Good to see that Kerry showed some class.

I hope that Bush is serious about reaching out to Kerry voters. On the other hand, he had that chance after the last election, and he blew it. Hopefully now that Bush doesn't have to worry about being reelected, he won't pander to the far right so much. (The tendency to legislate moral issues is my big conflict with the Republican party. And for those who say "Well, those are the views of the far right, not the centrist views of the Republican party," the fact is that every Republican candidate has played to the far right, so those are the views of the Republican party.)

For what it's worth, I called these results three weeks ago (that is, Bush will win, but it'll be close), so I've had a lot of time to get used to the idea. I don't understand why people seem to think that it's the end of the world; we have a history of surviving our presidents no matter what their ideology is.

He won't "reach out." Why should he? He's a lame duck now...he doesn't need to do anything to appeal to any voters. We won't be just seeing "more of the same" - we'll be seeing more of more of the same. Just watch what will happen to the Supreme Court in the next four years. But...so it goes. Ebb and flow. We survived the Reagon years. They survived the Clinton years *grin*...and as you say, we will survive the GWB years.

You're probably right.

I'm concerned that there doesn't seem to be a center anymore; we'll keep flip-flopping from one extreme to another. On the other hand, people have pointed out that an election forces a continuum of political opinion into a binary choice.
