I forgot to mention that I asked my dad for a recommendation for a macroeconomics book. I want to understand what's going on with the economy better. I bought a couple cheaply from Thriftbooks.

Overslept a little and got up at 6:30 AM. I heard the recycling truck while I was out with Bella. Got my leaf bags out, which was the important part, but I won’t get the rest of the recycling out. I’m going back to sleep for a little while.

Got us all fed. I have to watch Oliver and Lily eat because a certain dog will snatch their food if I'm not watching. Zara is behind a door, so she's okay.

I was wondering why Oliver and Lily like to run around upstairs so much, but then it occurred to me that the dog isn't there to chase them.

A grant awarded to the organization for which I work from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) was canceled. Trump's cuts have reached my work. Sigh. It won't impact our staffing though, just a program that we were going to lead.

My therapy session went well. My therapist said to wait a week or two to see if the tiredness wears off, and contact my psychiatrist if it doesn't. She also said that I don't need to work at coming up with as much stuff to talk about as I did this time (the cruise, Mimi, and the car)! I said that I hoped it would be totally boring with nothing to talk about!

I was feeling pretty good about myself, but then I made a dumb mistake at work. I don't handle that well.

I got a free issue of The Week, or rather my mom did, and I read it cover to cover. I think that I want to resubscribe to it. I’m also thinking of subscribing to The Economist. I’m sorry to say that US and world events are very interesting right now. Hmm, I might be able to get an academic discount for The Economist.

Bella wants me to follow her around the yard. She’ll stop and wait and stare at me if I’m slow (which is always because she’s a young dog and I’m an old human). I got out the collar and leash to take her for a walk tonight, and she got so excited and cooperated when I put the collar on. It’s a vast improvement from when I had to chase her through the house to get her harness on and when she’d freeze on a leash when I first got her. It was nice to walk in twilight. And most of the dog walkers were already gone. I’m not sure what she’d do if we met another dog. Hide behind me?

Had my quality time with Zara. Practiced piano. Zara was chirping at the piano for a couple of minutes and then sat and listened.

I’m going to go upstairs and practice Italian. My trip-to-be is motivating me. I studied Italian until my brain went into vaporlock. I'm tired.

I'm going to post, feed the critters, and crash.

Pried myself out of bed a little after 11 AM.

Hmm. I'm feeling a little queasy. The weather forecasters had been predicting rain, but now they're saying rain tomorrow. I guess that I'll eat breakfast and then decide whether to drive to Springfield.

Food has helped, but I'm going to lie down for a little while.

Mimi was looking at a spot on the refrigerator and meowing. I got up and looked, but there was nothing there. Ha ha, made you look!

Napped. Threw myself together.

Hmm. It's clouding up, and the radar is showing a storm west of Springfield. I could drive to Bloomington instead. That's what I'll do.

Dumped my soda all over the place before I left and couldn't find the lid to my glass. Eventually found it and took off like a bat out of hell.

Made it to the bank, where they activated my debit card. Apparently I must have entered the wrong PIN number.

Had an Impossible Whopper at Burger King to try it. It was pretty good. Plant-based "meat " is getting better and better.

Went to Aldi when I got back to Lincoln. Picked up some pesto and some other stuff. Picked up Zara's prescription at Walmart. Picked up soda and other stuff at Dollar Tree. Now I'm toast and need a nap.

New magazines du jour: Fortune and Conde Nast Traveler. Now I need the life to match my magazines.

Just checked whether Walmart does grocery pickup on Sunday. Yes, it does. Good because I want to stay home tomorrow and stay out of the rain. Now they're saying no rain tomorrow. I can't keep up.

Dorian is now a Cat 4 hurricane. Maybe I should rethink this living in Florida business. But Seattle has earthquakes. I think that I'd prefer hurricanes because you at least get some warning. Annapolis has lots of smog advisories.

I lay down, but decided to get up. Decisive, aren't I? I used the blue light of the computer to wake up. I was going to transfer funds to my new checking account to pay bills, only to find that they would transfer it on Wednesday, which is too late for my purposes. I have a transfer set up for next month, and then I'll be able to set up automatic payments. Paid my bills from my deposit account.

Now they're saying rain from Saturday night to Sunday morning. I guess that I'll get my grocery order together tonight, but not submit it, and look at the projected weather in the morning and then decide on a pickup time. I'm sure that I'm making this too complicated :)

Okay, I did my "shopping" on Walmart Grocery and Amazon. Time to go to bed and read.

Woke up around 10:30 AM. It looks like it rained last night.

Fed us all. Now, it's nap time.

Had a nice nap. Right now, I'm sitting on the bed and facing the closet, and I'm thinking that I should work on the closet so that I can build the shoe rack and put it in there. I'm kind of a fan of working on what calls you in a given moment, but cleaning the kitchen never calls to me, so I need to fit that in!

Mimi called me from the kitchen. I exist to serve, so I came out from the bedroom. She jumped on my lap for a few minutes, but it apparently wasn't lap time. I guess that I'll eat lunch.

Finished the salad while Zara played a fun game of "I really want your food, Mommy".

Decided to throw myself together and run a couple of errands. While I was out, I did Shopkicks at Walgreens and CVS, which were nearby. I got some scans at Walgreens, but CVS was a bust.

I'm starting to get the $2 a subscription or free magazines. I just received Time and Bloomberg Businessweek. Awesome.

Had some Ramen because the leftover salad didn't fill me up. Zara had to give it the obligatory sniff. Now she's bonking me and rooting around in my hair. Um, Zara....

Tackled the bedroom closet again. Then Mimi came in and wanted to lie on me, so I went and got Bloomberg Businessweek and lay down on my bed. Cats, interrupting productivity for millennia.

By the way, Bloomberg Businessweek is excellent.

Cleared off the floor of the closet, and swept and scrubbed the floor. I'm going to let it dry while I talk to Mom, and then put stuff back and put together the shoe rack. I put away some towels and sheets. I'll get my bedroom together yet :)

Talked to Mom. She's been collapsing after her trip. She might have a friend stay with her in September, however, so she wants to get her energy back to clean.

Finished the floor of the closet and put together the shoe rack. Now I'm running out of steam, so I think that I'll go to bed soon and get up early to work on the bedroom some more.

Got the first draft of the logo for my mental health blog, and I love it! I'll post the final one when I get it.

The fruits of my labor:

You couldn't see the floor in there before.

The shoe rack. I have some missing shoes though. I need to figure out where they went.

Slept lateish, but made it in a little early. Ran out to have my teeth cleaned at the dentist during the afternoon.

I wanted to run by the vet to get flea meds, but a faculty member is still in the library, and I usually lock up after her. Oh well. She left at 10 to 5 PM, and I'm not going to jam over to the vet.

I'm really craving a roast-beef sandwich. I usually don't eat out, but I think that I will today. I did, and the sandwich was good.

I ordered a bunch of free or $2 subscriptions to magazines, including magazines about Seattle, Portland, Washington DC, and Charlotte. I want to get my hands on one for Orlando, but it looks like I'd have to pay full price, and I don't want to pay full price. It did say there's a way to download an issue into a digital reader, so I'll check that out. I can get it for half-price on an eReader, but I can't enter an e-mail address to set up an account. That sucks. No, I got it working. It's advertising a trip to Michigan to get out of the humidity. LOL.

I was poking around looking at journals of people who have vanished from LJ, and apparently, [profile] rillifane passed away three years ago. I'm not sure which is stranger, LJ people passing away or people just vanishing.

Paid a bunch of bills. Submitted my Walmart Grocery order. It's time for bed.

Quiet Day

Not sure if I mentioned that I'm asking for a spiralizer for Christmas. It turns veggies into a noodle shape as a substitute for pasta. I'm excited about it!

I got my issue of Hawai'i magazine yesterday, and flipped through it last night. I'm glad that I subscribed to it, although I think that its real purpose is to advertise stuff in Hawaii. The articles are good though.

Kitty Drama this morning. Zara was on top of the dresser, and I put down their dry food. Mimi wanted the food, and they got into a spat. Sigh. Mimi likes my days off, though, because she gets more lap time.

Apparently there was a brush fire in Lahaina, Hawaii (on Maui) that caused some evacuation. I hope that the damage was minimal. I love Lahaina.

Damn, brick-and-mortar retail isn't doing well. Not planning on investing in it. I want to do research on hearing aid stocks, although it seems that a lot of companies are private or overseas. I found some other companies that I want to look into.

The public library has free audio books for checkout. One is on dog training. I need to figure out how to get it on my phone. I did, but most of their audio books are novels. I put a hold on a couple of audio books though.

Did laundry. Took a nap. Started cleaning the kitchen.

It pays to shop my freezer. I found some frozen asparagus risotto that I didn't realize that I had. It was good. And it had veggies in it!

On the docket: a little more cleaning and homework.

I did go to bed early. Read a little of an investing book, but I don't like it as well as the other book that I read. The other book said that the hardest part of investing is "sitting on your ass" while the market gyrates. Word.

Got up early. Finished my grocery list.

Harlee cracks me up. She ate some of her food, ate some of Mimi's leftover food as a second course, and then went back to eating her food.

I have Bloomberg's app on my phone, and it has really interesting articles. They've using it to get people to subscribe to their periodical, but I can't afford it. Actually, I can get it for the Kindle at $5 a month. It might be worth it. It's cheaper than a lot of similar magazines. That reminds me--we get the Wall Street Journal at work, so I should skim it for free.  And I can get The Economist for free on my Kindle through the public library. Awesome.

When I got out of the shower, Zara promptly hid behind the dryer. "If Mommy smells like soap, she must be up to no good." Poor Z. It's going to take a while before she recovers from her ordeal.  She did rub against my hand when I was home for dinner though.

Went to Aldi before work, and got the majority of the items on my list. I had to put some sour cream and shredded cheese in the mini-fridge at work though.

I'm hoping that the heat wave ends today. We had a heat warning all weekend into today. Walking outside is like walking into a sauna.  The only good thing about it is that it feels delicious when you come into air conditioning from the heat. Right now, it's 93 F and humid (heat index of 108). I've been wanting to turn off Harlee's ceiling fan at night to save some energy, but yesterday, I didn't. It was 90 F at 10:00 PM.

The car dealer at which I bought my Kia Soul sent me a note telling me that I can get a new Kia at the same payments that I currently have. Yeah, right. I almost have it paid off (which, no doubt, is why they want me to get a new car) and I keep my cars until they fall apart.

I cleaned out part of the refrigerator over dinner and put out the garbage and recycling.

I bought some frozen brussels sprouts tonight, not realizing that I already have some in the freezer. I guess that I'm going to have a brussels sprouts party.

It's kind of too hot to cook, but I should at least microwave something.
