Signed up for two Perl classes on Udemy and started working on them. I also ordered a used Perl book and got it.

Went to Aldi, got Zara's meds at Walmart, and picked up my grocery order at Walmart. Bought soda and body wash at Dollar Tree. Unloaded the car, and now I'm chilling. I don't dare turn on the Olympics because I'll get sucked in, and I have stuff to do tonight. Oh, and I bought a pineapple at Aldi, so I'm watching videos how to cut one up. I know that it won't be as good as fresh pineapple in Hawaii, but I love pineapple.

Put groceries away. Lay down for a nap (so much for getting stuff done) and slept through until morning.

I was feeling shaky and headachy and tired, so I emailed in sick after an hour of work. Two of my colleagues sent me emails saying that they hoped that I would feel better. They are so nice. And then I lay down. Napped for a couple of hours and got up for my knitting class.

The knitting class was an exercise in frustration. And my low frustration tolerance came in to play. The teacher had me dump what I had done and start over. Actually, I started over a couple of times. Then I got a couple of rows of decent knitting. Then she taught me to purl, and I had a really tough time learning that. If I see someone do something, I often can't replicate it. But I started to get the hang of purling near the end. My end result had some visible mistakes, but it looked more like what you expect knitting to look like than the last time. She wants me to practice for a couple of weeks and then send her an email, and she'll set up another session.

Had some lunch and got orange juice drippings all over me. Started getting a headache again, so I decided to skip piano class. Took another nap.

I was looking for another book on how to deal with low frustration tolerance and found another cognitive-behavioral therapy book. Got it for the Kindle.

Woke up and lounged in bed for a while, only to find Zara staring at me, telling me she's hungry. I told her to give me ten more minutes.

I'm starting on my grocery list for tomorrow and am trying to figure out what to make the rest of the week. Maybe peanut butter chicken? I need to thaw chicken breasts then.

Found a book with some knitting patterns for dishcloths that I'd like to try. I also found a yarn shop in Champaign that has a knitting group that meets on Saturdays.

Watched a ton of the Olympics: men's high bar gymnastics, track and field, women's balance beam gymnastics, and men's springboard diving. So much for the evening :) Oh, and they showed the UK platform diver knitting in the stands. I've seen some of what he's made and he's really good :)

Put a litter box on to soak. Submitted a grocery pickup for tomorrow. I'm really thirsty, so I'm going to go drink some water. And get to bed early. I need to pick up Zara's meds tomorrow as well as the groceries.

Stayed up too late and then couldn't fall asleep. I got up and ate some oatmeal, which did the trick as it usually does. I drink soy milk, and Google says that soy milk is rich in L-tryptophan, so maybe that's it.

Olympics: Jade Carey won the gold for her floor exercise routine. Apparently Simone Biles being out was the best thing that could happen for the rest of the team. Simone Biles is going to do the balance beam final though.

I'm already changing some work-related goals in my list of goals. But at least, I'm thinking about them. (My boss discussed my cross-training with one of the programmers on another team, but he writes scripts in Perl. So I need to learn Perl.)

Sigh. I wanted to watch the gymnastics, but NBC kept on showing other events first. They have a thing for beach volleyball. So I wound up watching two hours of television, which wasn't on my to-do list. I can see how some people just cocoon and watch TV in the evening. It's relaxing. Hmm. I'm wondering what that means for piano class tomorrow. I guess that they'll show the gymnastics later, although there will be a lot of interest because Simone Biles will be in it.

I have the link to the equestrian eventing and show jumping, but it's 5 hours long. No.

Now I'm doing triage on what I need to do. The top things are practice piano and finish the knitting for class tomorrow. Hmm. I'm getting impatient with my knitting, probably because I have a deadline. Completed two rows of lumpy, bumpy knitting and I'm done. Now I'm taking a break to post and then I'll practice piano.

Hmm. I've cleaned off the table, and it's only 12:15 AM. Maybe I'll work on my psych workbooks. It seems a little late to exercise. Did a Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) exercise. Watched the women's springboard diving final.

Ugh. Got up on time for Italian, but my stomach is upset.

No Italian. I was the only student who showed up. My teacher is going to get confirmation from the others for next week. Anyway, that gives me time for a nap. Maybe after I have some Ramen.

I've discovered that I can pay bills from my phone. Excellent.

Had a nice nap. Got the garbage out and watered the garden. I have a small pea plant growing and the beans are blooming. Some lettuce is starting to come up. I was going to plant carrots, but I got the shakes, and I decided to eat something.

My voice lesson went well. My teacher is good at pulling out good performances from me, even if she spent the first 20 minutes ranting about someone who was putting down opera. (She's an opera singer.)

NBC isn't rebroadcasting the gymnastics, so I guess that I'll go out and plant carrots (done). I bought some new bags for the potatoes; the ones that I previously got on eBay were tiny. This time I checked how many gallons they were.

Then they broadcasted the gymnastics, and I watched most of it with Mimi climbing on me. ("That's a perfect lap position from Mimi, but watch out for the dismount.")

Ran out to get food! And money for the mower guy. I'm set for part of the upcoming week anyway. I need to do laundry. I'm trying to figure out what else to do while it's going.

I was tired, so I started setting goals for the month and week. And I got involved in it, so I forgot to put my laundry in the dryer when I was done. Oops. I might have to go to sleep while it's still drying. I think that my goal setting will be useful though.

I looked into swim classes for the fall (if they are on the right day for me), but they aren't up on the Web yet.

I bought the audiobook for Think Confident Be Confident because I want to listen to it while I clean this weekend.

Stayed up and watched the women's springboard diving. Very cool.

Got up lateish. I'm trying to figure out what I did with my yoga mat so that I could try yoga later. (Found it, but I also need to clear off the table for the laptop. It's always something.) And maybe some Pilates.

Checked to see if there was a Yoga or Tai Chi class in Champaign on Tuesday nights, but there was nothing that works for me. Ah well. I can wait until I move.

Zara keeps finding places where I piled up clothes and is using them as a kitty bed :)

Had a nice nap. Just realized that I forgot to get lettuce and lunchmeat, so I need to go to the store. Took another nap because I felt tired. Decided to go to the store tomorrow. Showered and shaved my legs. One step closer to going to the local pool. Brought in some boxes of junk to sort through.

Talked to Mom. She's doing well, and she's thrilled about all the good news about my job.

Hmm. I'm mulling over just going to sleep, but the diving is on at 1 AM. Sleep seems to be winning.

I need to go to the store to get food because realistically, I won't grill until the weekend. Soup would do. I'm trying to decide whether to go after work or take a nap and go later. If I go earlier, I could watch swimming. But I'm tired. I want to stay home tomorrow to watch the women's gymnastics. My life is revolving around the Olympics right now.

Speaking of exercise, I'm thinking that I should get back to exercising regularly. The Olympics are inspiring me :) I need to dig out my dumbbells and do some weight training. I need to find my weight training over 40+ book (done). There's been some studies saying that weight training can help you lose weight as well as aerobic exercise. I also have the pass to a gym in Lincoln, so I need to go over there and see if I can get a code to go there. My knee has been bothering me, and I need to do exercises to strengthen the muscles around it. I used to have steps to use; did I get rid of them? Someone is selling one in Bloomington. Hmm, my health insurance is having a challenge to add one new exercise to your fitness every day. Do I want to join that?

Ran out and got soda and some food at Dollar Tree and dashed back to watch the Olympics. I can't remember a year when I've gotten so into it. Lots of great swimming races. I also did my knee exercises (or at least the ones that I can do it home). One of them kind of hurt, so I think that I've injured my knee a little. It has a sore spot. I also tried to do exercises with resistance bands only to find that they are a little long for me.

It's gotten late.

My Italian teacher first said that we were having class tomorrow, but then he canceled. We haven't had class for a month, but it gives me more time to study. I got some Kindle books in Italian to start building vocabulary.

Oh good. Now they're saying no rain, so I can grill.

Mimi still hasn't figured out that I give Zara three times as much wet food than I give to Mimi because Zara is very skinny and Mimi is chunky. Mimi eats dry food too though.

Dad sent his usual fire update. The wind has shifted and the fire has spread along the state line. People in the southern end of the valley are without power, but they get their power from the north.

I've decided that I want to to get boxes from storage to go through, so I'll grill tomorrow because it's gotten late.

Watched some of the Olympic surfing on my phone while I ate.

Ran and got a box and some plastic drawers from storage. Picked up some food for dinner. Started a load of laundry. Cleared out one of my lettuce beds. I'll plant lettuce there tomorrow. And I forgot to water, so back out I go (done).

Watched some of the men's gymnastics.

Talked to Mom. She's been very tired and collapsing. She said that the front yard looks like she hadn't done any work on it, which is discouraging. She said that it would be fine if I came to visit around her birthday in September. That would give her time to get things together.

I'm really getting into the Olympics. I watched the men's skateboarding. Some of the tricks that they can do are impressive.

days_unfolding: (Default)
Took a nap. Sat in the kitchen to wake up, and then Zara took a nap on my lap. She woke up a little while ago and got off of my lap.

I'm feeling grateful for having food. I was reading a post on Facebook on what people were eating when they were poor, and, by comparison, I have lots of food.

I logged onto my computer to see what's in "Tuna Surprise". I found a recipe that I want to try. I also looked at a Shepherd's Pie recipe. I'm making a frozen pizza though. Also want to make some blueberry quick bread. Or lemon poppyseed bread.

Why was "Sunny Massage Spa" calling me? I'm assuming that was a wrong number.

Ate my pizza in front of the TV with the Olympics on mute, trying to calm down Harlee, who was complaining. I was watching some curling, going,"Wow, those people are good". Um, they're in the Olympics, so yes.

Trying to decide whether to do homework, or just feed the cats and go to sleep. Sleep appears to be winning.

Watched an interview with Adam Rippon. He is such a trip. I was wondering how he gets his eyebrows so perfect. (Apparently he has them dyed. It works.)

Harlee was complaining again, so I sat with her and watched some of the bobsledding. I thought that it looked like fun until they showed a cam view from the front of the bobsled, and my stomach did flipflops just watching it. I'd probably throw up if I tried it, which would lose a certain sense of style. Plus the other people in the bobsled wouldn't be thrilled.
days_unfolding: (Default)
Had problems falling asleep because my hand hurt. Overslept, but that was okay because today was my late day.

Harlee: I'M NOT HAPPY. I'M LONELY. I WANT MY MOMMY! I spent some quality time with her, and she settled down.

I went to the doctor today about my hand. They told me to do "a walk-in" (urgent care). The nurse practitioner said that my hand was swollen near my thumb. I couldn't tell. They gave me some x-rays. The nurse practitioner thought that I had a hairline fracture, but the radiologist didn't think so. They wrapped my hand up, and gave me a prescription for a splint. Luckily, I was able to get the splint in Lincoln; they thought that I'd have to go to Springfield. I need to keep the splint on for a week. It does make my hand feel better. But it makes typing a bitch.

Missed most of the skating. Oh well. I hate that NBC will stop broadcasting if there aren't any more US skaters to go, and no US skaters will medal. I think skating is cool to watch, no matter who's doing it.
days_unfolding: (Default)
Always a good day when I get to spend $500 on books. For the library, that is. I want to read some of the books myself, but will give others first crack at them.

And hey, the garbage disposal people left a recycling bin! A rare sighting in Central Illinois.

I signed up for frequent flyer programs for American (flight out to Austin) and United (flight back). I was hoping to get free checked luggage, but you have to have a certain number of points first. Oh well. I stupidly put my middle initial instead of my middle name on the United account, though, and they won't let me change it without a signed and notarized affidavit, so I need to call them and cancel the account, and start over.

They're predicting the dreaded "wintry mix" (a.k.a ICE) tonight after midnight. I was wondering if I should go get some cat food tonight or tomorrow night, and I guess that settled that. I'm not close to out of cat food, but need more to make it to the end of the month.

Also, there's ice skating tomorrow night, so I want to go straight home.

I was reading about the health benefits of a sauna. If I do the $25 fitness thing from Blue Cross Blue Shield, I'd have access to an L.A. Fitness gym in Springfield with a sauna. And a pool! I'm planning to join a Toastmasters club two Fridays a month in Springfield after I get past the cost of boarding the cats while I'm in Austin. I could go to the gym afterward. They also have a Zumba class on Fridays that I'd also like to try.

My left hand is really bothering me, so I want to get it checked out on Friday.

Okay Day

Overslept, but still made it over to the vet before work to pick up Harlee's meds and make an appointment to board them while I'm in Austin. Harlee's meds cost less than I had feared, which was a pleasant surprise.

I'm getting a lot done at work. My boss kept on handing books to me that had issues in our system. He apologized that he 'kept on throwing books at me," and I said that as long as he literally wasn't throwing books at me, that was fine.

I'm feeling like I have less and less to say.

Convinced my computer to show me some of the ice dancing. Way to go, #shibsibs!
days_unfolding: (Default)
Woke up just before my alarm. I was falling asleep in my chair though, so I went back to sleep for an hour, and slept almost two. Feel more well-rested though. The sun is out, which helps.

Managed to make coffee without putting the coffee in though. Hot water, milk, and Splenda actually tastes pretty good. I drank it down and made a proper cup of coffee because caffeine.

I also managed to accidentally throw our my partial (Apparently it fell into the trash can while I was cleaning, and I emptied the trash can into a bag. Luckily, I hadn't taken the bag out yet) and start my shower with no towels. Yikes.

Work was okay though.

I reinjured my left wrist lifting a heavy bag. Now I'm wondering if I should have it x-rayed.

I did get to see some of the ice dancing though. Love it.
days_unfolding: (Default)
I cleaned some of the kitchen. Tuned my new guitar. Then I watched the men's free skate, and pretreated the carpet during the commercials. I'm trying to watch the end of the free skate online, but I can't get the stream to play. Oh well.

Need to do some homework. Listed some stuff for sale on some local Facebook groups instead. Need to go to sleep soon to get up early to get Harlee's meds from the vet.
days_unfolding: (Default)
Woke up around 11:30. I must of slept on my left hand in a weird way because it hurt when I got up. Mimi was being manic. Zara was being snuggly.

Fed myself and the hordes. Harlee ate a little of her food, and then promptly ate some of Zara's leftover food. Sigh. Now she's eating Mimi and Zara's dry food.

Took a nap and overslept. Guess that I'm caught up on my sleep.

I was thinking about how city-centric certain professions are. Yesterday, I was reading an article about how to get a job as a junior Web developer. Among other things, it said to participate in a hackathon, and "most cities have one". What if you don't currently live in a city though? They do have one at the U of Illinois though. And one in Boston that's open to women only.

I'm staying home today, and probably will spend the day in my pajamas. TMI? Mostly, I'll be cleaning, but want to see if there's any figure skating on tonight. Yep, men's free skate at 7 PM.

I forgot that I was supposed to come in late to work on Thursday because they're giving us an extra hour off, so I guess that I'll come in late on Sunday.

Called the vet about Harlee. She wants to keep her on the same meds, but taper her off.
days_unfolding: (Default)
I stayed up late last night watching a video stream of ice skating. Glad that I watched it though. Still woke up to my alarm. Zara was being snuggly this morning.

Still ouchy. Damn. The ice has melted though. I didn't need to get the salt. Oh well. (I'm keeping it in my car because it isn't the kind that's safe for pets.)

An audiobook that I've been listening to recommends doing things as slowly as possible, and the author said that you will find that you're actually doing things faster. I've been trying to do that when I remember to. I don't know if I was doing things faster, but I was more accurate the first time, which I suppose would make things faster. Interesting.

I got another prescription for Zara to replace the one that's missing. Because I'm paying for it rather than insurance paying for it, they had no problem with me filling it early.

It's hard to believe that I'll be going to Austin in 2.5 weeks. Yikes. But because I'm not presenting there, all I need to do is get my carcass on a plane and to my hotel (and, of course, to the conference center). I'm looking for cheap things to do during the evenings. And cheap places to eat. I was there once before, but I was looking at Austin as a place to live, so I didn't do a lot of touristy stuff. Hmm, I should find my LJ entries from that trip.

Mom Report

Feb. 10th, 2018 11:12 pm

I pretreated the carpet. I'm planning to wash it with the carpet cleaner before work tomorrow. I think that I've unclogged the carpet cleaner. Scrubbed litter boxes and the kitchen floor.

Mom is still very tired and is sleeping a lot. She's been snowed in because of the big storm, and couldn't make it to her chemo session yesterday. She's been having nosebleeds, which worries me. She's going to see her oncologist on Tuesday. She also saw her primary care physician earlier in the week. Her doctor thinks that some digestive issues that she's having are due to a food sensitivity. So mom's keeping a food log.

I had the chicken, rice, and mashed cauliflower for dinner, and it was pretty good. I had hoped to watch the ice skating online, but I've been having problems getting it to stream. I'll try again in their "post-show" event at 11:30 PM. If that doesn't work, I give up. Also, I couldn't get the Bluetooth transmitter, which I plugged into the TV, to pair with my headphones.

It is getting a little icy tonight. My car is coated in ice. I'll see how the weather is tomorrow.
