I wound up getting my second wind and staying up late. Plan B is to log onto work at the usual time and work an extra 45 minutes in the evening.

Woke up at 6:30 AM. Took Bella out but decided that I wanted to get another half-hour of sleep, so I brought her in early.

Crazy cats are crazy and are chasing each other.

I'm looking at adult tricycles to use to run errands. There are stores that are not too far away to which I could bike. I found one that I like, and they sell it at a local bike shop, so they could put it together. Not sure how I'd get it home though. I could take side streets.

I got an email for the Amalfi Coast trip. Apparently you can customize where you stay and at what hotels. I don't need four-star accommodations. It sounds promising.

I've decided to grow snapdragons in my back part-sun garden bed. Lowe's has them. I was going to have them delivered, but that will double the cost of them, so I'll go by Lowe's this weekend. Actually, my eye doctor appointment this afternoon is nearby, so I'll pop in afterward.

I've run into a snag. My therapist is changing practices. She wants a LOCAL Emergency Contact Person, and I don't have one. I emailed her asking what to do. I really need to meet more people here. She said that she'll put a note to contact the local EMS if needed.

I'm mulling over volunteering at the local Humane Society. The good news is that I love working with cats; the bad news is that I love cats and don't want to end up with another one. Oliver and Lily get along so well that I don't want to rock the boat. Also, I have volunteered to take my dad and Sue's cat if they no longer can take care of him. He's a real cutie. (BTW, I'm adding the local Humane Society to my will. The proceeds from the sale of my car or cars will go to them. That should buy a lot of cat food.)

The appointment with the psychiatrist went quickly. She’s going to keep me on the increased meds and will see me in three months.

Bella is excited that I left and came back! She is happy! Silly pooch :)

I was wondering if the NokBox has a lock, and apparently there's a spot for a small combination lock. I want to put the logins for my bank accounts in it, but I don't want them available if someone breaks in. So I'll work on my list.

Created my list of bank accounts. It wasn't as bad as I thought last night. And almost finished my list of credit cards. But I need to get myself together for the eye doctor appointment.

The eye doctor appointment ran long. We were waiting a long time for the (virtual) doctor. My prescription didn’t change much and I have it in hand. Bought an expensive pair of glasses.

Went to Lowe’s and cleaned them out of snapdragons. Also bought a fern.

Bella is fussing over me again. So is Oliver, but he wants food.

Fed us all. Took a nap and slept until 1 AM.

Paid my property taxes. The first installment wasn't due until June, but I might as well get it all over with.

Woke up at 7 AM. Took Bella out and took her for a short walk as [personal profile] sunshine_two recommended. She still pooped inside around ten minutes after we came in. I'll try taking her out for an hour tomorrow and see what happens. At least, it'll be the weekend.

I shaved my furry legs and have shorts on. They're very comfortable, although the heat won't hit until later in the day. "Thunderstorms possible" late in the afternoon.

I'm trying to figure out where I want to plant blueberry bushes. Maybe in the front once I get rid of the daylilies overgrowing the garden? Yeah, I think that I’m going to grow blueberries and thornless raspberries in the front “sunny-side” garden bed. And strawberries in the back! I'll get some fruit in me! That answers my question of how many coneflowers to order. I'll order a bunch of plants tonight :)

I enrolled in legal benefits through work because I need to write a will.

Hmm. I started an online class through my health insurance about dealing with depression. It recommended doing new things to try to break through the depression and also getting people on my team to help. That suggests that I should join the Unitarian Church sooner rather than later. (This Sunday won't work though because of my flower arranging class.) And I'm looking into volunteer work. I'd enjoy volunteering at the Humane Society, but I'm worried that I would wind up with another cat. I could volunteer at the library, but I'm already a librarian. Maybe the Forest Preserve? I seem to remember a prairie conservation group? Yes. Being a "bat monitor" sounds interesting. And so does their plant sale.

It's humid as hell. And here comes the storm. There also was an emergency alert about dust storms. I'm glad that I'm staying home.

The summer session of the Dog Training Club will start right after I get back from my business trip in June and end right before I go to Italy. Perfect.

Bella took off with one of my strawberry plants. I finally got it away from her. And I’m giving away my tomato plants because I’m afraid that Bella will eat them. Oh well. I’m waiting for a DoorDash of Italian beef.

The critters were highly interested in my Italian beef. Bella grabbed some and Lily was a little out of control. Bella also grabbed a french fry out of my hand. I ate too much.

I bought plants. I'm thinking of going to bed early and getting up early. Oops, I need to submit a Walmart order first.

I got up around 8:30 AM. The forecasters are predicting freezing rain today, so it's another day spent cocooning.

Oh hell. Now Sunday is supposed to be as cold as Friday was. The parka can't get here fast enough.

Mimi went back to her dish to eat her wet food, but Zara had already eaten it. You snooze, you lose! Plus, Mimi doesn't really need it (she's chunky) but Zara does (she's really skinny).

I bought a set of purple hat, scarf, and gloves on eBay to go with the new parka. I'm eyeing a pair of quilted mittens to go over the gloves for shoveling snow, brushing snow off of the car, etc., but haven't gotten them yet. The seller gave me a discount, so I bought them.

An article about conserving forests had a link to land-conservation nonprofits, and there's a prairie conservation group out of Urbana (next to Champaign). I might volunteer there when I move to Champaign. And give them some money.

I have a boatload of stuff to do today, but a nap comes first! Slept for an hour.

Ugh. I'm having IBS symptoms again. I don't know why I've been having them so much lately. Stress?

Hmm. A YouTube video gave me some ideas. They record landings (and sometimes full flights) but the videos are too long. A short video showing a landing at say, Costa Rica, would be interesting. I need to figure out how one would film them. Plus maybe a video of the cloud forest? I'd need a GoPro. I saw a video about how to record a video inside a plane, and they recommend a GoPro 7. I'd want to get the GoPro sooner rather than later to give me time to experiment with it before going on a trip that I wanted to capture. I'd need video editing software too. Maybe when I sell the guitar, I could put the money into a GoPro. Possible name for my vlog: Adrienne's Bucket List. I requested some library books on video blogging and YouTube. Note to self: video editing software: CyberLink Power Director 365.

I have dishes soaking in the sink, and now I'm going to study Italian flashcards. Did dishes. Went on the computer to look at a recipe for a grocery list, and Zara jumped onto my shoulders again. Sigh. No, Zara, I don't go on the computer to provide a perch for you.

Here comes the rain....

Paid some bills. Also signed up for Fluent, which will take some words on an English Web site and translate them into the target language. I chose Italian, of course.

Had frozen toasted cheese ravioli for dinner. Yum. I'm back to studying Italian while I digest it. Hmm. Maybe I need a nap. No, couldn't sleep. I wound up watching Rick Steve's Italy on YouTube.

I looked at some of Rick Steve's tours, and some in Great Britain caught my eye because I wouldn't want to drive there. There's one in Southern England that especially interests me. Actually, their "Best of England" tour is pretty cool too.

Talked to Mom. She's still worn out and sleeping all the time. On Monday, she should hear the details about her chemo from her doctor. On Tuesday, my aunt should find out about her cancer symptoms. Mom is going to call on Tuesday with information about both.

I'm mulling over going to sleep and getting up early to study Italian. I need to figure out what to talk about first, just in case I don't get up early.

I've had a sore throat over the last couple of days. I'll make an appointment for a COVID test. Done—I've got one on Wednesday.

Happy 4th of July. I woke up around 12:30 PM. I keep staying up later and later, which isn't good. Monday will be a rude awakening.

Mimi was playing with a wadded-up napkin that fell on the floor. The house is full of cat toys, and she plays with a napkin. Cats! (It's fun to watch her play though.) Mimi also likes hiding under the drying rack when it's full of clothes. It's a cave!

I need to decide whether to go to the fireworks show tonight. I'd enjoy the fireworks, but maybe I should stay home and soothe the cats. I could watch a movie on Netflix.

There was a decent-sized earthquake in Southern California. I should turn the TV on. Watched for a while, but there really was no new news when I turned it off.

Facebook showed me a video that I made of fireworks several years ago, so I got my fireworks fix.

I decided to watch travelogues on Amazon Prime Video after I eat and take my shower. That's kind of patriotic, isn't it? :) America the beautiful, or something like that. Though I'm also eyeing videos from outside the US.

Watched videos of Seattle and Washington state, then took a break for dinner. The challenge is how much ice cream can I eat before Zara tries to stick her head in it?

Watched videos of Oregon and Washington DC. Damn, it would be cool to live near Washington DC. There's so much to see there.

I wrapped up the evening with a travelogue of Hawaii. It was very touristy though and meh. Some nice underwater photography though. Makes me want to learn to dive.

I think that I'll wrap the evening up by doing some stuff online. I read an article about how planting trees is one of the best things that we can do to get rid of carbon in our environment. I looked at volunteer work listed by the Nature Conservancy, and there are some volunteer opportunities in the area, although they mostly have to do with prairie and wetlands conservation.

I suck. I overslept and got onto my conference call late. Luckily, I think that I heard the important part. I don't know why that I've been oversleeping this week. I've been feeling under the weather.

Harlee won't eat her breakfast unless I put it in the basket that she uses as a bed with her. It's nice to be the Queen. (It just occurred to me that her sense of smell might not be as keen as when she was younger, and that's why I need to put the food right in front of her.) This morning, she was purring in my ear. One bit of good news: she seems to be making it to the litter box or near it, although she still has loose stools. It seems like the meds are working. I don't mind washing the floors more often if I don't have to keep washing the carpet all the time. So that's very good news.

I did a really bad job of describing a problem to our consortium as well today. Want to smack my head against the wall. I think that part of the problem is that I forgot to take my meds this morning. I also think that I'm dehydrated. Zara loves me, though, no matter what. (Although she loves me just a little bit more when I'm eating frozen yogurt.) And believe me, that keeps me going when I want to just give up. (I think that I was dehydrated because I drank some water and feel somewhat better.)

The conference that I want to go to the next academic (fiscal) year is starting to put up some info. It's at Niagara Falls, which should be nice. I just need to know how much registration is to be able to estimate costs.

I was looking at Twitter because that's where I asked about the conference (and asking on Twitter worked!), and noticed that I had said that I wanted to get involved in the Scholars at Risk Action Campaign, but never did. I have to admit that I thought about deleting the tweet, but instead, I'm going to get involved. Better late than never.

The nice guy on the cleaning crew whom I scared earlier in the week and who volunteered to brush the snow off my car then saw me bringing out my guitar tonight. He asked what was in the case, and I told him that it was a guitar, and he thought that was cool. He plays bass and two other instruments. He wished me luck on learning guitar.

I forgot to put the trash out yesterday to be collected. And I have a full trash can. Drat.

Harlee has been wanting breakfast in bed the last couple of days and, because she's an old lady, I've been giving it to her in bed. Anything to keep my girl eating. (Hmm. No one gives ME breakfast in bed. That's because I'm staff :))

The colder weather is back (30s F). In a weird way, I'm glad. I'm not sure why. It's supposed to be back in the 50s again by the weekend though.

I have a tedious, mindless task at work that I try to make progress on every day. So I played classical music to do the "listen to classical music every day" thing. I'll have to buy the book of classical music selections sometime. I can't get it through interlibrary loan.

My boss was talking to me about possibly teaching some Information Literacy classes in the future, so I'm looking into Toastmasters and possibly volunteer tutoring. (Do I want to go to Toastmasters this week? I was looking forward to staying home on Friday.)

I found some volunteer online tutoring for children in Africa and the Philippines. I also found a group that will pay your room and board at various spots in Europe if you provide English practice. Some of the places are English-speaking though, which is strange: Ireland and the UK, and Malta. (Although their calendar shows only spots in Eastern Europe. Maybe the English-speaking spots are spots for ESL training?) You still have to pay your airfare. But (in a particular program) they will provide training in teaching English as a Foreign Language and give you some credits in it. They have a few sites in Poland, so I could get in touch with my roots, but I'd like to learn some Polish first. Damn, Language Loop in Chicago is no longer offering Polish classes on the weekend.

Damn, Ursula LeGuin has died. I keep meaning to read some of her books.

I decided not to apply for the research grant. My research project isn't the type of project that they're looking for.
