I drastically overslept. I was sleeping with my bad ear up, which wasn't helping. So I had a mad scramble to get ready. The front desk worker was out sick, which wasn't helping the situation.

I knocked over a glass of diet soda at work, the same thing that I did to my computer, but I didn't get the computer this time. Sigh. I can't wait until I get the hand brace off. I made my boss laugh though. After we cleaned up the mess, I said that I was going to the back to see what other trouble I can get into.

A very helpful person told me where I can park long-term in Normal near the train/bus station for free. Cool beans. It'll make the trip much easier. I now have my tickets and schedule printed. (I always print two copies of everything. Paranoid much?)

I also read a bunch of articles on packing light because I don't want to check luggage.

The brace for my thumb seems to be pulling my hand, and now my tendinitis has flared up with a vengeance. Ow, ow, ow. I took the brace off, and have been clutching a bottle of ice-cold water to ice my hand. I think that I want to go to sleep right after I eat and let me hand relax.

Well, Hell

My computer is dead as a doornail. I spilled water on it last night, and now it won't boot, and even won't show that it's plugged in. Damn it. I have a netbook that I can use for some stuff, but I'll need to do homework on my work computer. I won't be able to replace the computer until April because I need to pay for boarding the cats while I'm in Austin. There are some good deals on eBay though. UBid seems to have stopped selling computers. I fell in love with a purple HP laptop on Amazon, but it has only a 32 GB hard drive, and I can fill up 32 GB on a phone. I've been looking at business laptops, which have more room to grow.

Ty ping is a r oyal pain wi th my brace on.

The World Figure Skating Championships are being held in Montréal in 2020. I'd really like to go. I've wanted to go to Montréal for a long time, and I love figure skating, and have never seen it live. I'll see if I can make it happen. (Note to Self: DO NOT FORGET ABOUT THIS!) They take place at the end of March. I think that I could pull it off for $2000ish. Probably less if I stayed in an Airbnb. Need to brush up on my French.

I also want to watch the World Championships on TV in March. I've got them on my calendar. Must see TV!

Ice skating lessons in April? Yes, I know that I'll never be that good. I'll be happy if I stay vertical.

I didn't get up early even though I went to bed early. I wish that I knew why I've been so tired. Want to stay up for a while and get a few things done.

Had problems falling asleep because my hand hurt. Overslept, but that was okay because today was my late day.

Harlee: I'M NOT HAPPY. I'M LONELY. I WANT MY MOMMY! I spent some quality time with her, and she settled down.

I went to the doctor today about my hand. They told me to do "a walk-in" (urgent care). The nurse practitioner said that my hand was swollen near my thumb. I couldn't tell. They gave me some x-rays. The nurse practitioner thought that I had a hairline fracture, but the radiologist didn't think so. They wrapped my hand up, and gave me a prescription for a splint. Luckily, I was able to get the splint in Lincoln; they thought that I'd have to go to Springfield. I need to keep the splint on for a week. It does make my hand feel better. But it makes typing a bitch.

Missed most of the skating. Oh well. I hate that NBC will stop broadcasting if there aren't any more US skaters to go, and no US skaters will medal. I think skating is cool to watch, no matter who's doing it.

Always a good day when I get to spend $500 on books. For the library, that is. I want to read some of the books myself, but will give others first crack at them.

And hey, the garbage disposal people left a recycling bin! A rare sighting in Central Illinois.

I signed up for frequent flyer programs for American (flight out to Austin) and United (flight back). I was hoping to get free checked luggage, but you have to have a certain number of points first. Oh well. I stupidly put my middle initial instead of my middle name on the United account, though, and they won't let me change it without a signed and notarized affidavit, so I need to call them and cancel the account, and start over.

They're predicting the dreaded "wintry mix" (a.k.a ICE) tonight after midnight. I was wondering if I should go get some cat food tonight or tomorrow night, and I guess that settled that. I'm not close to out of cat food, but need more to make it to the end of the month.

Also, there's ice skating tomorrow night, so I want to go straight home.

I was reading about the health benefits of a sauna. If I do the $25 fitness thing from Blue Cross Blue Shield, I'd have access to an L.A. Fitness gym in Springfield with a sauna. And a pool! I'm planning to join a Toastmasters club two Fridays a month in Springfield after I get past the cost of boarding the cats while I'm in Austin. I could go to the gym afterward. They also have a Zumba class on Fridays that I'd also like to try.

My left hand is really bothering me, so I want to get it checked out on Friday.

Woke up just before my alarm. I was falling asleep in my chair though, so I went back to sleep for an hour, and slept almost two. Feel more well-rested though. The sun is out, which helps.

Managed to make coffee without putting the coffee in though. Hot water, milk, and Splenda actually tastes pretty good. I drank it down and made a proper cup of coffee because caffeine.

I also managed to accidentally throw our my partial (Apparently it fell into the trash can while I was cleaning, and I emptied the trash can into a bag. Luckily, I hadn't taken the bag out yet) and start my shower with no towels. Yikes.

Work was okay though.

I reinjured my left wrist lifting a heavy bag. Now I'm wondering if I should have it x-rayed.

I did get to see some of the ice dancing though. Love it.

Well, at least the sun is out. Maybe that's why I feel more awake than usual.

I brought a misdelivered letter to the neighbors' mailbox, when I slipped and fell on the ice on my sidewalk. Ouch. The side that I landed on has been freaking hurting. I'm wondering how the mail carrier will deliver the mail given the ice, so I need to look for some salt to put on the sidewalk.

Well, the mail carrier managed to deliver my new (to me) acoustic guitar despite the ice. I really like it. It looks and sounds good. I thought that it came with a case, though, but it didn't, so I'm not going to schlep it around until I have a case for it. I want a hardshell case because klutziness, but might have to settle for a padded gig bag for a while. I'm also not going to practice guitar tonight because my fretting hand is ouchy.

I forgot to feed Harlee this morning. Bad Mommy! I gave her the food over dinner, but she turned her nose up at it because it wasn't fresh. She eats more at night anyway.

I can't find Zara's meds. I know that I picked them up on Friday.

Bad Mommy!

I woke up around 9 AM, but kept yawning. So I went back to sleep without setting an alarm, and woke up at 1. The girls, of course, were hungry. While I was spooning out their food, Mimi kept on attacking Zara, so I kept on stopping and breaking the fight up. I don't know why she waits until food is in the offing, unless she thinks that Zara will eat all the food. Mimi did live in the Humane Society for a long time, and they did share a food bowl. I convinced Harlee to eat a little. She eats with more gusto at night.

For some reason, I grabbed my hot grits out of the microwave as soon as it was done cooking. The bowl was hot, and I fumbled it, spilling hot grits on my hands and the floor. I stuck my hands under cold water. I hope that helped because typing will be a bitch if they're burned. Stupid!

Got to get cleaning.... And put chicken breasts in the crockpot.

Oh, and we just had light snow last night and no ice.

I suck. I overslept and got onto my conference call late. Luckily, I think that I heard the important part. I don't know why that I've been oversleeping this week. I've been feeling under the weather.

Harlee won't eat her breakfast unless I put it in the basket that she uses as a bed with her. It's nice to be the Queen. (It just occurred to me that her sense of smell might not be as keen as when she was younger, and that's why I need to put the food right in front of her.) This morning, she was purring in my ear. One bit of good news: she seems to be making it to the litter box or near it, although she still has loose stools. It seems like the meds are working. I don't mind washing the floors more often if I don't have to keep washing the carpet all the time. So that's very good news.

I did a really bad job of describing a problem to our consortium as well today. Want to smack my head against the wall. I think that part of the problem is that I forgot to take my meds this morning. I also think that I'm dehydrated. Zara loves me, though, no matter what. (Although she loves me just a little bit more when I'm eating frozen yogurt.) And believe me, that keeps me going when I want to just give up. (I think that I was dehydrated because I drank some water and feel somewhat better.)

The conference that I want to go to the next academic (fiscal) year is starting to put up some info. It's at Niagara Falls, which should be nice. I just need to know how much registration is to be able to estimate costs.

I was looking at Twitter because that's where I asked about the conference (and asking on Twitter worked!), and noticed that I had said that I wanted to get involved in the Scholars at Risk Action Campaign, but never did. I have to admit that I thought about deleting the tweet, but instead, I'm going to get involved. Better late than never.

The nice guy on the cleaning crew whom I scared earlier in the week and who volunteered to brush the snow off my car then saw me bringing out my guitar tonight. He asked what was in the case, and I told him that it was a guitar, and he thought that was cool. He plays bass and two other instruments. He wished me luck on learning guitar.
