I ordered a martingale collar (recommended by the dog training folks) and a double-handled leash for Bella.

Woke up at 7:30 AM. Ordered groceries for delivery.

[personal profile] shadowcat said that A Complete Unknown is now on Hulu, so I want to make time to see it. Also, I want to see A Real Pain. Maybe on Sunday? Or maybe one of them tonight? I used to have a Friday night ritual where I watched movies. I liked it. Or maybe after raking on Saturday. I'll be too tired to do more stuff around here. No, the Mozart Requiem concert is on Saturday. I need to figure out what to wear.

Bella cracks me up when I feed the cats. She comes to me for petting as a distraction because otherwise, she might lose control and eat the cats' food. LOL.

The groceries were delivered earlier than I expected, so they sat out for a while. But now I have soda and food.

It’s warm out, and Bella didn’t want to come in, but she did so grudgingly.

Overslept my nap. I'm tired.

I'm definitely going to go to the Hands Off! rally on Saturday, 4/5, but there's also one for trans rights on Monday, 3/31. It's two hours during lunchtime, and I'll be working, so I'm not sure how that would work. I couldn't work late because I have choir. I need to get some poster board and markers. At Dollar Tree? Actually, Hands Off! has printable signs. The problem is that I agree with most of them. Hard to make a decision. Oh, there's one with everything. I think that I found my sign.

The cats knocked down my trackball and the ball part is missing. What did they do with it? I'm glad that Oliver is happy but sad that it took Mimi dying to make him happy. He just stole my pen!

Oh, it occurred to me the other day that I'll have to get someone to let Bella out at lunchtime on the days that I have my in-person staff meeting at the end of April. I'll look on Wag first.

Goofball Bella was rolling on her back outside. She clearly loves the weather.

I'm actually feeling warm with my hoodie upstairs, so I took it off.

Oh man, am I stiff. I definitely need to go to yoga tomorrow.

Lily's stomach clock is good. I feed the dog and cats after I take Bella out after work at 5:30 PM. Lily was on my lap, purring and head-butting me at 4:45. Lily has gotten so big that I do a doubletake, thinking that she's Mimi (although she still is smaller than Mimi).

Speaking of Mimi, I haven't gotten a call about her ashes. I'll need to call on Monday and find out what's going on.

I really want to learn Forex trading (don't worry; I won't risk money for a long time after paper trading), so I made a list of books to get. I asked ChatGPT how to learn it and it gave me some recommendations. I also asked about Web site building, but that might wait until retirement.

Hmm. Daily OM has an event that kind of interests me and it isn't too expensive: Expert-Led Fascia Stretches to Eliminate Sitting Damage

Hey! I can get a Senior Membership to the Urbana pool and gym. They have free Folk [Music] in the Park, and a beginner’s Pickleball League! And I think that choir will be over for the summer, so I will have more nights free. They have a rail trail ride if I get back up to speed on bicycling.

I think that I’m going to go to bed early to get up early and rake. I have yoga and the concert tomorrow too, so I need to get up really early. Crap, now they're saying rain tomorrow. I'm still getting up early.

I started looking at tours for the Kauai trip. They have hiking tours, which I didn't consider. But I don't think that I'd be in shape for them.

Got up around 9AM. The cats, of course, were like "Good. You're up. Feed us." It's good to be appreciated, I guess. After I fed them, Mimi decided that she was still hungry and hoovered up her leftover dry food, stopping between bites to stare at me. No, I'm not giving you more food.

The house makes weird thumping noises. Mom and I thought that it was haunted. When I lived here, we both heard the other one come home, only to find that the other person was not there.

Oh great. Headache. This is not good because I have a lot to do today.

I've decided not to go to AT&T in search of an iPhone today. I have too much going on today, plus the vaccines. I'll go next week after my organizer appointment. I'll need to get more vaccines next week, but maybe on Friday or Sunday?

I got the tank tops that I bought from Amazon specifically for the shots. I'll take my jeans jacket off and voila, shoulders to puncture. I'm not a fan of tank tops otherwise.

Had a nice nap and woke up before my alarm.

I'm mulling over how to get a table out of the basement. It's sagging in the middle, and the estate sale guy said to get rid of it (after I get the dumpster). I guess that I could hire two TaskRabbit guys to move it, but I hate to pay them for an hour just to move it. I might not have a choice though. Hmm, maybe I could get them to put the bags of garbage in the dumpster also. And get the dead plants out of the basement.

Me to Zara: will you stop poking holes in my jeans [with her claws]. Zara to me: No! Glad that we've got that settled.

I zipped out and got the bike. The guy set it up for me free of charge. The only thing is that the turn signals won't work because I need the seat way down. It's cute though. Then the garage door refused to close, so I bypassed the door closer.

It took me an hour and fifteen minutes to get the vaccines. Walgreens was short-staffed. Sigh. One shot really hurt, but apparently I had my shoulder hunched up.

I really crashed out and overslept my phone alarm. I forgot to mention that my other alarm clock bit the dust. I just ordered a new one. Hmm, that means that I should take my shower tonight in case I oversleep tomorrow morning.

I scheduled my next vaccines for next Sunday at CVS this time. I hope that they won't be as short-staffed as Walgreens. Also, I found a set of turn signals for the bike that mount on the rear rack.

Mimi heard me crunching on "dry food" (Honey Almond Cookie Crunch from BistroMD), and she said, "Hey! I want some dry food!" Delivered.

I need to get to sleep. The organizer is coming tomorrow.

days_unfolding: (Default)

Ugh. I had my alarm set for 7 AM, woke up, and decided to go back to sleep for an hour.

I was looking at new Italian teachers because mine is stopping teaching. I found a few possibilities. His timing is bad for me given that I'm going to Italy next year.

I looked at iPhones at Verizon because it's cheaper than AT&T, but they don't have the purple iPhone, and the phones won't be available for a couple of weeks. Oops, AT&T doesn't have the purple phone after all. And it won't be available for a couple of weeks. But the phone is cheaper with a trade-in.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I booked flights back and forth to Chicago for my Hawaii trip.

The organizer and her assistant have come and gone. We got most of my mom's bedroom done, which was a major undertaking. Her assistant got all the glassware out of the plant room. I have some "homework": get the dumpster situation settled, get an estate sale person in here, and go through a couple of boxes in my mom's bedroom. Our next session is on Sunday, which precludes setting up an Italian session, but we're going back to Saturday the following week.

I'm making lunch right now (and Zara is reminding me to feed her!), and then I'll drive to the bike shop to drop off the turn signals that I got from eBay.

Made it to the bike shop (thank you, phone GPS). I indulged in a donut because I really, really wanted one. It's eating a box of them is the problem.

I was wearing my points of a compass t-shirt, jeans, and a jean jacket, and I thought that I looked pretty good :)

Nap time. Mimi is vegging/snoozing (hard to tell the difference!) next to me. Couldn't sleep. I usually can tell within a few minutes whether I can sleep or not. Maybe I'll just go to bed early.

The person who owns the Urbana house asked to talk to me tomorrow for "a favor," and I'm curious what that's about.

Oh, I forgot to mention (so much is happening right now!) that I got the new laptop. I think that I'll go set it up after I move some of Mom's clothes from my room to the bed in her room. And I need to make an appointment with a TaskRabbit person to pack up her remaining clothes.

My curiosity got the best of me, and I looked under my mom's bed. It's not so bad. A couple of boxes of papers, a box of my grandmother's things, and some cassette tapes that I need to ask the estate sale person about. I'll see how far I'll get on them this week. I'd like to be done with that room. Oh, I also moved some of Mom's clothes from my room to her bedroom, and found a pretty scarf and a hat that looks good on me, and requested a TaskRabbit person for a week from tomorrow to pack up her clothes. (She accepted the job.) One of my tasks for this week is to separate my clothes from her clothes and wash any clothes that have been lying around. If I'm really ambitious, I'll go through Mom's scarves and shawls. (There are a lot of them!)

I went upstairs and finished going through my mom's "memory box". I can go to sleep with a good sense of accomplishment!

days_unfolding: (Default)

I woke up from my nap at 5 AM. I want breakfast, although it will make me less hungry for Dim Sum. It occurred to me that I could go to the Pinecrest, which is open 24 hours. I could have a breakfast sandwich, which won't fill me up too much.

I did go to the Pinecrest. On the way, there was a guy collapsed on the ground--I saw him nodding off early--and I was wondering if he was okay. But he was sitting up when I came back.

Okay, my stuff is packed, and I've checked in for my flights. Now I have time to kill. Tried lying down, but I can't sleep. I hope that means that I will sleep on the flight tonight. Texted with Erik about meeting him later.

I checked out of the hotel at 11. Erik came by at 12. He has an electric car, so we got in a discussion of the pros and cons. (He loves it.) He also almost sold me on an iPhone. He's one of the people whom I really listen to. We had a great time catching up and pigged out on Dim Sum. We ordered too much :) Afterward, we walked around in Aquatic Park, where I had been planning to go. He dropped me back at the hotel. I've been reading books on my Kindle. I'm reading an interesting book on the importance of having a quest, The Happiness of Pursuit. I can't think of any quests that I'm on except posting to LJ and DW every day.

I'm charging my phone in the "Business Center" at the hotel. I'd like to be able to use it for my boarding pass, although I did print off the boarding passes here.

Hmm, now I'm looking at electric cars, and the Toyota Highlander Hybrid looks appealing.

Finally, it got to the time for the driver to pick me up. Someone called, but didn't answer when I picked up. Someone called several more times, so I ignored it. He then texted me, and I texted him the name of the hotel and address. He asked me if he should pick me up at 8:05 or 8:30, and I said 8:30. At 8:15 he calls and says that he's at the Westin. Huh? I told him where I was again, and he said, Oh no. Eventually he got to my hotel, but it took him several tries to pull in, which didn't give me the warm fuzzies about his driving. I did NOT give him a tip.

I've been pondering why I always get frazzled in airports. I think that it has to do with pulling everything out in security. OTOH, I passed a guy who was strolling along slowly like, I always take my luggage for a walk! I see people who are knocking their luggage over, etc., and I think "You are my people" :)

I got here way early for a midnight departure, hence the 8:30 pickup. My gate was the farthest one, of course. And they changed the gate twice. I found an electrical outlet and am charging my phone.

I really want to go to sleep. I hope that bodes well for sleeping on the flight. It did. I slept the way to O'Hare and found out how to get to the other terminal. The gate was the farthest gate again. (Is the Universe trying to tell me that I need more exercise?) I dozed at the gate, and I dozed on the flight. The shuttle guy called right after I got off the plane.

Now I'm back. Zara is all excited that I'm back. I haven't seen Mimi yet. I'm making lunch. Lunch was good. Hunger is the best sauce.

Now I think that I'll take a nap, then shower, and then do laundry.

Zara is telling me that she hasn't been fed. Liar :) And Mimi is telling me her tale of woe.

Had a nice nap. I could have slept longer, but I want to be able to sleep tonight. Had a nice shower, but my razor is refusing to shut off. Do I need to replace it every four months? I'm not thrilled. Mimi is upset that I shut her out of the bathroom.

Got laundry going. Sorted the mail, except for the Daily Look and Stitch Fix boxes; I want to get it out in the recycling. Fed the girls and mollified them. Got the garbage and recycling out.

The Southfield Park District has golf and tennis lessons, both of which I'd like to learn, but I think that I should concentrate on relearning to ride my bike. Speaking of which, it's ready at the bike shop, but I'd like for them to put the turn signals that I ordered on eBay. Plus I need to get a bike rack from Amazon. The Park District also has a gentle yoga class that I'd like to try.

Had dinner. Got the clothes in the dryer. I want clean, dry pajamas before I go to sleep.

I was thinking that I really don't enjoy flying any more, but given that I want to go to Hawaii and Europe, flying it is. Train travel is more civilized though. I just IMed my Italian teacher to see if he's back in Italy. I think that my "quest" is to work really hard on Italian for my trip next year.

days_unfolding: (Default)

The time on my phone hadn't updated when my alarm went off, so I got up at 6 AM. Got myself together and my suitcase closed quickly. The guy who was keeping an eye on me showed up early and got my breakfast. I was done in plenty of time before getting to Reno.

At Reno, I had to wait for my bag. When I got it, I was bending over one of my bags when someone peered into my face and it was Dad. We ran an errand to a liquor store and then he drove back to his house. I said hello to my dad's wife Sue and we chatted a little. Then I took a nap. We had dinner here and watched Jeopardy. I ordered my bicycle to be shipped to a bike shop. Now I'm yawning again and am slightly peeved that it's only a little after 8 PM local time.

Dad is being kind of forgetful. He seems more "with-it" than Mom was though.

I wound up staying up until the mega-storm died down. I don't think that I could have slept through it.

Woke up slightly before my alarm. Got some cleaning done.

I don't know about me today. First, I was waiting for my shower to heat up--without turning it on. Then I went to soak cat dishes without putting water in. My mind is having a drought.

Okay, my final (?) bike choice. It comes in a small size, which I want. And apparently my colleague/friend has one and likes it! (I keep changing my mind about whether I want the sea blue color or sea foam.)

I cleaned the kitchen and downstairs bathroom. I don't know about what the cleaner said that it would require more than one person because I'm one person and got it done. It did require elbow grease however. Though I haven't done the upstairs bathroom yet. I'll do that on Sunday.

I have a couple more things to do, but I should get a decent night's sleep tonight.

days_unfolding: (Default)

I found a money-belt-type wrap on Facebook and ordered one. I could keep my phone, ID, etc. in it when I take my flights.

I had planned to get up early to get things done, but--you guessed it--I overslept.

I had a good session with the life coach. She keeps me from going in the weeds and getting overwhelmed. She has me writing lists. I think that I want to keep meeting with her even after I get the house done.

Well, hell. The cleaner thought that the kitchen and bathrooms were too dirty to clean. I just booked with a cleaning service and warned them that the kitchen and bathrooms haven't been cleaned in a long time. Now I'm thinking that I'll need to clean the kitchen and the bathroom to get them cleaned. Sigh.

I'm figuring out where I can eat in San Francisco without gaining a ton of weight. I've got breakfast (check out the Napa omelette!) and dinner figured out, but I'm flummoxed about lunch. I suppose that I could skip lunch, but I'll probably be getting up early because of the time change. I'll probably be in Little Italy around lunchtime, and there is a ton of pasta, which I should skip. Okay, I found a place on Pier 39, not in Little Italy. Their salmon bowl sounds good.

My plan for Saturday in S.F. is to eat breakfast near Union Square, go to Grace Cathedral on Nob Hill, maybe or maybe not go to Russian Hill, go to Little Italy, go to Fisherman's Wharf (stop in Enlightenment and Expedition!), and go to Aquatic Park and watch the sunset. Then dinner in Fisherman's Wharf and take the bus back to Union Square.

This might be the bike. Or this one. I'd want to get a rear rack, panniers, and lights because it'll be an errand bike. I think that I'm leaning toward the second one.

Submitted a Kroger's order, including bleach so that I can bleach the damn floors. Oh, and frozen yogurt bars, which I'm not telling my weight-loss coach about, but I'm down seven pounds, so I'm losing weight regardless. Plus the miracle of the FitBit Sensa's strap going down a notch. I'm pleased.

I'm tired. I'm going to go to bed and get up early this time to clean the bathroom and kitchen.

And here comes another storm. The Detroit Airport was closed the other day due to storms. I hope that nothing will go wrong when I fly out of there.

days_unfolding: (Default)

Mower guy showed up and got the lawn mowed before the rain. Good. I was about to contact him because the lawn was looking shaggy.

Oh wow. It's pouring. And I have my brow appointment in a few minutes.

I got the time change wrong and got to the brow place an hour early. Left and came back. And wow, now I know why the brow lady stays booked up. I now have perfect brows. I never have had perfect brows. I kept looking at them in the rear-view mirror on the way back. I made another appointment in two months. I kind of wish that Mom could see my brows. Ah well. (The brow lady thought that my trip sounded cool too.)

The only thing is that I'm not supposed to get my brows wet before tomorrow afternoon, so I guess that I won't take a shower before the cleaner gets here.

I booked a manicure right before my trip in a fancy-smancy nail salon in Birmingham, which is a ritsy area near here. I also found a hair salon in Birmingham that I'd like to try, but there's no way that I'll get an appointment before I go.

The Food and Wine Festival on Maui was postponed until next year. I donated my ticket to a restaurant and hospitality fund. The snorkeling trip that I was going to go on is no doubt canceled too because it's near Lahaina, but I haven't heard anything about it yet. I'm thinking that the operators of my tours can just keep the money because they'll probably need it.

The Olanzapine prescription was filled, and I'm having it delivered to me.

Hmm. I found a place that does laser treatment for toenail fungus. I did some research and it seems to work pretty well. I hide my toes because they look so bad.

Now I'm looking at bicycles. I'd have to get a rack to bring it back unless I have the movers move it. I found a couple of possibilities. I'm eyeing this bike, which I like except for the fact that it's pink. or maybe this one I found some people who will teach you to ride a bike too. One of my exes (Steve, not Erik) said to get a more upright bike though. Now I'm looking at this one, which is more vertical.

I'm currently tidying up the kitchen for the cleaner, but I need to get my cell phone to see to turn the light on in the garage, where I'm putting boxes, and my cell phone is charging. So I decided to stop and post.

It's storming again.

I'm eyeing ebikes, but I'd be worried that it would get stolen. I read an article about how to lock one up to make it less likely though. And I'm eyeing a tricycle for better balance. I found one that I really like, with a removable battery, which is useful, but I wouldn't order one until I get back to Urbana. It would be great for short errands such as returning library books and such. Hmm, I found a tricycle without electrical assist too, but I think that an etrike is better in case I run out of steam. Oh hmm, it's on eBay for half-price.

Took a nap and slept through until morning. I got up in the middle of the night and set my alarm for 5:30 AM, but slept until 7:30. Fuck. I think that I heard the garbage truck, so they might not pick it up. I'm more worried about the recycling, which comes later. I also need to get the bags of clothes downstairs for the errand guy.

days_unfolding: (Default)

Hmm. I'd kind of like to spend some time on Lake Michigan this summer, but I have too much on my plate. I'll look at hotels though. Note to self: New Buffalo Inn and Spa. Go for a walk on the beach and then get a spa treatment :) Oooh: Total Relaxation Package: Relax and have the ultimate Spa Day with an 80 Minute Massage, a Custom Facial and an Herbal Bath in our hydrotherapy tub! Expensive, but sounds heavenly. That would be nice after the move if I have the money. Or maybe I could do a spa day in Champaign and save on the hotel and time.

I connected with a guy who really wants the bike that I'm selling for his wife. He'll come by tomorrow. I hope that this wife likes it.

Took a nap and slept through until morning. I didn't wake up until my alarm went off again at 9 AM, and went, "Shit, I need to get to work."

Because I slept through last night, I missed the news that there was another Sandy Hook-type shooting. When are we going to pass stronger background check laws? It won't solve everything, but it surely will help. The Onion has it right: "‘No Way To Prevent This,’ Says Only Nation Where This Regularly Happens".

It was a meeting-o'rama at work. Finally, I can work on stuff.

I sold the bicycle. Far out. We had some problems getting the tires pumped up, but he got it to work.

I looked at a backpack that I have to see if I want to keep it, but no, it's going to Goodwill if they'll take it. (They don't take luggage.) Then I looked at travel backpacks because I want one for traveling and found a few possibilities.

Here comes some rain. They're predicting more tonight. And I need to go grocery shopping.

Lay down for a while because I have a headache. Couldn't sleep. Looked at house prices in Champaign-Urbana, and there are some that would be in my price range in a couple of years. Awesome.

Hmm. The storms are supposed to be over at 10, so I'll hole up for the meanwhile and work on my file drawers. I'm glad that I'm keeping one of the filing cabinets because there are some files that I want to keep. But I'm chucking a lot of stuff out.

Back from the store with ingredients for Apple Spinach Salad and veggie burritos. Walmart was out of butternut squash for the burritos, so I substituted sweet potatoes and bought a bag of them and doubled my ingredients for my recipe. I'll feed the freezer too. Burritos are great food for not wanting to cook. I didn't get peanut butter because it wasn't on my list. I need to run to Aldi.

I need to load and start the dishwasher and crash.

days_unfolding: (Default)

It's cold. 56 F. Need to bring out my sweatshirt. I'm wondering if I should turn the heat on, but it's supposed to get up to the 60s F. Zara is snuggling with me to get warm.

I weighed myself this morning, and I'm down around 15 pounds. Awesome.

Italian went okay. My teacher complimented me on how much Italian I was understanding. He's busy next week, so my next lesson is in two weeks.

Watched a webinar about credit scores.

I'm back with the bicycle that I want to sell. I couldn't get it to fit in my car (although I've done so before) so I had to tie down the hatch. I washed the bicycle with water. I need to get a bicycle pump and inflate the tires. It's locked outside. Oh, and I found a Parson's table that I never built, so I'll build it and sell it.

I was going to get a bicycle pump at Walmart, but I found one on Amazon that also had a patch kit, so I bought it (for my hybrid bike).

Took out the garbage. Looked at used kitchen tables because my bistro set will go out on the balcony if I have one.

Lay down for a while but couldn't sleep. Found a guy that I kind of liked during college on LinkedIn. Looked for a friend of his but no luck.

Kind of hung out for a while. I need to eat a little and go to sleep.

Ugh

I've been anxiously awaiting the seller of the sewing machine to ship the item. Take a chill pill, Adrienne.

The things (lock, cover, and lights) for my bicycle were delivered today. I need to go grab my bicycle.

I'm feeling like I'm getting a cold (sore throat, sniffles, and freezing cold). Terrific.

Looked for a library book that I need to return, but thus far, I haven't found it. (Dear Autocorrect, when I type "thus" I mean "thus".)

Heated up some turkey casserole, but I don't want it. I'm going to have a couple of bagels and go to bed. Had one bagel. I'm going to take my temperature and crash.
