Happy Easter! (I first wrote "Happy Eater!' Appropriate for these times.) I didn't get up to watch the Easter service. But the movie last night was worth it.

The cats are wondering why I'm moving slow this morning.

The airfares keep going up, but that's probably because the airlines keep canceling flights.

I'm mulling over garden plans. I saw some raised boxes for gardening, but they're $150, and you could buy a lot of vegetables for that price. (Apparently the flash sale is over, and now it costs over $1000. No.) I do want to grow herbs and tomatoes. I could get baby spinach plants and grow them in pots, but they'll all be ready at one time. Maybe two pots of herbs because I want to grow oregano for Tuscan Chicken. Maybe I'll go back to Walmart on Monday and look at plants. Maybe two pots of tomatoes to grow cherry tomatoes for Tuscan Chicken and regular tomatoes for quiche.

I'm looking at five pots: one with two basil plants, one with dill and Italian parsley, one with oregano, one with cherry tomatoes, and one with normal tomatoes.

Had a nice nap. Apparently the Post Office is open tomorrow, so I can ship my old phone back, so I recreated my stock watch list and Runkeeper intervals on my new phone.

Had a bite to eat. Got the garbage out for pickup. I'm doing little bits of cleaning until my back hurts (I first wrote "Bach hurts" :)), and then I take a break. Threw in a load of laundry. Cleaned up a pile of junk in the kitchen. Started a box of stuff to go to the thrift shop when it opens again.

Went to put the Big Honking Lasagna™ into the oven, only to find that you have to cook it for two hours. No. I'm making French bread pizza instead. I hope tomorrow that I'll remember that the lasagna cooks for that long.

Now I'm going to watch another Harry Potter movie.

Zara in a Chewy box:

I woke up at 9 AM and decided to get up so that I'd have time for a nap before I go to AT&T. Now I'm done with the morning routine, and the girls are eating.

Someone posted some videos of rides at Disney World. I watched a couple of rides, including Pirates of the Caribbean, and now I'm singing, "Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me."

Had a good nap. Threw myself together and went to AT&T. They've gone down in my estimation because I needed to transfer the SIM card from the old phone to the new phone and no one (human or written instructions) told me that. But now it's working. I called my mom to tell her that I have a working phone and that I'll talk to her later.

Had a bite to eat. Ran out to the grocery stores. I'm still shopping silly and loading up on anything that sounds good, especially sweets. I did manage to get the ingredients for a "Dole Whip" that they sell at Disney World: pineapple juice, (frozen) pineapple, and vanilla ice cream. Yum. Susan Dennis gave me a taste for Peanut Butter and Jelly, so I got the ingredients for that. I also wound up with 15 rolls of paper towels, which is way more than I need, but those were the packages that Aldi had. And toilet paper. I'm not out, but am thinking ahead. (Hmm. I just occurred to me that maybe I should donate some rolls of paper towels to the local food bank.)

I don't think that I'm going to order Chinese food from Chi today because 1) It's raining, 2) I'm tired, and 3) I have a ridiculous amount of food in the house.

I finally got the groceries put away. Now it's storming.

I lay down for a while with Zara and Mimi but couldn't fall asleep.

Talked to Mom. She sounded good. Her leg has stopped hurting.

My mom loaned me the Harry Potter movies a while ago. I don't feel like doing anything else constructive tonight, so I'm going to watch one. I am planning to get up early to view the live feed of the Easter service at the Unitarian Church in Bloomington, but I can go back to sleep after that.

Last night, the phone ran down and shut down because the battery was dead. It rebooted, but shut down because of the battery. It rebooted again...and then started charging. I left it where it was to charge. When I'm done with breakfast, I'll shut it down and leave it to charge. Weird.

My replacement phone has shipped and is supposed to arrive today. Yay.

I really want to take a nap, but I need to stay up until the replacement phone gets here. First World problems. I'll probably grab a nap while the replacement phone is charging.

Okay, I'm done with the morning routine and am shutting the phone down.

I created Italian flash cards up to and including the number 100. I don't want to do more because I want to get the numbers 1 to 100 down first.

Four o'clock and no phone. I've been working on the piles of paper in the kitchen because I don't have to energy to do serious cleaning. I should make a grocery list.

I finally got the replacement phone at around a quarter to five, while I was having a bite to eat. (Zara thinks that it's woefully unfair that I don't give her my food.) The phone is now charging. I had thought about throwing myself together and going to Aldi while my phone charges, but instead, I think that I'll take a nap and then try to activate the phone. I need to get up earlish tomorrow to go to AT&T if I can't get the phone activated, go to Aldi, and order Chinese food from Chi.

Had a nice nap with Zara. Had a hard time getting up. Right now, files are transferring from my old device to the new one.

I couldn't activate the phone. Earlier, it gave me a cryptic message about the SIM card, but I looked for one in the box and didn't see one. So I guess that I'll need to go to AT&T tomorrow.

I installed all the apps that I had on the old phone, except for a small list that I want to see if I miss. I still need to set the apps up though. Bit by bit.

Grilled cheese and tomato soup went down well. I'm tired, so I'm going to go to bed early.

My phone suddenly charged up to 100 percent charged. So I guess that the problem is the charger and not the phone. Good. I'll stop by AT&T (assuming that I feel well enough to go out) tomorrow.

My fever has broken. Zara is hanging out on my lap. It's a better day.

I tried to take a nap after breakfast, but couldn't sleep. So I called Mom today instead of tomorrow because I wasn't sure what my phone situation would be. She's a little under the weather too. She was concerned about me, and she decided that I should have some chicken soup and watch The Crown.

I think that the wiring in here is part of the problem with charging the phone. I've had some other weird things happen, such as the microwave starting a while after plugging it in. I also pressed a reset button on one outlet and had the Google Home Mini (which is on a different outlet) restart. I plugged the charger into the power strip for my computer, and it's been chugging along charging.

I had some chicken soup. I think that I'll take a shower and then watch The Crown. I'm feeling a little more perky. Maybe I'll get some stuff done--at least, some gift-wrapping and card-writing. I asked Mom if I'd be sending germs along with my cards, but she said that she didn't think so, and to just wash my hands beforehand.

The gym that I like is reopening under new management. I hadn't canceled my Blue Cross Blue Shield gym membership, so I guess that I'll keep it going.

I ordered the kitchen island/cart that my mom is giving me for Christmas. It should arrive early next week.

I took a shower and got the stink off, and put on clean pajamas. I feel reborn.

I'm doing low-energy stuff around here (emptying the dryer and putting clothes in the dryer, dishes, Christmas cards, and the like). I hope that tomorrow I'll feel up for cleaning.

Looked up some addresses for Christmas cards. I no longer keep a personal address book because of the Internet, but it's getting harder to find addresses for free. No, I don't want to pay for a background check to get an address.

Watched an episode of The Crown. Made grilled cheese and tomato soup; we'll see how well I digest it. I think that it's time to crash.

Fall Back

Booked my travel for Christmas. I used the voucher from the fiasco of a trip when I went to see Mom in July.

Went to bed early and also had the extra hour, so I got a lot of sleep.

Figured out how to turn off Facebook notifications.

I had planned to go to the store before work, but it's raining, so I think that I'll lie down for a little while.

Went to the store after work. Had some problems finding a car charger for my new cell phone because the new phone has a USB-C connector. I finally found just the part that plugs in and has a USB port. It should work.

Found a WordPress development class to take in the spring along with my Adobe class.

I have homework. I'm thinking about going to sleep and getting up early, except that I had an idea about an assignment. I'll try the idea, then go to sleep.

New Stuff

I bought the purple laptop. Now I need to look for an academic license of Office 365. I just signed up for a free Office 365 account because I'm an educator. Awesome. I should be able to get Adobe at a discount too. Which reminded me to register for the Adobe class in the spring.

I fed the girls dry food when I first got up, but Zara was holding out for the good stuff (canned food). Guess that they weren't starving too much.

Tried to subscribe to the Wall Street Journal because reading it after work is not working out. When I get to the end of my day, I want to go home. However, it told me that I already have an account; the work account is in my name. So I guess that I need to call them to see if I can get digital access working.

My new phone hasn't learned the names of my cats yet. It turned Zara into Sara. It also turned the Wall Street Journal into the Walk Street Journal. Right.

My phone is chiming whenever someone on my friends list updates Facebook. I don't want it to do that, but haven't figured out how to turn it off. I know, RTFM. Adventures in new phone ownership....

I like that, when I talk to Mimi, she responds. We had a lively conversation going in English and Cat.

Took a nap. Amazingly, slept even though I had the long sleep yesterday.

Studied Spanish.

My Spanish lesson went well. It's hard, but private lessons are the way to go if you really want to learn a language.

Mom is doing well. We're squared away for Christmas.

Meeting Day

Overslept, but made it to the meeting on time. Made good time on the drive to Champaign. The meeting was okay. Only one surprise in it.

I was having problems with Internet access during the meeting though. I couldn't access the Internet and couldn't make calls although the phone was getting a signal. Then I tried to connect to WiFi, which didn't work at first, but then I got it to work. I figured that I'd have to take the phone in to activate it though. Then it occurred to me, maybe I hadn't rebooted the phone since it was activated? Sure enough, that did the trick. I now have Internet access and can make calls.

I think that I want to get a new purple Lenovo laptop, but I'm sleeping on the decision. Speaking of which, I'm going to go take a nap.

Took the nap, and slept straight through until morning. I haven't done that for a long time. The girls didn't eat me :) I need to feed them quickly.

I didn't get up quite as early as I planned, but got some good sleep. Paid some bills while I was drinking coffee. Realized that I forgot to do my timesheet yesterday, so I need to run in while I run my errands and do it.

Wrote out my errand list. Then I kept thinking of things that I forgot. This is why I'm writing them out.

Checked my e-mail before I headed out, and saw an e-mail saying that my car registration had expired. Oops. I meant to renew it last Friday. So that errand went on the top of the list. Ran over to the DMV, ran in, and was done in about 5 minutes. Can't beat that.

Dropped off and picked up some books and magazines at the library. Stopped by my dentist to get an itemized receipt, but they were closed. Stopped by work and filled out my timesheet. Realized that I forgot to put getting gas on my list. Got gas and put air in my tires.

Went to AT&T and told them about the problems that I was having with my phone. After testing my phone, she determined that the problem was with the connection port, which was what I was afraid of. I have insurance on the phone, and we talked about that, but I really wanted a working phone before my trip to Champaign-Urbana tomorrow and my phone call with Mom on Saturday. The deductible on the insurance was half the price of a new phone. So I wound up getting a new phone. I had to cool my heels in the store for quite a while while the new phone was being activated and my data transferred over to the new phone. I read one of the magazines that I checked out of the library. Finally it finished.

I ran to Aldi and scored the last two garlic french-bread pizzas and some White Castle sliders. Ran to Dollar Tree and picked up a few things.

Was driving home and realized that I had a couple of things to pick up at Walmart that I hadn't put on the list, but I had homework to finish, so I went home. I'll go back out after I finish the homework.

Ate dinner. Homework awaits.

Mom Report

Jan. 13th, 2018 10:54 pm

Napped a little, but still couldn't get very deeply asleep. So I got up and got more stuff done.

I'm having a problem with my phone in that when I called my mom, I could hear her only very faintly and not loud enough to understand. I rebooted my phone. Same thing. I finally turned on speakerphone, and then I could hear her. After I hung up, I tried playing a video, with the same results. So the sound is turned off somewhere. But I can't figure out where. It says that the ringtone is on full blast.

Mom has been very tired and mostly has been sleeping. She talked to her doctor about it, and he said that it's to be expected with the multiple myeloma and the chemo. That doesn't help Mom much. She's also having a rough time handling the winter.

The blueberry crepes that I bought at Aldi's are really good.

I think that I'll do some planning stuff. The 168 hours audiobook challenged me to come up with 100 things that I want to do during my life, along with keeping a time log. So I think that I'll work on it for a while before going to sleep.

One of those things is live in Hawaii. I'm completely appalled by the false alert sent out. I have to admit that I'm taking it more personally because it's Hawaii. A bunch of articles have been talking about how we could get into a nuclear war by accident. What a stupid way to die.

Okay, the black cat and the calico cat. Harlee stayed in my room for a couple of days, and decided that she wanted out again. Since then, she and Random have had a fight, including yowling (my neighbors must love me), at least once a day.

But wait--there's more. I woke up this morning to find kitty diarrhea all over the bathroom. (I'm now assuming that was Harlee, and she and Random had a fight that I slept through. Yes, I'm not kidding when I say that I'm a heavy sleeper.)

Then they had another fight in the evening that I did break up, and Harlee also had diarrhea on the living room carpet. Lovely.

Harlee now growls whenever she sees Random. I think that's part of what's causing the fights. Random actually is easier to calm down after a fight than Harlee is.

I don't know what to do. I had the bright idea for a while of using one of the bookcases as a "door," so that Harlee had a little room of her own with food, water, and a litter box. The only way to get in or out was over a high mound of boxes. Well, that lasted only as long as Harlee wanted it to last, and then over the boxes she went, and that's when she had a fight with Random. I can't stay home all the time to referee, and I need to sleep.

I'm at the end of my rope.

Also, there's an update on the telephone saga. Talk America said that my new phone number was activated on the 13th. However, I don't get a dial tone with my cordless phone. I got a cheap corded phone tonight at WalMart, and I'll try the jacks again.

I wonder whose line got turned on instead of mine.

And finally, I found some information on the Internet (from [livejournal.com profile] iamnotbroken) about changing your sleep patterns and waking up when the alarm first goes off. I've had mixed success, but I'll keep at it.
