Harlee isn't doing well. I think that I'll have to call the vet on Monday and make an appointment to have her put to sleep. I don't even know what to say. It's hard.

No, now she got up and came into the kitchen and is drinking water. Don't know what to do.

I think that she might have had a stroke. She's having some problems walking.

She's not eating.

I tried to take a nap, but my brain keeps whirring about Harlee. I guess that I'll wake up and make my grocery list, although I think that it does Harlee good to have me lying near her for a while.

I heated up some baby food, and she ate a tiny bit of it, but she clearly doesn't have an appetite.

She's been snoozing on the bed most of the time.
days_unfolding: (Default)
Harlee came into the bedroom when I went to bed and settled in. This time, she was farther down the bed near my legs, so I wasn't worried about rolling over on her. We slept together well. She seems happy to be snuggling with Mommy.

Mimi, on the other hand, is very stressed that she isn't getting her nighttime snuggle time with Mommy. I need to spend some time with her on my lap this weekend.

Made it in to relieve the front desk worker. It's very quiet in here, not surprisingly.

Harlee doesn't seem to be feeling well. I need to give her her subcutaneous fluids when I get home. She won't like it, but it should help. She's still happily snoozing on my bed though.

Mimi and Zara seem to be calming down a bit, although they're still not in their normal places.

I have work piling up, so I'm going to bring home some e-mails that I need to write. I might stop in during the weekend to scan some receipts for my Flexible Spending Account too.

I gave Harlee her fluids. She was a good girl, although I'm sure getting the fluids is uncomfortable. Now she's napping. My poor baby.

Now I need to eat, feed the girls, and make a grocery list. I thought about going to the store tonight, but I want to go to Aldi's as well as Walmart, so I'd need to go out tomorrow anyway. Plus I need to figure out what I need to make my tomato-basil quiches. Tomatoes, for one thing. The tomatoes on my tomato plant aren't ripe yet, but it keeps on starting new tomatoes.

Mimi's getting some lap time.

Someone's shooting off fireworks again. Sigh. Because the 4th was mid-week, does that mean that there has to be a week-long celebration?
days_unfolding: (Default)
Harlee has decided that my bed is her bed. We're still working this out  :) Mimi's nose is out of joint because usually she sleeps with me, but she won't share the bed with Harlee. Oh, the drama.

Having a rare bout of insomnia. I think that it's because I forgot to take my nighttime meds. Also, Harlee is lying right next to me, and I'm worried about rolling over and squishing her. Mimi likes to lie in a similar spot, but Mimi is huge and rugged. Harlee is old and frail. I tried to relocate her to the foot of the bed, but she wants this spot instead. "Never try to outstubborn a cat." -- Heinlein. I finally was too restless, and she got up and wandered off. Then she came back. I woke up on the other side of her from where I went to sleep. Not sure how that happened, but Harlee wasn't squished.

All the cats slept in different spots: Harlee on the bed (Mimi's spot), Zara on the futon (Harlee's spot), and Mimi on the cat tree. Harlee had ventured out of the bedroom when I came home for dinner.

The zipper on my purse has given up the ghost. I was looking at other purses, but the purse itself is okay; I just need a fastener. So I'm looking at "sew-in" purse clasps. I'll need to get more than I need, but it's still cheaper than buying a new purse. Frugal!

I picked up Laura Ingalls Wilder's autobiography, Pioneer Girl, from the library. It's her complete autobiography, including incidents that she thought might be too upsetting for the Little House books. Should be interesting.

I read an article about how New York City has lost its soul due to international investors who don't live in New York. So, me being me, I looked into a trip to New York in December sometime. I'd like to take the train (although flying might be cheaper?), but Amtrak's site has been weirding out, so I can't find out how much it costs. I figured out what was wrong, and if I wanted a roomette, it would cost a ridiculous amount of money. I think that sleeping in a coach seat would be the way to go. I can sleep pretty well on public transportation. There are surprisingly cheap Airbnb's in New York.

Speaking of travel, I booked my train travel to and from my mom's house.

I need to get up earlish to cover the front desk worker's lunch. It'll just be him and me tomorrow.

I'm reading some Kindle books about RVing. One (Secrets of RVing on Social Security) gives some ideas how to do it cheaply.  (The trick is to "boondock," stay at a free campsite, most of the time and stay at an RV park only when you need to dump sewage, do laundry, etc.)

Harlee has been snuggling with me before I go to sleep. The trick is to get her to leave when I go to sleep because she lies on me. She's so light, though, that I probably could fall asleep with her lying on me.

The weather forecasters have a heat advisory today, so I think that I'll skip the fireworks and stay in air-conditioned comfort.

The college has a carillon that plays at noon and 6 PM. You can hear it from my place.

I've been wondering why it's so quiet. No trains thus far.

Mimi and I are battling for possession of MY chair in the kitchen. As soon as I get up, she lies down on it.

Had some corn dogs and frozen yogurt. Zara magically appeared when I took out the frozen yogurt. Zara, who usually is silent, put her paws on my shoulder and went, "Purrrt?" I let her have a little bit.

Trying to convince myself to get a few things done around here.

We're having a few problems with fleas. (Damned if I know where they come from.) I treated Harlee with flea meds, and that went okay. Mimi was in the same room, and I turned to her, and she took off like a bat out of hell. Come on, it's not THAT bad. I'm washing bedding now. And reading about RVs. I'm learning a lot about them.

Okay, gave Mimi her flea meds, although I had to chase her and hold her down. Got Zara when she was preoccupied with the frozen yogurt container. (Greed. Sometimes we forget how well it works.)

After reading my RV books (well, I'm in the middle of a third one), I know what kind of RV I'm interested in. Either a small travel trailer or a class B+ motorhome. A class B+ is partway between a van (class B) and a motorhome (class C). What I really should do is find out when there will be an RV show in the area or Chicago. Some are scheduled in March.

I've got the last batch of Harlee's bedding in the wash, and I sprayed her area with flea spray. The trick will be getting her off of my bed and into hers.

I'm going to take a shower when the washer is done with its rinse cycle. Then maybe I'll watch an Anthony Bourdain. No one is going to be sleeping with fireworks going off.

Someone contacted me last night and wants to buy my Sodastream. We made a plan to meet this afternoon.

I woke up around 7:30 AM. Mimi went "Hm?" when I got up, but I told her to go back to sleep. Harlee and Zara are still asleep. No, now everyone's awake, but I'm getting a "Go back to sleep" vibe from them.

I'm feeling better today than yesterday (so far, anyways).

Went back to sleep for a while. Got up at noon.

The Sodastream person pushed the time to meet out until 4:30, so I need to figure what to do until then. I took a nap :)

Sold the Sodastream. There's a little extra cash and one less thing cluttering my place.

There's a "severe thunderstorm watch," but it looks like it might go past us again. There's thunder in the area though, and Zara, who freaked out about the fireworks last night, is sleeping right through it. It didn't miss us this time. I got caught outside and got drenched.

Took a nap. At least I should be well-rested when I go back to work tomorrow.

Got a start on cleaning the kitchen, but I have a ways to go.
days_unfolding: (Default)
Woke up at 6 AM, and couldn't fall back asleep, so I'm making breakfast. It's early enough that two of of three cats are asleep. (The awake one is Mimi, who follows me around and tends to be awake when I'm awake and sleep when I'm asleep.) The boil order for water was lifted yesterday afternoon, so I made some delicious coffee.

Went back to sleep and woke up around 1PM. At that point, Harlee got fed up with me sleeping and started meowing. Fed the hungry girls. I'm making Ramen and coffee. Feeling low energy, so I think that I'll read a little. I might watch an Anthony Bourdain on NetFlix.

I'm feeling achy. Took some acetaminophen. Dozed a little. Read for a while. Got up and folded laundry and gathered some clothes to go out. Felt dizzy, so I sat down and read some more.

Finally got myself together and ran out. When I came back, a pair of yellow eyes were staring out the window at me. I told Zara that was a little creepy. Z's been snuggling on my lap periodically. It's good to be loved :)

Ate some soup. Lay down for a nap until Mimi decided to lie on my butt. Thanks, Mimi.

Someone was setting off fireworks, and the cats highly disapproved and hid :(

Mom is doing well. The fawn that was hanging out in her yard left. My aunt and uncle are doing reasonably well. The physical therapy at the hospital seems to have helped him and he's going up and down stairs better. Mom is thinking of going to Chicago to see them sometime in August.

I don't feel like eating fettuccine, so I think that I'll just have some bread with jam and call it a night.

The New York Times ran an article about "The Glamorous Grandmas of Instagram". I've set a new goal to be that glamorous. I'd need to lose weight though. It's not one of my top goals right now though. I'm concentrating on my finances. I installed Instagram on my phone to follow the "Glamorous Grandmas" for inspiration, but I'm getting a network error logging in.

It was a three-ring cat circus this morning. Harlee was meowing (so what else is new?) Mimi was snapping the rubber band on the dry food. (I rescued it.) Zara was in position to get her wet food, but I wasn't ready to feed her yet.

Zara has been training me where she wants to be fed. She used to want to be fed in the living room. Now she wants to be fed in a corner of the kitchen. It always amazes me how creatures without a common vocabulary can make their preferences known.

I got something in the mail for "2018 Death Benefit and Free Wal-Mart Gift Card". Lovely. That reminds me, one of my coworkers said that Facebook was making him feel old because it's been 15 years since <some movie that I've never heard of>. I said, "Facebook thinks you're old--I get ads for life insurance!" He laughed.

I lay down after breakfast to take a nap. I was rubbing Mimi's belly for a while, but then decided that she was getting overstimulated, and I rolled over to take a nap. Well, Mimi was having none of that. First, she walked on me. Then, she lay down on my hands and was licking my hands and face. I closed my eyes to pretend that I was asleep. Then she patted my face. I finally pulled my hands out from under her, and she got offended and stalked off to the other side of the bed.
days_unfolding: (Default)
Sometimes I think that Harlee is messing with me. She'll meow loudly, and I'll go sit with her. She'll sit with me for a moment and calm down, and then she'll walk away. Sometimes I wonder if she wants to see what she can make me do. Goof :)

The stock market and economy news is kind of hilarious. There's going to be a recession. No there won't. Stocks are going to continue to go up. No they won't. I wish someone would say, "We don't know exactly what's going to happen."

Bloomsberg had an article about how stock market swings can produce physical symptoms in investors; apparently there was a study that showed that. The article then said to keep in mind what you can and cannot control. The list of things you can't control started out serious and relevant, but progressed to "the quality of the new Star Wars movie," and got even sillier at the end. I would have liked to share it on Facebook, but they don't enable sharing. It's my last free article of the month, alas. Irreverence goes far with me.

My skin is itching like crazy. Sometimes handling old books, which I'm doing a lot of, will trigger eczema on my hands, but this is all over. Don't know what's going on. Interestingly, it seems to be going away now that I'm home. Maybe I'm allergic to the lack of cat dander :)

Zara made more progress in forgiving me. She stood on the back of my chair while I was eating ravioli with alfredo sauce, although I think that she was more interested in the alfredo sauce than me. Mimi and Zara have been having some squabbles which is, unfortunately, normal. (I told them to quit it.)

I did go to bed early. Read a little of an investing book, but I don't like it as well as the other book that I read. The other book said that the hardest part of investing is "sitting on your ass" while the market gyrates. Word.

Got up early. Finished my grocery list.

Harlee cracks me up. She ate some of her food, ate some of Mimi's leftover food as a second course, and then went back to eating her food.

I have Bloomberg's app on my phone, and it has really interesting articles. They've using it to get people to subscribe to their periodical, but I can't afford it. Actually, I can get it for the Kindle at $5 a month. It might be worth it. It's cheaper than a lot of similar magazines. That reminds me--we get the Wall Street Journal at work, so I should skim it for free.  And I can get The Economist for free on my Kindle through the public library. Awesome.

When I got out of the shower, Zara promptly hid behind the dryer. "If Mommy smells like soap, she must be up to no good." Poor Z. It's going to take a while before she recovers from her ordeal.  She did rub against my hand when I was home for dinner though.

Went to Aldi before work, and got the majority of the items on my list. I had to put some sour cream and shredded cheese in the mini-fridge at work though.

I'm hoping that the heat wave ends today. We had a heat warning all weekend into today. Walking outside is like walking into a sauna.  The only good thing about it is that it feels delicious when you come into air conditioning from the heat. Right now, it's 93 F and humid (heat index of 108). I've been wanting to turn off Harlee's ceiling fan at night to save some energy, but yesterday, I didn't. It was 90 F at 10:00 PM.

The car dealer at which I bought my Kia Soul sent me a note telling me that I can get a new Kia at the same payments that I currently have. Yeah, right. I almost have it paid off (which, no doubt, is why they want me to get a new car) and I keep my cars until they fall apart.

I cleaned out part of the refrigerator over dinner and put out the garbage and recycling.

I bought some frozen brussels sprouts tonight, not realizing that I already have some in the freezer. I guess that I'm going to have a brussels sprouts party.

It's kind of too hot to cook, but I should at least microwave something.

Slept a good long time. The girls look more well-rested and calmer too. Zara's in the window. Gave Mom a quick call to tell her 23andme was having a sale on DNA kits (she wants to do one), but she already got one from Ancestry.com.

I'm lying down to take a nap, and Harlee is complaining. Yes, things are back to normal. Really zonked out. Decided not to go to Aldi's because I just woke up from the nap and I'm hungry. Need to make a list though.

My tomato has blossoms!

Zara is blissfully asleep. She looks like a little angel. Hard to believe that she's the same cat who flipped out yesterday.

Went to change a light bulb, but it broke off in the socket. Bother. Folded laundry.

Got my new cable modem/router set up.  Connected to WiFi from my phone, netbook, and Roku. Cool beans.

I'm feeling shaky tired, so I think that I'll feed the girls and go to bed. Harlee wants some attention though.

Compared prices on Chewy.com and Amazon for cat supplies, and the prices are exactly the same, except for cat litter. Amazon has ridiculous prices for cat litter, but I'm happy to get it at Walmart. So Amazon wins because I get free shipping from Prime with no minimum. Not that Prime is free....

The cats don't trust me. Harlee was walking by, and I ran my hand down her back to give her a pet, and she took off.
days_unfolding: (Default)
We made it through the long wait this afternoon. Harlee and Mimi were somewhat philosophical and settled down in the carriers, although Harlee meowed periodically. Zara was growling (poor baby). I read most of a book. Finally, I went back and aired out the place, and took the girls home.

I had told the guy who was to turn the gas back on that I had problems getting one of my cats in the carrier, and asked him to come at 8 PM instead of 7:30. He came at 20 to 8 (sigh). I didn't get a chance to clean up after the bug carnage yet, but he didn't seem to care. He got the stove pilot lights lit okay, but had problems getting the hot water heater to light. He finally figured out that he forgot to turn the gas on for the water heater. He got it lit, and everything is working fine.

I cleaned up, and ate a hot dog to tide me over while I talked to Mom.

Mom sounds really good. She's really looking forward to seeing me at the end of July. She's wondering if she should come to Chicago and visit my aunt. I asked her if she was up for it, and she said that she hasn't said anything about coming to Chicago to anyone except me at this point.

My aunt had a rough time after she first got out of the hospital. She had a bad urinary tract infection. She's feeling better now, and her friends are coming by and keeping her company. My uncle is still in the hospital.

After I talked to Mom, I made some delicious tortellini, and I have leftovers, which I froze.

Zara and Harlee have been zonked out (not surprised). Mimi is waiting for me to go to bed, which will be soon because I'm exhausted.

Pried myself out of bed early.

The guy arrived on time and shut off the gas. I ran into a small snag in that two out of three cats hid because the guy was here. I decided to make myself something to eat and wait them out. Zara has just emerged.

I grabbed Zara with a small towel, but she flailed when I was putting her in the carrier, and she got away. I chased her for a while, but then she hid at the side of the dryer near the back, I decided to get the other two--who are much easier to get into the carriers--and drop them off at work. I dropped them off and put signs on their carriers saying that they were my cats and that I was coming back. Then I went back home.

I finished my preparations for fogging. Then I sat down and talked to Zara for a while, who was still in the same spot, but she went farther behind the washer. I used a plastic snow shovel to get her out of there, and she ran through the house, and wound up in the bedroom, and I shut the gate. I used a bigger towel to try to get her in the carrier, but she was flailing around, and scratched the inside of my nose (which bled like crazy), and she got away. She hid behind the cat tree. I lay down on the bed and talked to her for a long time until she calmed down. I then tried to throw a blanket over her, but she went behind my wicker chest. I pushed the chest in, and she went into the closet. I got the blanket thrown over her and got her good and tangled in the blanket, and finally got her in the carrier. Whew.

I put her outside and set off the foggers.

Now we're all at work, where it's nice and cool and air conditioned. Harlee is meowing loudly, which isn't a surprise. Mimi is trying to convince me to let her out of the carrier, but no dice. There's too many places to hide in here, and I didn't bring a litter box. They'll be unhappy, but fine. They've spent a longer time in carriers when I moved them from Michigan.

Oy.

OMG--Zara apparently got a couple of spots on my scalp, and there was dry blood down the side of my face, which I just cleaned off. She got her licks in.

days_unfolding: (Default)
I'm not feeling well this morning, so I sent a text message to the person who's going to turn off my gas asking to postpone until tomorrow, but haven't heard back yet. It would also give me more time to get organized. I just heard back from him, and he said that tomorrow was fine, so I'm going back to bed for a while.

One good thing about Kate Spade's and Anthony Bourdain's suicides is that the suicide prevention hotlines are getting plastered all over the Internet. I hope that it helps someone.

Harlee has informed me that I need to sit with her before I go lie down. She's the boss :)

Awake after some bizarre dreams. Feeling shaky. Want to wake myself up, make some pancakes, and then do some stuff around here.

I have a flattish basket on the top of one of the kitchen shelves. Zara thinks that it is the best kitty bed ever, and she spends most of her time up there, only coming down to eat or sniff my food.

Some pancakes and coffee later, I'm feeling at little better.

I think that I want to make the contrarian move of getting some Europe ETF shares first because things are volatile in Europe right now. Buy low; sell high. I'm also waiting on a market correction in the US, although that would also hurt me because I have some money in a TIAA-CREF account (education's version of a 401K). But I think that the correction will come whether we like it or not.

Anyone know of a good English-language source of Asia-Pacific news? I suppose that I should look for an Australian newspaper. Hmm, I found the Australian Financial Review, but its international news is mostly about...Trump. Though the G7 summit has a lot to do with it. The search continues, although I should at least skim the Australian paper regularly to learn more about Australia. Okay, found some English-language Japan news. Oh, that's good. It has news on Singapore and South Korea too.

Last night, I gave Harlee her subcutaneous fluids. She was a good girl. Well, except for hanging onto her bed for dear life when I picked her up.

I looked at refurbished laptops on eBay, and also found some for $100. They're from established sellers though, which might be the way to go.

Mimi went from my lap to the table. Me, repeatedly: "Mimi, off the table." She ignored me. Then I touched her, and said, "Off." She went, "Oh, you mean me," and got off of the table. Who do you think that I was talking to, Mimi?

I looked into taking MegaBus to Detroit, but it's slightly more expensive than driving, I'd have to overnight in Chicago unless I take the later bus, and my mom would have to pick me up. (I'd have time to work on stuff on the bus though.)  It was worth a look though. The train is more expensive. The place where I normally get gas en route to Chicago has some of the most expensive gas in the area.

I'm investigating tuna casserole recipes.

Mom Report

May. 26th, 2018 10:15 pm

Mom is still doing well. Her lab numbers are getting close to the normal range. She's been working in the garden for five hours a day, so her energy is up. She's talking about coming to Illinois sometime this year, but I told her to take it as it comes. She's glad to hear that Harlee is doing well.

Harlee was complaining that I was talking (she assumed to her), but wasn't coming over to pet her. Mom heard Harlee's complaints, which made Mom laugh.

I read an article that said that sleeping in on the weekend can help you live longer. I did my part. Woke up at the normal time for work, but decided that I wanted to go back to sleep for a little while. I was having an intense dream, so I slept a lot longer than I intended. The girls were hungry. First Mimi and then Zara ate some dry food. Then Zara tried to "bury" it. Goof :)

I'm making a second cup of coffee to jumpstart myself into cleaning. Hmm, I added an extra "e" into coffee at first. COFFEEEEEE! First, I have to sit with Her Royal Highness, who is complaining. Or maybe she's doing vocal exercises. I've always said that she's the opera singer of cats.

Done with the kitchen except for washing the floor. I'm taking a short break. The person with the "one hour cleaning" (I've already blown that) said to vacuum the floor. Well, that person does not have cats because the vacuum didn't do a good job of picking up kitty litter and dry cat food. I swept the floor.

The Tightwad Gazette has convinced me to wash out plastic freezer bags. Why not. I used to save used aluminum foil, but I don't really have a place to put it in this house. I need to work on my grocery price book sometime this weekend. I started making a list of things that I buy regularly for the book.

Made pancakes, my weekend treat.

Mixed reviews on using the carpet cleaner to wash floors. The squeegee kept falling off. It does a nice job of scrubbing, but it leaves dirty water on the floor. I needed to go over it with a towel to pick up the dirty water. However, the whole process was a lot faster than cleaning the floor manually. It's taking a long time to dry and it isn't looking great. Someone is selling a used steam mop for $20 on Mercari, so I might get it and see if it cleans better.

I cleaned the bathroom. I did the floor by hand. One thing that I did was to apply cleaning solution to the spots where Harlee made messes and let them soak. It helped.

I found, to my dismay, that although the chest freezer was on, everything in there had thawed. I turned it off and on, and it made a noise like it was turning on. I hope that it's not broken. I had intended to have frozen pizza, but am making Aldi's Parmesan Pasta (a Pastaroni ripoff) instead. I'm too tired to make anything more complicated.

Figured out how much to put in my TIAA-CREF account (it's like a 401K for educators) after I finish funding my flexible spending account. My TIAA-CREF is a time-targeted fund, and I'm also going to fund a Roth IRA that uses an ETF. Still need more money to save though. Ordered some books on side hustles.

Mimi was hanging around the dry food dish in the kitchen, meowing. I filled the dish, and she ate a few bites and walked away. My talking to Mimi woke Harlee up, and now she's meowing. I swear it's like a zoo in here sometimes. A noisy zoo.

My new glasses are in. Cool beans. I picked them up, and they are awesome! Everything looks very bright and sharp. The photochromatic lenses seem to work well too. Worth the money! Why, oh why, though, do service providers provide receipts in which it's hard to tell what I actually paid? I can't be the only person with a flexible health spending account.

The official grades for my Javascript class aren't up yet, but I should have gotten an A.

I brought some of my stuff in, and left the car unlocked, planning to go right back out and grab my library books. I completely forgot about it, and my car has been sitting unlocked this whole time. At least I remembered it before I went to sleep.

I forgot to mention that I was cleaning the carpet in the living room, and the carpet cleaner was loud with an annoying high-pitched whine. Harlee was lying very still in her bed with her head dangling over the edge. For a moment, I feared the worst, but I walked over to her, and she popped her head up.

Is Harlee going deaf? I can't believe that she could doze while the carpet cleaning was going otherwise. On the other hand, I can call her from my bedroom when she's meowing in the hall, and she'll come in.

Sunday Off

May. 20th, 2018 09:58 pm
days_unfolding: (Default)
I get Sunday off because I'm working Monday-Friday next week. Cool beans.

I've been playing around with the weather averages for US cities. Portland is slightly more gloomy, wet, and humid than Chicago, but not by a whole heck of a lot. I like that Portland gets 3.3 days of snow :) The weather stats for San Jose also showed that San Jose has perfect weather. I always thought so. Oh well.

I had planned to set up the drying rack outside, but a storm is on the way. I need to wash the stuff that was going to go on the rack, so I guess that it goes in the dryer. At least my plants will get a good soaking. They're all growing well.

Took a nap. It looked like the storm missed us, but the weather forecasters are still predicting rain overnight.

I think that Harlee gets stuck in meow mode. She was five feet from me and meowing loudly. I said, "Harlee, come here, I'll pet you". No, she wanted to stare at me and meow. Whatever floats your boat, Harlee.

Finished pretreating the carpet (although I missed a couple of spots), assembled the new carpet cleaner, and cleaned the carpets. The new carpet cleaner doesn't seem to suck up dirty water very well either.

Made some frozen turkey and stuffing bake in the microwave. It's quite good, and I have lots of leftovers even though I stuffed myself.

I want to go to sleep early, get up early, and do some stuff before work.

Harlee threw up during the wedding, which sent me running towards her. She's still vocal, but I need to be sure to give her her fluids today. She did eat her food. Mimi threw up her dry food, but that's because she ate it too quickly.

1 AM in Britain. I wonder if Harry and Meghan's party is still going on :) I think that it's cute that Meghan's dog hitched a ride up to Windsor with the Queen. Apparently Meghan didn't want to leave him down in London for the day. I read an interview with Prince Harry in which he said that he figured that he had a few years before all the attention would be on William's kids, and he wanted to make an impact for charity until then. Good for him.

Having a kind of quiet day. I've got laundry going and did some dishes. Watered the outside plants. Considering trying to switch out the DVD cable and seeing if that fixes the color and, if it works, watching something after I take care of Harlee. It feels like a pizza night. Scrubbed a litter box.

Got some fluids into Harlee. I tried to get the tubing more vertical, and then the needle came out. I'm getting better at it though. Harlee is not pleased when I do it, but I'm not surprised. She's looking alert though, so maybe it helped her.

I have the shakes, so I'm making my pizza.

The DVD player is still giving me a black-and-white picture with the new cable, so something's wrong with the DVD player. Need to replace it eventually. I wonder if someone is selling one on Facebook or the thrift shop has one. None on Facebook. Apparently they don't make DVD/VCR combos anymore, so the only ones are used. There's some on eBay, but I can watch movies in black and white for the time being. After all, people did that for years. It got late, so I just watched an episode of Victoria.

Checked out public transportation to Portland from Vancouver, WA, and there are buses that run during the week, but not on the weekend. There is some talk about extending light rail to Vancouver, but it hasn't happened yet.

I think that I'll fold some laundry and do some pretreating of the carpet, and toddle off to bed.
