My reading list
Oct. 7th, 2007 01:18 amMy newspaper subscription ran out today. My dad told me that I didn't need to get the paper because I could get my news on the Internet. True, but reading the Mercury News on the Internet is very different from reading it on paper. On the Internet, I read only those articles whose title is interesting. On paper, I read a lot more articles. I suppose that you could look at it as I'm wasting less time, but I still feel that I'm losing something.
I found another library branch to use (Almaden). It obviously was built recently and is quite a fancy building. I had put a biography of Jerry Seinfeld on hold. (Time magazine had an article about him that piqued my interest.) I also checked out bios of Rupert Everett and Nicole Kidman.
The third book in the series that I'm reading, Dorothy Dunnett's House of Niccolo series, will come to this library. I hope that they notify me when it comes in because they didn't notify me when the Seinfeld book went on hold.
I was thinking about how many books I like are series of books. There's Dorothy Dunnett's first series, The Lymond Chronicles. There's Armistead Maupin's The Tales of the City books. There's the Harry Potter books. There's James Herriot's All Creatures Great and Small series. I guess the appeal is getting to know a cast of characters over time.
Speaking of time, I canceled Time magazine a couple of months ago, but I'm still getting it. The people who manage the subscription insist that it's been canceled.
Getting a part-time job is turning out harder than I would have thought. I've applied at 11 places thus far with no job yet. As for tech writing jobs, I got a "no" from one interviewer and silence from the other one. I have one company that hasn't said "yea" or "nay" yet.
