

This evening, I paid bills, worked on my side business, practiced piano (the practice time goes fast!), studied Italian, read part of my How to Read Music book, and studied Java. It was an accomplished evening and I feel kind of good.

I can't get over how much I enjoy playing the piano. It seems like less of a struggle than guitar. (I still want to take guitar lessons too though. My goal is to write humorous songs about getting older during retirement and post them on YouTube.)

I set up a commitment on StickK to clean and declutter 15 minutes every day. If not, Donald Trump's PAC gets $5 of my money per skipped day (ugh!!!) So I better go do so.

It's going to be a busy weekend. I have my usual homework, plus I want to do some stuff for work to get farther ahead.

However, I need some music in my life, so I signed up for group piano lessons on Lessonface. Why not guitar? Well, some of the fingers on my hand were peeling, and they've just healed, and I think that guitar might rip then up. Eventually I'd like to do group guitar lessons as well. I need to see if they have group voice lessons. No, they don't. Anyway, one of my goals for tonight is cleaning off the digital piano and making sure that it's plugged in. I'm excited! I've wanted to learn piano for a long time. I also bought a book about reading music. I used to be able to read music, but I'm rusty.

Goofball Zara is scratching around in a box. Silly cat :)

I'm busy, ha ha, so I spent some time this evening listening to a guy talking about starting a mug business. He was selling something of course, but I got enough info to try to work with. And I came up with some mug ideas that I like. It's print on demand, so I won't lose anything by trying. I need to learn more about Etsy.

[personal profile] spikesgirl58 asked what was your favorite job, and I have to say the one that I have now. It allows me to do things that I enjoy: debugging, documenting, and working with libraries....It's great to be able to say that. I think that I'll do some work for work before I go to sleep.

I'm still on my previous college's alert, and all classes are being moved online due to the weather. The students are probably disgusted that they aren't getting a snow day. And holy cow, now they' re predicting 5 to 7 inches of snow.

Zara appears to have forgiven me for taking her to the vet. She gave my hand a little kiss. Aww.

I have a homework assignment to hand in tonight that I previously did last semester and one that's not due today that I have to do from scratch. I'm just going to hand in the one that I have to hand in and then crash. Tired today.

I read an article about creating classes on Udemy that said that everyone has a topic for a class. I pondered this, and it occurred to me that I could create a class on cataloging and organizing your home library. Maybe once I get to be a Keto expert, I could do one on that too. Though hmm, there's a ton of classes on Keto. Maybe a guide to navigating the mental health system?

[profile] floating_leaf mentioned a group that fosters personal growth and support called A New and Ancient Story, which I've now joined. One person was talking about the Enneagram (a way of typing personalities), and I was wryly amused that a lot of people had Enneagram Type 4, The Individualist, which I also am. I'm finding that I can't respond to topics right away but need to let them marinate. I do that with LJ a lot too.

My weird stomach is twinging out again tonight, so maybe it wasn't the Keto Chow yesterday? I ate some Keto bread and peanut butter, which seems to help. Maybe carbs were keeping my stomach settled. I hope that I figure this out. I'm also feeling chilled, but maybe that's because it's cold. I really want some soup, but all I have are carb soups.

Snowpocolypse doesn't seem to be happening. It's snowing, but there isn't the piles of snow that they were threatening. That's good, but I'm also feeling a little disappointed? I don't know why. I work from home, so I work no matter what. The college that I used to work for canceled their classes tomorrow though. Maybe they think that we'll get more snow later.

Discovered that the American Society for Indexing offers its training courses free with a $199 membership. Each class used to be around $200, I think. Maybe they're making it easier for people to freelance during the pandemic. I'd also get access to a jobs list with membership. No, they are charging for the classes, but it's less than $200.

I asked my dad if he had any biotech mutual funds or ETFs to recommend, and he pointed me to an article that I've already read. Ah well.

I have one of those pillows that you put behind your back, and it tipped over. Mimi thinks that it's a great kitty bed.

Had a nice nap and a bite to eat. Zara had to come over and sniff my food. Goofy girl.

I found my spray bottle that I use for wrinkled clothes. It was in the black hole known as "the kitchen". I probably used it to break up a cat fight.

The floor cleaner left a gray film over the floor, probably because I cleaned the scrubber bar with dish soap. Or it's from cat litter. I need to wipe the floor down with a damp towel. And rinse out the scrubber bar.

I'm working on the laundry area, and I'm working until my back hurts, stopping, and starting again. It's a little frustrating. Okay, cleaned up the laundry area.

Here comes the storm that they said that we might or might not get.

Zara was very in my face while I was eating dinner. Then I realized that I forgot to feed them! Bad Mommy! And I WAS eating chicken.

Mom emailed me and told me that a doe had a pair of fawns in her backyard. This is the third time! She said that watching them was good for the soul.

Hmm. I want to get the FitDesk into the bedroom and assemble it, but Zara's still eating. I guess that I'll post. Got it into the bedroom and ran into a small snag.

All your boxes are belong to us.

The FitDesk assembly instructions are on an app that you can download as well as on paper.

Out Sick

Forgot to mention that I dropped my Heartland classes to free myself up for side hustle fall.

Even though I went to sleep early. I kept on hitting snooze for a long time this morning. Mimi finally lay down on me, and then I got up.

I decided to stay out sick today. Went back to sleep. Had some ramen. Got my summer blanket out because it's cooler. Went back to sleep. Got up and threw myself together and got more ramen (plus some soda and cookies while I was at it).

The Walt Disney World book that I'm reading is good. I want to get a copy, but I'll wait until Star Wars is included.

I want to get into the freezer to get a burrito, but Zara is on it. I guess that I'll have to feed them before I can get in there. That's what I did, and we're all fed.

I was playing a video of a tiny kitten purring and squeaking, and the girls ignored it. Then I played a video with a dog barking. Zara ignored it, but Mimi emerged from her box and was looking for the dog. (Mimi has lived with a dog. I'm her third human.)

Some people on a Facebook group about side hustles have set up an LLC with LegalZoom. Good to know.

I'm yawning, so I'm going to go to bed and read for a while. Oops, needed to put clothes on the drying rack first.

Woke up after hitting snooze a few times. My phone apparently didn't charge.

The recording for a webinar for which I lost sound is up at work. Good. Submitted the items for the computer system conversion that are due tomorrow.

Picked up my prescriptions on the way home. A woman who worked at the pharmacy was ahead of me in line. She said that she was trying all day to find a time when no one else was there. I said not to worry.

Watched a couple of videos by the weight-loss guy who loves Disney. One of them was in Disney's Animal Kingdom, which I would like to see.

I tried to drop my fall classes at Heartland, but kept on getting an error when I tried to change my password. I'll try again tomorrow.

Trying to figure out what to do. I need to clean the stove. I also want to read a book about running an indexing business. I guess that I could change into my cleaning clothes, spray the stove, and read while the cleaner is working.

The Starting an Indexing Business book is good. It's giving me a lot to think about. I'm trying to figure out how I could set up the fax machine on my printer. Can you use VOIP for that, or do you need a landline? I need a business checking account soon so that I can pay for classes out of it and deduct them on taxes.

The Fly

Jul. 15th, 2019 12:52 am
days_unfolding: (Default)

Woke up around noon. I ran around closing blinds because it's supposed to be hot, but I have a couple of them open part way so that the girls can look outside. (Zara ruined some blinds in the old place trying to look out the window.)

There's a fly in here. Zara is stalking it. For some reason, the fly likes my cell phone. Zara is bored with the fly now. I'm thinking of the Ogden Nash poem about the fly. ("God in his wisdom made the fly/And then forgot to tell us why")

It looks like the remnants of Tropical Storm Barry might go into this area. It'll be a while until it gets up here though.

Had a nice nap and a bite to eat.

Changed into cleaning clothes. Emptied the drying rack and folded it up. Did dishes.

There was a storm to the west of us. I took a short nap, and now we're in the middle of a storm.

There was a post on Facebook with a long list of things that librarians do as a side hustle (although it's a sad commentary that a lot of librarians need side hustles). LOTS of great ideas. I also found someone who teaches English online.

I looked into The American Society for Indexing. I used to index as a tech writer, and like the idea of freelance indexing. They have a certificate program in indexing, but it's pricey. Membership is pricey too. Hmm. There is a chapter in Chicago.

The fly is still here or it has a cousin.

Got the kitchen counters cleaned and the floors swept. I'm going to mop my way towards the bedroom and go to sleep.
