Today was the first time that I met an LJer IRL. Stopped by
bookfoole's bookstore, and had a great time chatting with him about how he got into the business and about LJ, poking around his store, etc. It's a very nice store; much nicer than the used bookstores in San Jose, which tend to be kind of seedy.
Now I want to open a used bookstore after I relocate-;)
I'm amused that the first time that I met an LJer was in Detroit. It's cool, though, to be able to picture his shop when he appends from it now.

All shops are stores, but not all stores are shops. I don't think a store that is owned by a big corporation can be called a shop, no matter how small it is. I think it has to do with atmosphere, etc.
It may be symantic --part of the reason my shop is a shop is that I always refer to it as a shop : )
