Woke up around 11 AM, went back to sleep, and woke up around 1. Feeling really groggy. Decided to not go to the new gym today. I think that I need to rest up and get rid of whatever has been making me not feel well this week.

The weather forecasters are predicting a major snowstorm this weekend. 6 to 8 inches. If I need to run errands today, though, I need to get them done before the snow starts. The college president is concerned about the students coming back to school this weekend. I'm glad that the library is closed this weekend.

Perked up a little. Started a load of laundry.

Made a grocery list. I don't need much. I want to pick up soda in case I'm socked in most of the weekend though.

I was paying a bill and leaning over my computer when Zara jumped on my shoulders. Goof. It was cool to hear her purr though. She has a subvocal purr, but I could hear it with her body up against my ear.

Took a brief nap. Had a bite to eat. Zara jumped on my shoulders again.

I wonder if Google is selling the details of my shopping list to advertisers. Probably.

Threw myself together. Ran errands. I bought a new winter hat to replace the one that I lost. I must have been hungry because I also bought some stuff to nosh on.

Back home. There are some movies on Netflix that I'd like to see. It's a little late to watch one now, but maybe later this weekend. I had heard that the Harry Potter movies were coming to Netflix later this month, but apparently that's only in Australia and New Zealand. Bummer. I was looking forward to watching them.

Looked into building PCs again. I want to build a web server. I found some instructions online, but the components that the person chose cost $700, and I can't afford that. OutletPC has decent prices on components. I ordered a "For Dummies" book on building your own PC. I'll probably consult with Erik too.

Studied Spanish. Looked up how to say "there's a lot of snow" in Spanish ("hay mucha nieve"). And here comes the snow....

Can't stop yawning. I think that I'll go to sleep early, and pick things up tomorrow. I'm not planning on going anywhere tomorrow.

Well, Hell

My computer is dead as a doornail. I spilled water on it last night, and now it won't boot, and even won't show that it's plugged in. Damn it. I have a netbook that I can use for some stuff, but I'll need to do homework on my work computer. I won't be able to replace the computer until April because I need to pay for boarding the cats while I'm in Austin. There are some good deals on eBay though. UBid seems to have stopped selling computers. I fell in love with a purple HP laptop on Amazon, but it has only a 32 GB hard drive, and I can fill up 32 GB on a phone. I've been looking at business laptops, which have more room to grow.

Ty ping is a r oyal pain wi th my brace on.

The World Figure Skating Championships are being held in Montréal in 2020. I'd really like to go. I've wanted to go to Montréal for a long time, and I love figure skating, and have never seen it live. I'll see if I can make it happen. (Note to Self: DO NOT FORGET ABOUT THIS!) They take place at the end of March. I think that I could pull it off for $2000ish. Probably less if I stayed in an Airbnb. Need to brush up on my French.

I also want to watch the World Championships on TV in March. I've got them on my calendar. Must see TV!

Ice skating lessons in April? Yes, I know that I'll never be that good. I'll be happy if I stay vertical.

I didn't get up early even though I went to bed early. I wish that I knew why I've been so tired. Want to stay up for a while and get a few things done.

I kept my old Windows XP computer for travel. However, I tried using it in Chicago a couple of years ago, and it couldn't access the Web. So I took my 17-inch laptop to California with me last year, which led to me screwing up my knee. (That thing is HEAVY!) I tried the XP machine the other day, and still no Web access. A Web site or the browser (I don't remember which) suggested that there was a firewall problem. I checked, and no firewall was turned on. I poked around in the Internet connection settings, and lo and behold, the http and https and FTP services were turned off for wireless access. I turned them on, and presto! Web access! I'm posting from that machine.

I'm still running into the problem that some sites aren't supporting browsers that run on XP. Eventually I might upgrade this machine to Windows 7. I wonder if I can get it cheaply.

I tried my netbook too. It's working fine (and it is nice and light for travel, plus it's nice to use in bed), but it has an annoying ad virus. I'm going to try a good malware program and see if I can get it off, but I might need an expert to get rid of it.

I'm also following the news about Hurricane Matthew closely. It's giving me a weird case of déjà vu to Katrina. I hope that it won't be as catastrophic, but an awful lot of areas will be affected by it. I want to go to Charleston and Savannah with my mom too, but it won't happen anytime soon.

I'm now off for five days! I'm going to kick it off tomorrow by getting my straggly mop of hair trimmed. I might also take some books to the coffeeshop and read.
