I'm getting tired of reading self-published books on Amazon that really, really need an editor. I suppose that there is a business opportunity there, but most writers probably think that their prose is perfect and doesn't need editing. Any ideas on how I could market myself as an editor for self-published books?

A while back, I watched a bunch of videos by a guy who minimized his living expenses by living on a boat so he could focus on becoming a 'writer'. The videos about life on a small boat were fascinating. Plus the guy has a really upbeat, quirky character so I thought I'd check out some of his writing....... oh my..... oh my. I couldn't imagine any editor not telling him - 'don't give up the day job'.

But hey..... the guy was living out his dream. Perhaps he will never sell more than a few dozen copies of his books, but he seems much happier than most.

It's hard to tell sometimes that a book is self-published because the authors are savvy enough to get a decent cover. It is pretty easy to tell whether it's been edited or not once I start reading! Apparently they've never learned that an editor is a writer's friend.
