Murphy was an optimist
Nov. 28th, 2006 01:31 amThanksgiving was pleasant. Mom and I went to Marie Callender's for dinner. I've had a weird thing going on this week in which I feel like I'm hungry, but wind up picking at my food. (I think that's my body telling me that I've been eating too much.)
Friday, we got a late start, but drove up to San Jose. We went to see Bobby when we got there. The movie was interesting. Not great, but interesting.
Saturday, I walked into the bathroom in the master bedroom of my condo--and found the floor full of water, some of which had also gotten into the carpet outside of the bathroom.
So I called a plumber and got an appointment for Sunday. He told me that the toilet needed to be replaced. He also said that the floor in the bathroom needed to be replaced. I also asked him to look at the other toilet in the condo because it was leaking slightly too. (I hadn't fixed it because I generally use the other toilet. The more fool me. I think that one moral of this story is to keep up on maintenance.) I also asked him to look at a leaky faucet. The total estimate was $1100.00. (Ouch, but I expected that it would be about that high.) He asked me to make another appointment to get the work done.
Mom suggested that I get the easy-to-fix toilet done now, but wait until after I move to replace the first toilet and the floor. I'd like to get an estimate from Home Depot on replacing the toilet and get a couple of estimates on replacing the floor.
Sunday and Monday, we cleaned the carpet in the condo. My mom is a wizard with the steam cleaner, and the carpet came out much, much nicer than I thought was possible. (Now I just need to finish cleaning the walls, and the place is going to look pretty good.)
Monday night, we left to go back to Fresno. Between San Jose and Gilroy, we hit fog. A lot of fog. Mom wanted to turn back immediately, but I insisted that we go to the 24-hour WalMart in Gilroy to get an air mattress and sleeping bag for her so that she wouldn't have to sleep on the wet carpet in my condo. (Somewhere in here, I asked what else would go wrong, but quickly said "Maybe I shouldn't say that.") We went back to the condo and slept well.
Today, we drove back from San Jose, and then picked up my car, which was finally fixed. I was pretty toasted by the time we got home, so I took a nap -;)
Mom leaves tomorrow. The rest of the week, I need to start talking to movers. (I tentatively picked 12/21 as the move date, but I think that I need to make it a little earlier because the carpets in the Fresno apartment need to be cleaned, and the apartment needs to be sprayed for fleas.) I also need to make an appointment in San Jose to have the toilet fixed.
