Wow. The printer was delivered. That was fast. I ordered it on Wednesday!

Zara came in, jumped on my shoulders, jumped on my computer, and left. The joys of working from home....

The Shepherd's Pie was delicious. I need to keep an eye out for it at Aldi.

I've got the new printer set up. I really like it. It has a cheery light near the paper drawer when it's turned on. I haven't tried the duplexing feature yet though.

I read an interesting article, "Can Workers Climb the Career Ladder From Outside the Office?". They can at our place. My new boss to be and my current boss are remote. I have never met my current boss in person. (Well, I might have met her years ago, but not since I started this job.)

Oops. I threw the styrofoam that came with the printer into its box, and Zara came flying out. I should have figured that she would be in the box. I threw out the styrofoam but kept the box for her. I gave the girls flea meds so I'm persona non grata. They'll be even more unhappy when I take them to the vet tomorrow.

I hung up the map of Germany, except one corner is refusing to stick. Interesting. Things are not where I expect them to be (although I had the same experience when I put up the map of Italy).

I think that I'll start doing my nightly routine (dishes, cats' water and dry food, scoop litter boxes, put out clothes) because tomorrow I'll be wrangling cats.

Now they're saying a wintry mix and snow combination on Thursday. I need to get back to the grocery store today (I get paid today.) Now they're saying 3 to 5 inches of snow. I rescheduled my vet appointment on Friday to the following week to have more time to dig out. I'm trying to decide whether to have my mower guy dig me out or not.

I bought a commercial-grade mop and bucket on eBay. I hope that will keep me from scrubbing on my hands and knees. Booked my next two German lessons and paid my Italian teacher. Bought three books on Berlin.

I talked to Mom, who had an appointment with her oncologist yesterday. Her hemoglobin is too low again to get chemo. Her doctor is going to do a bone-marrow biopsy on Friday to find out why her body isn't making enough red blood cells. She also had another transfusion today.

Got my teeth cleaned at the dentist. And the rain started. Mailed a letter. Went to Dollar Tree, Aldi, and Walmart.

The cats were unhappy with me when I got home because they hadn't been fed yet. Dropped everything and remedied that. I exist to serve :) Now I'm sitting for a moment before I put the groceries away (done).

I'm tired, and the skating is tomorrow morning, so I'm going to go to sleep early.

Oh good. After the men's skating tonight, there isn't any skating until the 12th. I need to get a lot done in the meantime.

I studied a little German before I went back to bed.

You can order anything online. I was going to send my mom a check for some money that I borrowed, but couldn't find my stamps. I ordered stamps online to be shipped to me. They're year-of-the-tiger stamps, which should be fun. I'll be happy when I get to Champaign and have a post office that's open later and with self-service machines.

I'm saving boxes for my move next summer, and one had crinkly paper in it. Mimi is having a great time playing with the paper.

I looked into apartments in Berlin out of curiosity, and wow. Expensive. How can anyone afford to live there? Though the apartments that you can get to from English-language sites are pricey. I wonder if there's a Craigslist for Berlin? Yes. And it has some more reasonable apartments.

I'm going to stay home tonight except for getting the mail. And I'll get stuff done when I'm not watching skating. Which reminds me I need to do laundry. I wound up watching the snowboarding.

Got the mail, and now I have all three German books (yay). It's sleeting out. Started laundry.

I missed the very beginning of the skating because they started it earlier than they said that they were going to, but I saw Nathan Chen win gold. I might watch the interview with him after the news, but what can he say besides, "I'm glad I won and I'm glad it's over."

I looked into tuition waivers for the possible iCAN program, and apparently the system is smart enough to know that I'm an employee. Good to know. Also, retirees are eligible for tuition waivers, but they don't allow second bachelor's degrees. Too bad. I'd major in Italian when I retire. I think I could take Italian classes though.

Had a headache at noon, so I lay down during lunch.

Two of the three German books are in my mailbox. I'll run get them later.

I think that I've found the place where I'd like to stay when I spend a year in Italy: Genova (Genoa). It's on the water. It's only a 1.5 hour train ride from Milan (and you can get to anywhere in Europe from Milan). It's also close to Nice, France. And there's Genovese pesto!

I also have a bunch of books on Berlin wishlisted on Amazon.

The headache came back, so I slept until 2 AM. So much for getting things done. It must be headache day because two of my colleagues left early with headaches. My boss said that the barometric pressure was going down. My eyes are all puffy.

My getting up at 2 AM confused the cats. You were asleep and now you're awake, so it must be feeding time, right? I told Zara that if she ate now, she won't eat her breakfast, but she is not convinced.

And it's snowing again. It's been so quiet, and I realized that there are no trains or cars.

I got an idea for an article, "What I've learned from studying foreign languages". Now I need to figure out what I've learned!

I priced flights from Chicago to Berlin and Munich to Chicago. Not too expensive. (I'd take the train from Berlin to Munich.)

I got Culture Smart Italy and Culture Smart Germany on Chirp. I also looked at The Plant-Based Solution, but it has recipes, so I bought a print copy used on Amazon.

Still snowing when I woke up. Still really quiet. The cats are curled up in round balls. They do not approve of this weather. I kind of agree.

I know on what I want to write an article in LinkedIn (I typed KinkedIn, which is the alternative site :)) but I need to ask my colleague because it's based on a meeting that she ran. She said okay. Okay, I learned how to write an article on LinkedIn. It's very similar to Medium.

I have another goal: teaching a class on library systems administration (or about library systems) at Library Juice Academy. I don't have enough experience yet, but I'll keep that in mind as a goal.

It just occurred to me that after I get my programming certificate, I could write an inventory tool that works with our library system. The possibilities are endless!

The snow has stopped. Now to wait for my mower guy to dig me out....

I bought a poster map of Germany. I learned a lot of Italy's geography by having a map above my computer. And I requested a trial lesson from the German teacher, eep!

There's a lot of discussion about the future of LJ given its Russian state owners. I'm on Dreamwidth as days_unfolding also. Feel free to add me.

Hmm. I'm running out of steam due to my weird sleep schedule last night. I think that I'll go to bed early tonight, although not quite yet so that I don't wake up at 2 AM again. I should make some Italian flash cards and clean the bathroom. Or do some decluttering.

I did do some decluttering. But I turned the Olympics on to see what was going on and learned that the team men's short program skating was on, so I watched. Nathan Chen turned out an incredible performance. Then I watched mogul(?) skiing, which I've never seen before. Then they had the team ice dancing, which was great fun. (If I could skate, I'd like to do ice dancing, but you probably need to be an extrovert :)) Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue also pulled off an impressive performance. Now they say that there's more skating after the news. So much for getting to sleep early. The news said to stay off of the roads. You think?

I have an appointment for tomorrow to get my car's headlight fixed. Yay.

The uni has a free series of webinars on financial planning, so I signed up. Can't hurt and might help.

I was mulling over adding a trip to Germany onto my bucket list. (Like I need another trip on my list!) I'd like to see Berlin, Munich, and Heidelberg. During World War II, my dad was in a camp for displaced persons near Munich. When I was in high school, he talked about taking a trip with me there, but I freaked because of the Nazi thing and most of my friends were Jewish. But my LJ German friends are cool! I asked him if he wanted to go there now, but he said that it would be too much trouble. Whatever that means. I ordered some library books about Berlin, Munich, and Germany.

I looked at a Rick Steve's tour of Germany, but it is mainly pretty castles, and I kind of want to sit with my mixed emotions and tour the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin and a concentration camp as well as "pretty castles".

That led me to learning German, but whoa, I need to pull myself back. I'd need to study more Italian first before adding something else. (Although German would be a good companion to Italian because it's very different.) What can I say. I love languages. Maybe I could just play with German on Doulingo for the time being.

Hmm. They're predicting a winter storm from Tuesday night through Thursday night with snow up to 8 inches. I wonder if I should cancel the appointment to take the girls to the vet on Friday. (I moved it back a week.) I might not be dug out. I also wonder if I should ask my mower guy to clear the snow.

Took a nap and slept through until morning.
