Goals?

Apparently, some parts of Lincoln have lost power. I haven't thus far. The roads are a mess. It looks like there's ice on my car.

I'm mulling over goals for the coming year, although I won't do serious planning until I get my planning books.

  1. Learn and grow in my new job. Of course.
  2. Save money for a move/emergency fund. I need to figure out how much I can sock away each month.
  3. Create a budget.
  4. Start learning Italian again with a new teacher.
  5. Exercise.
  6. Do I want to lose weight?
  7. Declutter and hire a cleaning service for every other week.
  8. Classes.

I'm wondering if I could squeeze in a trip to Oregon to see Eugene and Salem in the fall. I guess that it all hinges on the vaccination schedules. Airfares are pricey right now.

I installed TrueBill, and I'm going through and cancelling subscriptions. A good way to start the year.

The power just went out and turned back on. Yikes.

My stomach is upset, so I'm lying down. Mimi is taking shameless advantage of my proximity.

While lying in bed, I brought a refurbished cassette-CD boombox and some Nightingale-Conant programs on CD.

I ordered How to Manage Your Home Without Losing Your Mind and The Four Tendencies (how you react to expectations--I'm a rebel who resists both internal and external expectations). I also joined the Habit Share app, but I don't have anyone to share progress with.

I'm yawning, so I want to roll with it and go to sleep early. I'll have to get up early next week.

Seattle is still the cheapest trip that I could take.

I did do some work with the High Performance Habits book. The only thing is that each habit really deserves work over time before adding another habit. So I'm going to concentrate on the first habit ("Seek clarity"), although the second ("Generate energy") was my lowest score, which doesn't surprise me. Maybe I should add going to the gym to my list of goals because that will help.

I did clean the carpets and they look good. For now. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Harlee's meds will work. And I took a shower.

I started another book about motivational hacks. I'll see if it's worthwhile. "Eh" so far.

I've got the yawns. Already? I'm feeling so tired. Maybe I should go to sleep. I want to get up early and work on the kitchen before work. Maybe turning on an audiobook will keep me from taking a nap after breakfast.

Rebel Rebel

When I first started working with the life coach, he asked me to take a quiz to find out how I met expectations. An Upholder meets external and internal expectations. A Questioner meets internal, but not external, expectations. An Obliger meets external, but not internal, expectations. A Rebel meets neither external not internal expectations.

I got Rebel. The not meeting internal expectations is the reason I hired the life coach, so that wasn't a surprise. But whether I meet external expectations depends on the situation. When I was a tech writer, I worked extreme hours to keep from letting anyone else down. Since my illness, I really struggle to keep myself motivated and get things done, but I think that they would be shocked to hear that at work because I work hard and get a lot done. And I enjoy my job, which helps.

I'm learning that sometimes I just have to make myself do things to get things done. Sometimes I get on a roll, which is great, but tonight, I had to force myself to spend an hour working on the kitchen. And I really had to force myself because I couldn't have felt less motivated. But I did it.

I'm going to stay home tomorrow and continue to work on it. I had thought about going to a state park near Bloomington that I'd like to check out. It has a lake, including a beach for swimming, picnic tables, and hiking trails. As well, one of my goals is to get out in nature more. However, I think that you need to be a little obsessive to really get things done. What I really should do is use goofing off at the park as a reward for getting the kitchen organized. (I'm making progress!)
