Dragged myself out of bed. Started a load of laundry. Studied Spanish flashcards.

Poor Zara thinks that I want to put her back in the carrier, and she vanished when I fed them. Need to put the carriers away.

Started tackling the table.

They're predicting another polar vortex next week. Lovely. They're predicting that it won't be as bad as last time though.

I flipped through a book about a woman whose family was killed in the Rwandan genocide. That put my problems in perspective.

Mimi likes to lie in one of the carriers. I want to put them away to calm Zara down, but don't want to put the one that Mimi likes away. Don't know what to do.

I think that I'm going to try meditating again.

Fed the girls. Need to eat and go to sleep.

Crap!!!

Had a hard time getting up. Glad that I went to sleep early last night.

Got my butt in gear. Put clothes in the dryer. Did dishes. Put the girls' food and water out so that I can just drop them off and go into work.

Studied Spanish flashcards. The week off didn't help.

Ran early, so I lay down for a few minutes.

Got the girls. They said that Mimi had a good time because they let her out to roam around. (They also said that Zara hissed at them if they so much as looked at her the wrong way, and I thought, "That's my girl".) The girls shot out of the carriers when I got them home. Now they're checking that it's still home. Mimi said "Hi" by bonking my leg. Zara looked like she wanted to say "Hi," but was still too stressed out. She'll calm down eventually.

According to the Chronicle of Higher Education, an engineer built a remote-control snow blower. Engineers gotta engineer :) Damn, that would be nice to have.

I did something to my lower back and the muscles are spasming.  Probably has to do with hauling stuff through airports.

Zara has been friendly when I came home for dinner. Mimi seems a little insecure and wants to jump on my lap.

Apparently I was missed at work. Job security :)

Oh crap. My landlord wants to sell the building, and he wants me out so that he can renovate it. Crap. crap. crap.

I think that I need an extended stay in a padded room.
days_unfolding: (Default)
There's something to be said for getting up early. I got my hair cut and ran errands, all before 10:30 AM. However, I'm planning to take a nap after I have some Ramen.

The neighbors appear to be moving out.

Took a nap. Studied Spanish flashcards. Took a quiz. Studied Spanish grammar. Developed some Spanish questions for my lesson. Scrubbed a litter box. Had a bite to eat. Took another short nap because I've been feeling really tired. (I think that I forgot to take my meds this morning in the rush to get out of the house.) I can stay up later cleaning now that the neighbors have moved out.

Had my Spanish lesson, but my instructor couldn't hear me. He thought that it was my headphones, but I did the Web site's AV test, and I was able to hear my recording. I don't know what was wrong.

Wanted to vacuum, but Zara was sleeping so peacefully that I decided not to. Then I went in the kitchen, and Zara and Mimi magically appeared. Started cleaning the kitchen and bathroom.

Mom had quite a week. She was stuck in the house due to weather on Wednesday, when she has her therapy appointment. Then the Check Engine light went on when she was going to her chemo appointment. She canceled the appointment and went to the car dealer, who couldn't fit her in, but told her that she could drive the car, and later the Check Engine light went off. She's going to keep an eye on it.

Had some warmed up lobster mac-and-cheese for dinner. It was still good. Zara thought that it smelled really good too; she was hanging around until I finished it. She had just eaten too.

I have a headache, so I think that I'll go to bed early and get up early.
days_unfolding: (Default)
Crud. My doctor forgot to send new prescriptions to the pharmacy. That'll slow things down.

Cleaned up a broken measuring cup. A jar of jam fell out of a cabinet and landed unerringly on the measuring cup in the sink.

Studied Spanish flashcards.

My prescription is ready. Good. I hope that Walmart was able to fill Zara's prescription. I need to go over there and find out. (I can't check on Zara's prescriptions on my phone because they're under a different name from me.)

My instructor canceled our meeting today. She forgot that our schedule was a week off due to the week that we were closed. That gives me lots of extra time. Good. I think that I'll go back to sleep for a little while after Zara finishes snuggling on my lap.

Poor Zara. She was sitting in my lap, resting her head against my chest and being sweet and cute, when the buzzer on the dryer went off, and she freaked and jumped off. Now she's curled up on the bed with me.

Almost forgot that I have a quiz to take tonight. Too many moving parts. I put it on my to-do list.

Napped. Had a bite to eat. Put on my makeup. (I had taken a shower before my instructor canceled.)

Ran my errands. I was so preoccupied with what was going on that I forgot my hat and scarf, and it was 19F and windy. Managed to run my errands without freezing body parts. Walmart did have Zara's meds. I was worried because I read that there was a shortage of BuSpar, and if ever she needs her antianxiety meds, it's while she's at the vet.

Now I need to sit for a few minutes. Mimi is on my lap, which adds to the inertia. Actually I think that I might take a short nap.

Just realized that I meant to get some sweet rolls to take with me to San Jose, but didn't put them on the list. I can pick them up after my hair appointment tomorrow.

Napped. I figure that if I fall asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow, and I did, I must have needed the sleep. I decided not to go to the gym tonight because I have to get up early tomorrow.

Fed the hordes and myself. Had some lobster mac-and-cheese that was really good.

The Web site for Heartland didn't let me log on, so I couldn't take the quiz. I studied Spanish though.

Time to go to sleep.
days_unfolding: (Default)
Didn't wake up early enough to go to the gym. Oh well. I needed the sleep.

Studied Spanish flashcards while I finished my coffee.

My library books are coming in. Good. Need to figure out which one to take to San Jose for those times when electronic devices have to be shut down.

The clothes that I wanted to wear were in the wash, so I cobbled an outfit together from my Goodwill bag containing clothes that I haven't put away. Came up with a pretty cute outfit, which I might also wear on the plane. Not that anyone cares what I wear, but I kind of do. My mom tells me that she goes out with uncombed hair (under a hat) and no makeup, but I'm not there yet.

I forgot to mention that the conference is giving us lunch on Wednesday and Thursday. I'll get reimbursed for food, but not having to spend money is easier. I'm trying to figure out what Pop-Tart-like or granola-bar-like food I can stick in my suitcase and won't cause a problem at Security. That'll be breakfast when I take my meds.

There must be people who prepare calmly for a trip, but those people are not me. I'm kind of stressy.

Fixing the boots with the floppy sole with Gorilla Glue worked quite well. Now I'm wondering if I should take them with me in case of a downpour. Don't really want to get my nice leather ankle boots wet. I'm watching the weather next week in Lincoln, Chicago, and San Jose like a hawk. Looks pretty good next week except for a wintry mix when I'm coming back from O'Hare on Saturday. (I take the bus from O'Hare to Normal and then drive home from Normal, which is a slightly longer drive than going to class because the bus stop is in the center of town.)

Printed off maps, directions, and the conference agenda. Trip is getting real. There's a reception on Wednesday at The Tech. I thought about going to Original Joe's afterward if I was still hungry (they're serving finger foods at the reception), but O.M.G. $15 for a sandwich? Are you kidding me? Jack-in-the-Box is still downtown, and that's more my price range. Also thought about taking an airport shuttle from SJC to my Airbnb, but holy cow. $45 to go about a mile (although Hwy. 85 is in the way, so there might be some routing around)? No. I found out how to get there via light rail. The only problem is that I'm getting in late. I might do my one splurge on Uber for that trip. (Which reminds me; I need to install Uber on my new phone.) It's promises to be an interesting conference. Geeky to the max, but I knew that it would be.

Just remembered that I have homework for class tomorrow. It shouldn't take long.
days_unfolding: (Default)
There isn't a lot of ice outside. Excellent.

Fed myself and the girls. Studied Spanish flashcards.

It's been raining this afternoon and evening, and I've been wondering if it will freeze. The low is just above freezing. The high tomorrow is 35 F. So I'm a little worried. Chicago is an ice skating rink according to my Facebook friends. The weather forecasters are predicting a "wintry mix" around 9 AM, when I leave for class. I guess that I'll go to sleep and see what the morning brings.

There's a freezing rain advisory in the area where my class is. Not good.

Zara is thumping around in her box again. I might never be able to throw it out.
days_unfolding: (Default)
I'm glad that I'm waiting until after the San Jose trip to start my diet. This gives me the chance to get into the habit of going to the gym first.

Woke up at 10 AM. The snow is coming down at a pretty good clip.

Fed the girls and peace reigned over the land. For the moment.

Studied Spanish flashcards.

Zara always goes flying into the microwave box, and I hear a thud, and think, "What the hell?" Goof.

Work has been quiet.

Freezing rain tonight and tomorrow morning. I hate freezing rain.

Zara was manic after I fed her. She was flinging herself in the box, circling, and flipping over. I told her to settle down because she sounded like a herd of elephants. She has quieted down. Goof :)

I'm stressing about a possible government shutdown. I go to San Jose (hmm, I almost wrote $an Jose, which is probably about right) a week from Tuesday.

days_unfolding: (Default)
Decided not to study Spanish, but just go to bed. Zara was already in her spot on the bed. Pondered how to say "I'm tired" in Spanish. "Estoy cansada."

Woke up briefly at 9 AM and went back to sleep. Woke up at noon. Must have needed the sleep. I read an article about all the good things that happen while you sleep, so I'm glad that I'm catching up. Have to hand it to the girls; they don't wake me up.

It's good to have grits for breakfast again now that I have the new microwave. Got all of us fed.

Studied Spanish flashcards.

I had been worried that the neighborhood feral cats hadn't survived the cold snap, but I just saw one of them. Yay!

Lay down for a nap with Zara snuggled next to me, but couldn't fall asleep. That's good; it means that I've caught up on my sleep. And I have plenty of stuff to do.

Received the ankle boots that I bought on eBay. They look nice and are comfortable. They have a zipper, so they should work well for going through airport security. A good buy.

Did some cleaning. Scrubbed a litter box. Studied Spanish. Dyed my hair. I'm getting better at using small blocks of time. I cleaned the bathroom while my hair dye was working. I cleaned the kitchen while making a frozen pizza. Etc.

Talked to Mom. She sounded good.

Went to the gym. I was there by myself, but that was okay.

It's interesting how I interact with my accountability partners. The interaction with my studying accountability partner is very supportive. The interaction with my gym accountability partner is more competitive. She went to the gym; therefore I should go to the gym!

I'm currently downloading Photoshop. I want to make some Spanish flashcards and see what homework I have for the Adobe class.

days_unfolding: (Default)
The Reddit forum for Spanish is very interesting. I posted asking for recommendations for music in Spanish and got one response. Someone asked for TV recommendations for Spanish shows, and apparently there are a bunch on Netflix. Need to check them out.

Way overslept. So much for getting stuff done this morning.

Zara is refusing to eat. I wonder why. I said "Hello" to her later, and she rubbed against my hand and started to eat. I don't know what that was about. Mimi upchucked her food, which worries me, but I had her checked out by the vet when I boarded them over Christmas.

Studied Spanish flashcards while I drank my coffee. Packed my gym bag. Told my accountability partner that I was going to the gym after work, so I guess that I'd better go :) She wants us to send Snapchat pictures of us at the gym, so I installed Snapchat.

I did go to the gym. Go me. Wow, am I out of shape. Just did 15 minutes of cardio and 6 weight machines, but I went!

I didn't study Spanish though, and it's getting late.

days_unfolding: (Default)
Ordered a "fanny pack" with a hole to run headphones from a cell phone in it. I'll be able to listen to audio books or music at the gym.

Zara has claimed a spot on my bed. She spends most of her time there. I had left the blankets folded over after my nap, and she had lay down on them. I tried to get the blankets back when I went to sleep, and she hissed and smacked me. Eventually we worked it out. I think I know whose bed it now is, and it isn't mine.

Woke up at 11:30 AM. The "big melt" is happening outside, and it's slushy. It's 40 F right now. They're calling it the "thermal whiplash".

Just read a New York Times article about a shortage of Buspirone, which is the med that Zara's on. I hope that I can still get it.

Studied Spanish flashcards while drinking my coffee.

Busy lap. I had Mimi on my lap earlier, and now have Zara on my lap.

I figured out how to get the microwave to work. I need to press down on the door when I close it. I hope that it'll hold out for a while.

Took a nap. Woke up a few minutes before my alarm, went back to sleep, and overslept. Zara came in before I fell asleep, walked on me, and settled down and started grooming herself. That made it hard to fall asleep, and I was thinking that if I did that to her, she'd hiss.

Ate something and then cleaned the kitchen (except for mopping the floor) and the bathroom. Threw myself together for my Spanish lesson. Texted Erik that I'm going to be in San Jose later this month.

Had my Spanish lesson. Now I'm learning future tense. We're having longer conversations, so I'm making progress.

Mom is doing well. She had problems getting her car started on Wednesday, and AAA wouldn't come out Thursday or Friday, so she called the person who does her lawn care and shoveling snow, and he came out and jumped the car. It started right up and has been running.

Want to study more Spanish before I go to bed.

Progress!

Overslept my alarm, but eventually got up around 11AM. Did my usual morning routine, plus made a grocery list. Threw clothes in the dryer.

Had my doctor appointment. Made a reservation to board the girls at the vet later this month. (They were glad because "there was only one cat back there".)

Stopped at the new gym, got an overview from the owner (whom I really liked), and got the combo so that I could come in any time. They have a rowing machine! I love rowing machines! If I want to take classes though, they aren't included in my health insurance membership, so I'd need to pay $5 a class. Hmm, they have a Zumba class on Wednesday that I'd like to try. I'd have to eat dinner at my desk though.

Went grocery shopping, and also bought a fitness journal that I can use to track my exercises. Now I'm eating.

Took a nap and slept way longer than I had planned. Fed the girls.

Wrote an e-mail to my new accountability partner. Also posted to Reddit looking for a gym accountability partner.  My new accountability partner wrote back, and she sounds great. I put in over an hour on Spanish, so already having an accountability partner is helping me! Someone also responded to my Reddit post, but I'm a little more dubious about her.

Can't stop yawning. Need to crash.
days_unfolding: (Default)
I bought the nylon (actually, I think that it's polyester) mittens because I'd like to have them for brushing off the car and shoveling the driveway. My hands get cold. Got them on sale and got free shipping by joining their rewards program. Can't justify the long underwear because really cold days are rare.

Zara came in to sleep with me. Mimi acked at her, but then settled down. I moved my legs to keep Zara warm. She was still there when I got up. She lounged around there until she decided that I was about to feed them. Economy of motion :)

The college is open today.

Studied Spanish.

When I left, both Mimi and Zara were in the bedroom, Zara on the bed and Mimi on the wicker chest. Apparently cold encourages détente.

I was matched with an accountability partner! She's in her 40s and a stay-at-home-mom who has gone back to school. Fabulous!

I'm having issues with my microwave. It says that there is an issue with the door and won't let me start the microwave. Unplugging it seems to help a little. It's an almost new microwave; I just got it last year.

Need to eat, e-mail my accountability partner, and study some Spanish.
days_unfolding: (Default)
Class is not canceled. I think that I'll throw an extra blanket in the car, just in case.

Bah-ha-ha. Louisiana is expecting two inches of snow, so the governor declared a state of emergency.

My teacher DID cancel class. Unfortunately, I had taken a shower and gotten dressed, but I can lie down in my clothes. Class is canceled on Thursday too.

I think that I'll run errands before work so that I won't have to run errands in the Arctic cold tonight. Checked to make sure that I had cake pans because I want to make carrot cake tomorrow. Yum.

Napped. Put my makeup on. Ate Ramen. Ran errands.

The University of Illinois, which prides itself on never closing, canceled classes from tonight through tomorrow. However, they're telling their staff to come in tomorrow. That's cold. So to speak. Glad that I don't work there.

The library has been deserted tonight. Not surprised. The only cars that I saw when I left were Domino's Pizza Delivery cars. And a couple of guys buying booze were at the convenience store. I guess that's one way to deal with the cold :)

Someone on Facebook posted instructions on how to dress for very cold weather. I went looking for nylon mittens to put over my gloves, but sheesh. Expensive. I finally found petite women's long underwear at LLBean. It figures that they would have a decent selection. Also expensive though. The cold has been going straight through my work pants. Maybe I could build up my extreme winter wardrobe slowly. I could wear nylons under my pants as the poor person's long underwear. I have a jacket that I could wear under my coat.

I want to find an accountability partner for studying Spanish. Knowing that I will talk to my instructor helps some, but I don't study every day and should if I want to make good progress. I found Reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/GetMotivatedBuddies/, so I'll try there. There might be a Reddit group for language learning too. https://www.reddit.com/r/learnspanish/ https://www.reddit.com/r/languagelearning/

Woke up at 9 AM. Good. I'll have some time to get stuff done before my Spanish lesson. Almost went back to sleep because I was yawning, but decided to eat breakfast first and then take a nap.

We're all fed.

I've been looking at a Facebook page called "Fake Library Statistics," and it's pretty funny. Its latest is "On any given day a librarian will have 7 books checked out, 7 of which are overdue," and I, along with a bunch of other librarians said, "Only 7???"

Emptied the dryer and put my towels and rags in it.

More snow is coming. Glad that I didn't brush off the car yet.

Took a nap. We might have gotten a little extra snow, but it looks like it's done. Now they're saying that there will be more snow at 5:30. Now they're saying no more snow. Yay.

I want to make lunch, but Zara is asleep on my lap. I finally woke her up and ate lunch. Now she's back on my lap again.

Threw myself together, brushed snow off of the car, and shoveled the driveway. I'm warming up a little, and then I'll go run errands.

Bought soda, bread, and milk. The soda froze on the truck though, so I need to wait for it to thaw before opening it.

It just occurred to me that I should try to write my LJ posts in Spanish as well as English. I'd learn a lot of Spanish that way. I should look for news in Spanish too.

Had my Spanish lesson. My instructor keeps me guessing as to what we'll do in each lesson. I prepared different stuff than what we discussed. I'm working on flashcards because if I don't get them done on the weekend, I won't get them done during the week.

Talked to Mom. She was in a talkative mood. She still has been tired and sleeping a lot. She thinks that there won't be another government shutdown in February. Good because the temporary hiatus will end right before I go to San Jose.

I'm feeling tired. I fed the girls, and after I eat, I think that I'll go to sleep and study more in the morning.
days_unfolding: (Default)
Woke up at 10 AM. Went back to sleep. Woke up at 1.

Kitty drama as soon as I got up. Mimi and Zara were chasing each other and batting each other. They sounded like a herd of elephants. I told them to cut it out. Surprisingly, they listened.

Forgot to put coffee in the coffee-maker. Way to go.

Studied Spanish flashcards while drinking my coffee. Pondering how to say "My cats don't like each other. They fight." in Spanish. Need to look it up.

Zara is hanging out on my lap. Apparently my lap is more cozy than the fuzzy blanket.

Now I'm thinking that maybe I should shovel the driveway tomorrow. It's supposed to be warmer, and I need to run errands tomorrow.

Took a nice nap with Mimi. Woke up before my alarm went off, and couldn't fall back asleep, so I guess that I had enough sleep. Put on my cleaning sweats.

Had a bite to eat.

Apparently some people were stuck on a United flight for 14 hours when it had to make an emergency landing in Newfoundland. The plane couldn't take off again, and there were no Customs people in the airport overnight, so they had to stay on the plane. I don't know why they couldn't have gone into the airport if they couldn't leave. They ran out of food, and someone brought them Tim Horton's though. Yay, Canada. Finally, another plane arrived with food that was able to take off.

Speaking of airplanes, I forgot to mention that Mom was worried about the TSA situation when I fly to San Jose. I'll get to O'Hare airport three hours before flight time, but if things are really bad, that could be a problem. I can get to San Jose airport really early because I'm taking the red-eye. Mom thinks that the government shutdown will be over by then though. I hope so.

Decided to wash some towels and rags, charge my cordless Bluetooth headphones, and soak a litter box while I watch a movie. (It would have been more efficient if I started everything but the litter box while I napped, but I didn't think of it.) I'll switch the laundry part-way through. Emptied the dryer. I don't know where all the pads for my steam mop have gone. I bought six, and I'm down to two. Need to buy more when I get paid, I guess.

Zara is on my lap again, which is slowing down the process.

I watched The Woman in Gold. It's a true story about a woman who tries to get some paintings stolen by the Nazis back from the Austrian government. The movie got lukewarm reviews, but I was riveted. There's one scene in which the woman says goodbye to her parents before fleeing Austria that had me in tears.

Something like that happened in my family. When the Russians invaded Lithuania, my grandmother, two of her sisters, and their families fled the country. My grandmother's youngest sisters stayed with their parents. My grandmother never saw her parents again. My great-grandmother and great-grandfather were sent to Siberia.

After the movie, I filled the clean litter box and cleaned the kitchen and bathrooms, except for the floors. Made dinner. I have homework to do, but I'm going to go to bed early and get up early because I need to get up early for class on Tuesday.

The snow has stopped, but it's windy and there are snow drifts. The street hasn't been cleared. I saw a line down in the alley, so I called the police non-emergency number. Apparently some trucks jackknifed on I-55, and the northbound lanes were closed, but now it's opened up. Typical winter storm mess.

Zara found the blanket that I left on my kitchen chair, and now she doesn't want to get out of the chair. I told her that I'd warm it up for her.

Uh-oh. Zara wants to jump into my lap, but Mimi is already there. Zara decided to eat dry food instead. Mimi left, and now Zara is in my lap. I'd like to make breakfast, but I'm a mattress.

They're plowed the street. They're really staying on top of things. I'm trying to decide what to do about the driveway. Tomorrow there's a high of 15F, and it's warmer today. But it's very windy with blowing snow, so the snow might blow across the shoveled driveway. The Weather Channel says that the wind will stop by 6 PM, so maybe I'll go shovel then.

Studied my Spanish flashcards.

As soon as I got up, Zara came running to claim the chair. I think that it's no longer mine :)

Had a nice nap with Mimi. Took the chair from Zara, but moved the blanket to the other chair. She checked it out, but is now looking out the window. She'll get used to it being moved eventually. Right now, though, she's protesting that I moved it by lying on the freezer. Now she's decided that it's okay.

Had my Spanish lesson. He really keeps me working hard, which is good.

Mom visited an out-of-town friend earlier in the week. She's been sleeping a lot the rest of the week and is trying to get rid of her cold. She's really upset about the government shutdown. (So am I.)

I think that I'm going to make some Spanish flashcards and then go to bed.

days_unfolding: (Default)
I'm thinking that I'll wait until Monday to run errands, but I need to check my food situation. They're saying that the snow will start at 9 PM, though, which would give me time to run out. Oh right, I need to get Zara's meds, so I do need to go out. Plus, I need grits.

Threw in a load of laundry. Called Zara's prescription in. Fed the girls and myself. Need to wait until I can throw the clothes in the dryer before I can take a nap. I love naps.

Had a nice long nap. Had a bite to eat. Made a short shopping list. Have a bad headache, but I need to get moving. Some acetaminophen and a shower helped.

Now the weather forecasters are saying that snow will start at 10PM. Works for me.

Apparently I can ask my Google Home for stock prices.

Back home and ready to be snowed in. The store was packed; I guess it was the combo of being a Friday and the oncoming storm. The store was out of a lot of stuff. I had a taste for grilled cheese and tomato soup, so I picked up some cheddar and soup.

Now they're saying that the snow will start at 11:45 PM. Big honking storm on the radar though.

The grilled cheese and tomato soup were good.

I've got the yawns, but I need to study Spanish.

I tried putting out a fuzzy blanket on a kitchen chair for Zara, but she freaked out. I dumped the blanket on my chair.

I've been studying Spanish and adding new words to my vocabulary as I construct sentences. "Microwave oven" is "microondas".

Snowed In

Jan. 12th, 2019 11:34 pm
days_unfolding: (Default)
Woke up at 10 AM. Went back to sleep. Woke up at noon when Mimi started climbing on me. Mom, get up, I'm hungry!!

Yep, I'm snowed in. Not going anywhere until they plow my street. The Weather Channel says that we got 5 inches of snow, and it's still snowing. Mimi is checking out the snow from the window.

Hmm. Trying to decide whether to take a class in Workstation Operating Systems in addition to my Adobe class. I need to make a decision right away because classes start on Monday. The book for the class is a problem. I could rent it and get it in a couple of days, but it's a book that I'd like to keep. I could order a used one from a third-party seller, but it would take too long. Renting it and then buying a copy would still be cheaper than buying it new. There's also the question whether I want to go to Heartland three days a week instead of two. It would be cheaper, though, to do Google's IT series on Coursera than taking IT classes at Heartland. I think that I've decided not to take it and to take the Google series instead.

Took a nap.

They plowed the street finally. I need to shovel the driveway, but I'll do that tomorrow because we might get more snow tonight.

Had a bite to eat. Studied Spanish. Threw myself together for my Spanish lesson. Had my Spanish lesson. I'm now learning past tense, which is cool.  Mimi walked in front of my Web cam during the lesson. My instructor laughed.

Brushed off my car. I still need to shovel the driveway, but I'll do that tomorrow.

Mom is doing better. The doctors think that she had a bad cold last week. Her test numbers are up, so she had chemo this week.

I made the pizza with the cauliflower crust. It was decent. Not as good as pizza with a bread crust, but edible. I'll have to try making my own cauliflower-crust pizza. Need to get a small pizza pan. I have a deep-dish one somewhere, but I'm not planning to make deep-dish pizza.

days_unfolding: (Default)
Woke up around 11 AM, went back to sleep, and woke up around 1. Feeling really groggy. Decided to not go to the new gym today. I think that I need to rest up and get rid of whatever has been making me not feel well this week.

The weather forecasters are predicting a major snowstorm this weekend. 6 to 8 inches. If I need to run errands today, though, I need to get them done before the snow starts. The college president is concerned about the students coming back to school this weekend. I'm glad that the library is closed this weekend.

Perked up a little. Started a load of laundry.

Made a grocery list. I don't need much. I want to pick up soda in case I'm socked in most of the weekend though.

I was paying a bill and leaning over my computer when Zara jumped on my shoulders. Goof. It was cool to hear her purr though. She has a subvocal purr, but I could hear it with her body up against my ear.

Took a brief nap. Had a bite to eat. Zara jumped on my shoulders again.

I wonder if Google is selling the details of my shopping list to advertisers. Probably.

Threw myself together. Ran errands. I bought a new winter hat to replace the one that I lost. I must have been hungry because I also bought some stuff to nosh on.

Back home. There are some movies on Netflix that I'd like to see. It's a little late to watch one now, but maybe later this weekend. I had heard that the Harry Potter movies were coming to Netflix later this month, but apparently that's only in Australia and New Zealand. Bummer. I was looking forward to watching them.

Looked into building PCs again. I want to build a web server. I found some instructions online, but the components that the person chose cost $700, and I can't afford that. OutletPC has decent prices on components. I ordered a "For Dummies" book on building your own PC. I'll probably consult with Erik too.

Studied Spanish. Looked up how to say "there's a lot of snow" in Spanish ("hay mucha nieve"). And here comes the snow....

Can't stop yawning. I think that I'll go to sleep early, and pick things up tomorrow. I'm not planning on going anywhere tomorrow.

Woke up around 10 AM. Decided that I didn't want to get up yet, and woke up at noon. Mimi is hanging out on my lap. Zara is sleeping in.

I have to admit that the warmer weather is easier to take, although it's not good for the planet.

Zara is not sleeping on my fuzzy blanket now that it's warmer, and is sleeping on a blanket that I have on top of my wicker chest.

Zara finally got up. She was sitting on the kitchen table, which she's not supposed to do, but she jumped off for a snack.

Got myself and the girls fed.

Wondering if I'll have enough dry cat food to last this month (they eat less than a bag a month), but I don't want to run out, so I better order some. I should check out Chewy; I think that there's a 30 percent off coupon code for your first order? I've been ordering from Amazon. No, it's 30 percent off your first autoship. Amazon is cheaper.

Took a nap and dozed lightly. Kept on thinking about people from IBM for some reason.

Apparently my tutor had to cancel my Spanish lesson. I'm wondering if I should go run errands tonight, but I need to get back in time for my mom's call. If I don't go to Aldi, I could go after the call. Or I could clean the bathroom and kitchen.

Zara is snuggling on my lap. I finally convinced her to get off so that I could eat.

Studied Spanish. I want to look at my Spanish books and make more flashcards later tonight.

Changed into my cleaning sweats. Put new batteries in my kitchen clock and reset it. Took out the garbage and recycling. Downloaded some audio books to listen to while I clean. Cleaned the bathroom, including the floor. Cleaned the kitchen, except for the floor.

Mom has a cough. Her doctor gave her some antibiotics. Her hemoglobin and white cell counts are lower too. Her doctor didn't give her the chemo this week. Mom has been sleeping a lot.
