I managed to get the microwave to cook my breakfast, but its days are clearly numbered. Sigh. It deigned to cook my lunch too. I hope that it will heat up my tortellini for me when I get home. (It did.)

It's a dark and rainy day. I want to go back to sleep, but I can't.

I don't think that Mom is coming down today given that she hasn't called. That'll give me more time to get my act together.

I looked into public transportation to and from various 55+ communities in Tucson, and it looks like that there isn't any on the outskirts of town. I'd have to take Uber to get around if I don't drive. There are a few communities on public transportation, but they have fewer amenities than the big places. I'm going to have to sort out the tradeoff.

I'm wondering if I should bite the bullet and learn to sew. I don't see making my own clothes, but I have several jackets that need replacement zippers, and that could add up into real money. Plus I have some pockets coming off and hems unraveling. They would be easier to fix on a sewing machine than by hand. I also want cloth napkins, and that's a fairly easy project. I did see a refurbished machine on eBay that interested me. (Actually, I found a used machine with good reviews on Amazon on Facebook Marketplace. I love Facebook Marketplace.) And I found a class in Springfield on how to learn to sew, but I'd have to get the machine for the class. They also have a class on sewing with faux fur (at an Intermediate level). I've always wanted a puffy faux fur jacket. They also have a jacket mending class including replacing zippers, but it's advanced.

Hmm. If I got rid of the really ratty cat tree that Harlee loved but the other two don't use, I'd have room to set up a sewing machine.

Added: I ran across Subversive Cross Stitch, and I think that I'm in love. Must get one of those kits.

And now I'm off for five days due to "Fall Break". Yay.

I'm going to sleep early to get up early to call the bank about my PIN and to do some cleaning. We'll see if I have to go to Springfield to get the PIN changed.

I went looking for a recipe for apple-walnut cake because the one that I got at Aldi was so awesome. I saw several Bundt cake recipes, but decent Bundt pans are expensive. I finally found a recipe that you can bake in a normal cake pan. Must try it.

(I labeled this entry in Google Keep as "Saturday," not Friday, at first. I'm so confused....)

Zara knows my morning routine as well as I do. Early in my routine, she'll settle on my lap. But when I'm drinking coffee after finishing my grits, she won't go on my lap because she knows that I'm going to feed them soon. Now that she's eaten, she's back on my lap again.

Trying to plan my day. I need to put a package together and mail it. It would be good if I could go by the gym too. And I need to clean. It looks like Mom isn't coming down today because she hasn't called.

Well, I tried to put the package to mail together, but my printer was flaking out. Need to figure out what's wrong. I finally gave up and threw myself together, figuring that I could at least talk to the person at the gym about the gym card that I have from my health insurance. The person wasn't there. She took the day off. I was kind of annoyed, but I'm taking a day off over the holiday weekend, so she has the right to take a day off.

The rest of my errands went better. Returned some library books and checked out a library book. Got soda. Went to Aldi and scored another German Apple Walnut cake. I want my mom to try it.

I was thinking about the rules that we set for ourselves. I have a rule that I can buy french-bread pizza at Aldi only if I go there to get something else, so I picked up a couple of pizzas. (Otherwise, I'd be living on french-bread pizza.) What are some of your rules?

Finally, got gas so that I can bug out to Springfield on Tuesday if I need to go to the bank.

Oh, and I turned up the heat because it might freeze tonight. It was 44 degrees F when I left for my errands, so I dug out one of my winter coats. I was wondering if I was overdressing, but I wasn't.

Had a bite to eat. I'm eating pesto tortellini for both lunch and dinner today because Mom and I will be eating out tomorrow, and I don't want to waste the food.

There is a a subReddit about mending that I've joined. There's also a couple of sewing ones. Sustainability!

Overslept my nap. After I got up, I went to call my bank, but it was open until 10 PM Eastern Time, not Central Time, so it was closed. I'll try calling them tomorrow.

I turned up the heat because I wanted to make sure that it would turn on. It did. Also, I kept the thermostat setting higher than I would normally set it because Mom is coming. She's always cold.

Had a bite to eat. I'm thinking of going to bed early so that I can get up early and get some stuff done before Mom comes.

The Disney/weight loss guy whom I follow on Facebook has an online class that you can buy about how to maximize your use of FastPasses at Disney to minimize your line spent in line. He's been doing well with it. Someone told the company hosting the site that there was copyrighted material in there, which he swears wasn't true, and the hosting site took his class down. He was scrambling today to get the class back up on a different site. Mean people suck.

Added: Sam's Club has a set of three Bundt pans for $20. That's a good deal.

Added again: Now my printer is working. I don't know what the problem was earlier.
