Hmm. I'm wondering if they'll have self-driving RV's by the time that I retire. That would rock.

Got up early because of my mammogram appointment. Got the mammogram done. They got me out of there quickly.

Our preparation for the semester starting is wrapping up at work. Classes start on Monday. I built my display for the front lobby, which was the last thing that I needed to do this week.

TGIF. I'm tired.

Bands of freshman are out roaming the streets. They're not doing anything except being noisy, but I can see why some of the neighbors don't like the college. This gives me sympathy for the people in Champaign-Urbana, where I went to school. That school has thousands of students.

I was worried about Zara not coming down off of the cat tree to drink water, so I put the water on top of my dresser. She drank a lot and looks better. Now she's lurking like a vulture on top of the dresser.

I slept 9.5 hours, which helped. Zara was deeply asleep when I got up, which I was glad to see. Maybe she's starting to relax.

Mimi keeps trying to chew my glasses. I told her that the glasses were a lot more expensive than she was.

Zara seems much better. She made a fuss over me when I went to fill her food and water. Good to see. And she's lounging.

Mimi and I are battling over the kitchen chair. (The other one has stuff piled on it.)

I just felt a cat rub against my leg, and no one was there.

Another way that I'm trying to be frugal is by cutting the cosmetic wipes that I use to clean off my makeup in half. It seems to be working okay.

My Roth IRA and Acorns accounts are accumulating money. Good to see.

I'm looking for books on being a snowbird (one possibility would be to live in Champaign-Urbana and snowbird during the winter, although that would mean dealing with Central Illinois' humid summers), but no one has written a book about it. Maybe I should do it and write one.

Found an RV park that I'd like to go to: a park in Panama City Florida that's across from the beach and has a dog park. Its monthly rate is a little pricey, but oh, does it sound heavenly.

Still had some problems falling asleep and still really tired. Hanging on by my fingernails until the weekend.

I was assuming that if I got an RV travel trailer, I'd need an SUV to tow it. But then I thought that I'd really like a pink truck to piss people off. (This thought was inspired by a turquoise truck that I saw today, which I liked.) Pink trucks are hard to find though. However, I did see some listings for purple trucks though, which would be okay. So if you see a purple truck towing a travel trailer, wave. Or give me a Bronx cheer.

More seriously, I was looking at the Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road because I'd probably be camping in National or State Parks at least some of the time and parking in dirt. Toyota does have a bright blue color that isn't too bad. Hmm, do they make trucks that have a back seat? I'd probably have at least one cat, and I would want a dog if I was gallivanting off by myself. Okay, apparently they make trucks with an extended cab.

I think that I want a truck and a "fifth-wheel" trailer. A fifth wheel is hitched to a special kind of hitch in the bed of the truck, and they usually have a overhang over the bed of the truck. They are supposed to be more stable to tow than a travel trailer, easier to back up, and they'd be harder to steal because you need the special hitch. The only thing is that they tend to be large, and I want a small one.

All the kids are out of the cave in Thailand. Awesome!

I almost ate dinner out because I didn't feel like cooking, not even soup. Then I remembered that I have mini-pizzas. Toss it into the microwave and done. Easy to eat. I think that I'll get some more for this week. I'm trying to be good to myself (although not good for myself). I'm trying to not eat out because I'll need to buy food on the train to Michigan at the end of the month.

I was more productive today, so that was good.

I'm reading some Kindle books about RVing. One (Secrets of RVing on Social Security) gives some ideas how to do it cheaply.  (The trick is to "boondock," stay at a free campsite, most of the time and stay at an RV park only when you need to dump sewage, do laundry, etc.)

Harlee has been snuggling with me before I go to sleep. The trick is to get her to leave when I go to sleep because she lies on me. She's so light, though, that I probably could fall asleep with her lying on me.

The weather forecasters have a heat advisory today, so I think that I'll skip the fireworks and stay in air-conditioned comfort.

The college has a carillon that plays at noon and 6 PM. You can hear it from my place.

I've been wondering why it's so quiet. No trains thus far.

Mimi and I are battling for possession of MY chair in the kitchen. As soon as I get up, she lies down on it.

Had some corn dogs and frozen yogurt. Zara magically appeared when I took out the frozen yogurt. Zara, who usually is silent, put her paws on my shoulder and went, "Purrrt?" I let her have a little bit.

Trying to convince myself to get a few things done around here.

We're having a few problems with fleas. (Damned if I know where they come from.) I treated Harlee with flea meds, and that went okay. Mimi was in the same room, and I turned to her, and she took off like a bat out of hell. Come on, it's not THAT bad. I'm washing bedding now. And reading about RVs. I'm learning a lot about them.

Okay, gave Mimi her flea meds, although I had to chase her and hold her down. Got Zara when she was preoccupied with the frozen yogurt container. (Greed. Sometimes we forget how well it works.)

After reading my RV books (well, I'm in the middle of a third one), I know what kind of RV I'm interested in. Either a small travel trailer or a class B+ motorhome. A class B+ is partway between a van (class B) and a motorhome (class C). What I really should do is find out when there will be an RV show in the area or Chicago. Some are scheduled in March.

I've got the last batch of Harlee's bedding in the wash, and I sprayed her area with flea spray. The trick will be getting her off of my bed and into hers.

I'm going to take a shower when the washer is done with its rinse cycle. Then maybe I'll watch an Anthony Bourdain. No one is going to be sleeping with fireworks going off.

Aaargh. I had told my boss that we needed to buy more books to use up our budget, but he wanted to wait in case we needed something. Now we have two more weeks in the fiscal year (actually less for credit card orders), and we have at least $6000 to spend. Maybe more if a payment for some software didn't go through. The only good thing is that I can buy some books that I wanted to get.

I sent the mentoring form that we need to fill out to my new mentor, and haven't heard back from him. I hope that he's okay.

Got a bunch of library books in about macroeconomics, international investing, and emerging economies. A little light reading.

Another RV that interests me: Nest by Airstream.

I have a box of frozen salmon burgers that I should eat. I'm looking into creamy dill sauce, and found a recipe that I like. It would sacrifice a lot of the dill though, but on the other hand, I'm not keeping it as a pet :)

RV?

I really want to take some time off. I'm really burnt out, and need some down time. I have three weeks of vacation accrued, but I know that I can't take vacation until July. And I won't be able to take more than a week. I did okay my week off (at the end of July) with my boss. My boss will be off next week.

I think part of the reason that I've been in such a dark mood is because I forgot to take my meds this morning.

My dad is currently reading about macroeconomics, and he recommended a set of books to me.

I was pondering joining the local UCC church to meet people. However, I'd rather go to an Unitarian church, but there isn't one in town. However, the Unitarian church that I'm the most interested in has a 10:00 AM service with coffee afterward. The local UCC church has coffee at 9:15 AM with a 10:00 service. So I'd be leaving the house at the same time anyway. The Unitarian church, though, isn't offering its usual services during the summer. So I need to make plans for the fall.

I was looking into whether living in an RV would save me money. However, there are no deeded lots in the area, and I don't think that I could handle putting in a septic system or doing without one. There is a mobile home park in Decatur that allows RVs, but I think that they charge rent. Not to mention, I don't know how Zara and Mimi would get along in an RV. (I wouldn't even think about doing anything like that while Harlee is alive.)

However, I think that I would like an RV when I'm ready to retire. Drive the RV around to places that I'm interested in retiring in and try them out. Then buy a house at the place that I choose, and park the RV on the property, and rent it out as an Airbnb. It would keep some money coming in. I'd have to empty the septic tank periodically, but that would be a good excuse for a road trip.

Question: what do you call a truck that has a built-in, permanent cover over the back like an SUV? I'm googling "covered truck," but not getting what I'm looking for.

Okay, there are SUVs that can tow a small RV trailer.
