It looks like an electric lawn mower that I was interested in is still available. It has only one battery port that works, but I have a small lawn. And it comes with a weedwhacker, and it's cheap. I need to contact people on Friday. There also is a cheap hose and a drying rack that I'm interested in. I'll have to get an adapter for the hose because my faucet is tiny.

I did pay my bills, except for the rent because it hasn't posted yet. I didn't clean.

Well, crud. I thought that the movie Rocketman was opening this weekend, but it's not playing in town. I'd have to go to Bloomington or Springfield to see it.

Overslept, and woke up at 10 AM.

The girls know when in my morning routine they're going to be fed. They pace and get into feeding position like lions in a zoo :)

Trying to figure out what to do when during the weekend. I think that I'll run local errands on Saturday because it's supposed to rain. Then I'll get the mower, etc., on Sunday if it works out for the people selling them. I really want a shoe rack that's in Springfield, but don't think that I'll have time to get everything this weekend.

The all-important dry cat food was delivered. Zara is sniffing the box.

The generic Claritin is still working--no headaches--but it makes me so sleepy. Can't stop yawning.

Our dehumidifier at work leaked, and Maintenance put fans near the leak to dry the carpet. One of the fans is squeaking, and it is driving me crazy.

I did get a headache when I was reading at the kitchen table. Maybe I'm getting headaches because of how I'm sitting?

I want to make a roast and carve my own roast beef for sandwiches. However, I need an electric knife. Someone on Facebook Marketplace is selling a good one for $4. I'm wondering if I could get up early enough on Saturday to buy the knife and the hose. I'm not going to buy a roast until I have the knife in hand.

Cleaned the kitchen counters. I'm starting on my online grocery shopping. Paid my rent. Finished my online grocery shopping, but won't check out until tomorrow in case I think of something else.

Spent some time looking through Ibotta and figuring out my strategy for saving money (on stuff that I need anyway). Onwards to the stores!

Want to learn to make soy candles and give them as Christmas gifts this year. I saw some gorgeous tins to use for candles.

Woke up with my alarm at 9 AM. Promptly ordered dry cat food.

Hmm. When I wasn't drinking diet cola, I didn't get headaches. Now I'm drinking diet cola, and voila! Headaches. Maybe I need to phase it out completely. Or maybe it's more humid now. Today is the first day that it's been uncomfortably humid. They're also predicting storms, so it could be the barometric pressure.

Went back on Amazon. Ordered Spark Joy and The Complete Book of Home Organization. Also bought the jewelry organizer and supplies to make laundry detergent.

Hmm. I thought about lying down to get rid of my headache, but I need to go to the store. Don't want to go tonight because it's supposed to storm. Hmm. Need to look at my list. I can feed the girls with more wet food in lieu of dry.

I did lie down for a few minutes. Decided to go into work early and go to Walmart over dinner.

Apparently, there is a subReddit for Eating Cheap and Healthy. Need to check it out.

Ran to Walmart over dinner. The majority of the stuff that I bought had an Ibotta rebate or a coupon. Go me. I bought a small package of the generic version of Claritin to see if that makes a difference in my headaches. If it doesn't work, I'm not out of a lot of money. Also discovered that Walmart is carrying Blue Buffalo dry cat food. If Zara will eat it (If?? She's picky), it would be more convenient than ordering Purina Pro Plan, and it's good food.

Picked up some laundry detergent at Walgreens for $1 off. It's a small bottle, but I've ordered the ingredients to make my own detergent, so it should be okay. Walgreens also had some L'Oreal shampoo and conditioner that I wanted to try on sale.

Holy cow. Found the bike helmet that I liked on REI's site for half-off on another site. And this one is lavender!  Far out. Just need to check the size. I think that I fall between two sizes though. It pays to shop around! Found a taillight set with turn signals and headlight set with a horn on eBay. Don't need them until I relearn to ride though. Do need the helmet. Aargh. I need a medium size, and I can get the medium size only at full price on eBay. I can get a beige one for $10 off on the other site. Need to sleep on this.

I'm feeling hot and cranky. Going to bed soon and getting up early, blah, blah, blah.
days_unfolding: (Default)
I flipped through Downsizing Your Home with Style. It's more about deciding what furniture to keep rather than culling your junk. Back it goes to the library on Tuesday.

Mimi was dozing on the bed with me instead of Zara. Now they're both gone. Too hot for togetherness? Though I kept on complaining that Mimi was getting between me and my book. Eventually she gave up.

Looked at bike helmets on eBay, but I don't want a cheap one. Looked at helmets on REI's site. Much better. I think that it's time to relearn how to ride my bike so that I can bike to work and save money on gas.

Woke up at 8 AM. Went back to sleep. Woke up at 10:30. Mimi was licking a roll of paper towels when I woke up. Don't ask me why. Because cat. I took them away from her. At least, she didn't shred them.

Forgot to feed the girls at first. Bad Mommy. I was drinking coffee and looking at articles on my phone while they were STARVING!

Read a Krazy Coupon Lady article, and apparently she has an app that you can use to customize offers from your local stores. Far out. She even includes rebate offers from the Ibotta app.

Napped with Miss Z.

Priced bike cargo trailers. There aren't any on Facebook Marketplace, and they're kind of expensive new. But I need to learn to ride the bike first.

Got the shakes, so I made something to eat.

Finished culling my tops. Taking a break. Looked at the ad for CVS deals, but there's no way to create a shopping list, at least not in the app.

I have a couple of tops that I'm not sure about off to one side, and Mimi promptly lay down on them.

Finished culling my clothes. The closet is still full, but at least, the clothes aren't so crammed that Zara could walk on them. (She actually did that in the old place.)

Switched gears and started a grocery list. I want to pick up up a few things, most notably dry cat food, before work tomorrow.

Logged onto my laptop in the hopes of printing out a CVS list and a coupon. Google Chrome is off in limbo. I have a headache, so I took some acetaminophen, and am lying down. Maybe Chrome will have loaded by the time that I get up. </snark>

Napped. Made a CVS list. Printed coupons. Ate dinner.

My headache is back, so I'm going to go to bed after I feed the cats.

Food Coma

Did some research into Illinois road trips. Mom and I could go to Cahokia Mounds for around $55 a night and a two-hour drive. Galena would be $105 a night (and I'd want to stay two nights) and a 3.5-hour drive. I would really like to go to Galena though.

Lincoln College has called me three or four times about a severe thunderstorm warning (early Sunday AM). We just had a LOUD clap of thunder. Maybe I should log off my computer and calm the cats. Quite a light show. Now there's a flash flood warning too. The warning on my phone startled Zara. Finally, the storm finished. I don't think that I could have slept through it.

Woke up at 8 AM. Went back to sleep. Woke up at noon.

I checked the local paper online, and it didn't mention damage from last night's storm.

My stomach is a little upset. I don't know why.

Napped for a while. The girls are completely zonked.

Reading through r/frugal on Reddit, and someone suggested having a moving fund in your budget. That's a good idea, although an emergency fund could do the same thing.

The girls are now up. Good.

Got the shakes, so I made some Ramen.

Logged onto my laptop to save an article, "How to Do Walt Disney World Like a Rock Star", to Pinterest. Expensive suggestions, but also good suggestions.

Threw myself together. Ran out and got a couple of bottles of soda. I'm going to make a rule that I may drink soda only when I clean or organize. That way, I can cut down on my soda consumption and give myself a treat (and more energy) while I clean.

Zara did some serious snuggling with me.

I'm wondering if I should put the garbage out when tomorrow's a holiday, and it's not likely to get picked up. The garbage disposal Facebook site said no pickup tomorrow.

I'm working on the closet. I'm doing a modified "Spark Joy" sort in that I'm doing all of one category at a time rather than all my clothes at one time. I'm running into clothes that I think that I should want, but don't really want. I'm finding this culling a lot harder than the t-shirts were. Though I really have too much stuff in my closet and need to be ruthless.

Made turkey breasts, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and gravy. Dead easy and delicious! And I have some left over for tomorrow! I also piggybacked on the heated oven by putting in some banana bread ( from a mix).

Finished culling the blazers. Have a big bag of clothes to go to the thrift store. Went through one of the baskets that came from the linen closet in my old place.

I'm in a food coma (although I ate a slice of banana bread to try it). I'm going to go read and go to sleep early. Tomorrow is another day..

Woke up a little after my alarm at 10 AM.

Forgot to mention that Walmart is having free grocery pickup. In fact, there's $10 off the first order. You set a time for pickup, and they do the shopping for you. I might as well use it as long as it's free. I'm assuming that they'll eventually charge for it.

Forgot to mention that last night, the rain was lashing the windows, which unnerved the cats. Zara came over and lay down on my chest. Poor Z. I comforted her as best that I could. Apparently, I was lucky that I lost power only momentarily. The power is out today in several parts of Lincoln. I heard that the tornado touched down in SE Lincoln, near the high school, although I also heard that the weather folks weren't sure if we had a tornado. Lots of tree branches down though. And there was a flipped truck on the highway slightly north of us.

Mimi got white fur on my black pants. Thanks, Mimi.

It just occurred to me instead of saving articles of interest to Evernote, I could pin them on Pinterest. I might work on that some tonight. I did start on that. It's a good thing to do when I get home from work and am tired. I also signed up for Keepa, which tracks the price on Amazon items, and lets you know when they drop. I thought about using it for my Calculus book in the fall, but they're using a custom book. Aargh. That figures.

But now, I think that it's time to do the dishes and tidy up, and then toddle off to bed. I have three books that I want to read: The Crystal Singer trilogy by Anne McCaffrey, The Insider's Guide to Baltimore, and Swedish Death Cleaning. I'll work it out. I'm glad that we'll have a long weekend.
days_unfolding: (Default)
Had problems falling asleep last night. Hit my snooze button a few times this morning, and got up at 10:30 AM. Zara was on the bed, and Mimi was on the wicker chest.

I thought that it felt cold this morning. It's in the 50s. I'm tired of this yo-yo weather. It'll be back in the 80s later this week.

Mimi was perched on my lap while I was drinking coffee. I asked her if she wanted food, and she promptly jumped off of my lap. I gather that was a "yes".

The library does have a laminator. I asked my boss if I could use it if I bought the supplies for it, and he said, "Yes". It'll be cheaper than getting my own one or using Kinko's.

Left the lights on when I went to dinner. (The library is closed at that hour during the summer, and I usually shut them off when I go to dinner.) Way to go, Adrienne.

Found a free budgeting system printable that's exactly what I want. I also want to try the envelope budget system for groceries and discretionary spending. Also found a blog on frugal living that's pretty good: A Cultivated Nest. One of the articles was about disposable items that you can replace with reusable items. Both frugal and "green" too!

Fried another hamburger to eat with the leftover veggie tots, and the smoke alarms went off. Sigh. Even if I press the shutoff button, they're silent for a moment and then start up again.

I'm tired. I'm going to do my nightly cleanup because I want to get into the habit, but no organizing for me tonight. I hope that I'll get some stuff done in the morning.

Woke up at 11 AM. Construction workers are fixing the road by my house, and making lots of noise, but I don't think that woke me up. Mimi slept with me at least part of the night.

Ordered dry cat food from Amazon. Trying to decide whether to get the book about The Villages or not. (I can't get it from Amazon.)

Zara came over to where I was sitting, put two of her paws on my shoulders, and loved me up. Awww.

I'm working on a grocery list. I want to make two tomato-basil quiches to use the fresh basil up before the plant dies in the cold. I should make meatballs to use up the Italian parsley too, but I don't think that I'll get both done this weekend.

Forgot to mention that I'd like to learn how to play tennis, but that isn't a really high priority right now. I'd also like to learn to play golf, but that's a more expensive hobby. I do have some woman's golf clubs that someone was selling on a garage sale site.

Overslept my nap. Cursed and vaulted out of bed. Made it to the credit union before it closed. (One advantage of small towns.) Got a new charger for my cell phone. I was looking at a closed store and thinking how depressing that was, when I went to Burger King--and it was closed permanently. Not surprised, but still....Backtracked to Hardee's and ate a ridiculous amount of food.

I was trying to get to Walmart in time to pick up Zara's prescription (the pharmacy closed at 8 PM, and it was 7), so I broke speed records at Dollar Tree and Aldi. Made it to the pharmacy in time. Shopped more leisurely at Walmart.

I'm determined to start tracking my expenses, so I got a small notebook with a pocket for receipts. I'm looking for a way to input my expenses into a spreadsheet or something like that. Maybe I should just use a spreadsheet so that I can customize it as I like.

I'm thinking that I should make my tuna casserole (although I'm not hungry after that huge Hardee's meal), but I need to sit a little.

After procrastinating for a while, I finished the homework for one class. I need to get a notebook for the second class tomorrow. No, I found a binder and some paper. That'll do.

Read a couple of chapters of a book about REITs. It has been helpful already. I've invested in a REIT for senior living centers and nursing homes, and it said that most of the money from health care REITs comes from dividends, not appreciation. I don't feel comfortable investing in apartment REITs, and investing in retail REITs is crazy with all the mall vacancies. Anyway, I learned something. (The autocorrect wants to change REITs to TWITs. Hmm.)

It seems like a lot of investing is finding investments that won't work for you. Though I'm accumulating a list of investments to buy during a recession.

Woke up at 6:30 AM. Went back to sleep. Woke up at 10 AM. Got up, but felt groggy, so I went back to sleep. Woke up at 2 PM. Feel great. Mimi was fractious because she was hungry, but I hastily fed her.

I'm still wondering what's going on in Hawaii, so I decided to look at Hawaii Web cams. Apparently I'm not the only one that had that idea. But now I need to update Flash. I supplied my Facebook account to enter a contest for a free trip to Hawaii. I'm getting "This Webcam is currently not available". Guess that they took them in.

Another local store is going out of business, which doesn't bode well for Lincoln, but everything's 50% off. I've never had much luck with their clothes, but they have a set of cast-iron skillets that I want to get when I get paid.

I cleaned the kitchen listening to Canine Confidential. Interesting, so far. I forgot to mention that I was out for a walk, and a dog that I thought would greet me growled at me. I backed up and fell over the curb. His human said that she didn't know why he did that and usually he was friendly, and I said that there must have been something about me that he didn't like.

Mom is going to visit my aunt and uncle in Chicago next week. She said that she was going to get an early start and would stop if she needed to rest.

And rest in peace, John McCain. I didn't agree with all his political stances, but he was a good and honorable person. We need more good people in politics.

I was worried about Zara not coming down off of the cat tree to drink water, so I put the water on top of my dresser. She drank a lot and looks better. Now she's lurking like a vulture on top of the dresser.

I slept 9.5 hours, which helped. Zara was deeply asleep when I got up, which I was glad to see. Maybe she's starting to relax.

Mimi keeps trying to chew my glasses. I told her that the glasses were a lot more expensive than she was.

Zara seems much better. She made a fuss over me when I went to fill her food and water. Good to see. And she's lounging.

Mimi and I are battling over the kitchen chair. (The other one has stuff piled on it.)

I just felt a cat rub against my leg, and no one was there.

Another way that I'm trying to be frugal is by cutting the cosmetic wipes that I use to clean off my makeup in half. It seems to be working okay.

My Roth IRA and Acorns accounts are accumulating money. Good to see.

I'm looking for books on being a snowbird (one possibility would be to live in Champaign-Urbana and snowbird during the winter, although that would mean dealing with Central Illinois' humid summers), but no one has written a book about it. Maybe I should do it and write one.

Found an RV park that I'd like to go to: a park in Panama City Florida that's across from the beach and has a dog park. Its monthly rate is a little pricey, but oh, does it sound heavenly.

Harlee has decided that my bed is her bed. We're still working this out  :) Mimi's nose is out of joint because usually she sleeps with me, but she won't share the bed with Harlee. Oh, the drama.

Having a rare bout of insomnia. I think that it's because I forgot to take my nighttime meds. Also, Harlee is lying right next to me, and I'm worried about rolling over and squishing her. Mimi likes to lie in a similar spot, but Mimi is huge and rugged. Harlee is old and frail. I tried to relocate her to the foot of the bed, but she wants this spot instead. "Never try to outstubborn a cat." -- Heinlein. I finally was too restless, and she got up and wandered off. Then she came back. I woke up on the other side of her from where I went to sleep. Not sure how that happened, but Harlee wasn't squished.

All the cats slept in different spots: Harlee on the bed (Mimi's spot), Zara on the futon (Harlee's spot), and Mimi on the cat tree. Harlee had ventured out of the bedroom when I came home for dinner.

The zipper on my purse has given up the ghost. I was looking at other purses, but the purse itself is okay; I just need a fastener. So I'm looking at "sew-in" purse clasps. I'll need to get more than I need, but it's still cheaper than buying a new purse. Frugal!

I picked up Laura Ingalls Wilder's autobiography, Pioneer Girl, from the library. It's her complete autobiography, including incidents that she thought might be too upsetting for the Little House books. Should be interesting.

I read an article about how New York City has lost its soul due to international investors who don't live in New York. So, me being me, I looked into a trip to New York in December sometime. I'd like to take the train (although flying might be cheaper?), but Amtrak's site has been weirding out, so I can't find out how much it costs. I figured out what was wrong, and if I wanted a roomette, it would cost a ridiculous amount of money. I think that sleeping in a coach seat would be the way to go. I can sleep pretty well on public transportation. There are surprisingly cheap Airbnb's in New York.

Speaking of travel, I booked my train travel to and from my mom's house.

I need to get up earlish to cover the front desk worker's lunch. It'll just be him and me tomorrow.

Ravengirl suggested that I use vinegar and water to "freshen" my clothes so that I can wear them again before washing them. I bought a spray bottle, and I already have vinegar.

I did a quick run to the grocery store tonight. Stouffer's had a frozen dinner of tuna casserole, so I thought that I'd try it, and make some from scratch if I like it. In high school, I decided that tuna gave me a headache, but we'll see what happens this time. Tuna certainly is cheap.

I ordered a new cord for my netbook, and I can't wait until I get it. It's kind of a pain updating on my phone.

Sugar High

I previously bought a frozen turkey and stuffing casserole that was delicious. Now I'm looking at making one from scratch.  Found a recipe that doesn't seem too hard.

Read an article about modifying your home to "age in place". My mom's house is a nightmare for an older person, with no banister on the stairs and lots of throw rugs, but I doubt that I could convince her to make modifications. I'm worried about her falling.

I'm trying to convince myself to wear an outfit more than once before washing it, but on the other hand, it's summer, so that might not be a good idea.

I think that my boss wants to keep us on a caffeine and sugar high at work. He's been bringing in Coke and Diet Coke, and today, he brought in Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.

I've received a mentor from my branch of the national library association, and he seems gung-ho about being a mentor. I hope that this mentorship will work well for the both of us.

Last night, I gave Harlee her subcutaneous fluids. She was a good girl. Well, except for hanging onto her bed for dear life when I picked her up.

I looked at refurbished laptops on eBay, and also found some for $100. They're from established sellers though, which might be the way to go.

Mimi went from my lap to the table. Me, repeatedly: "Mimi, off the table." She ignored me. Then I touched her, and said, "Off." She went, "Oh, you mean me," and got off of the table. Who do you think that I was talking to, Mimi?

I looked into taking MegaBus to Detroit, but it's slightly more expensive than driving, I'd have to overnight in Chicago unless I take the later bus, and my mom would have to pick me up. (I'd have time to work on stuff on the bus though.)  It was worth a look though. The train is more expensive. The place where I normally get gas en route to Chicago has some of the most expensive gas in the area.

I'm investigating tuna casserole recipes.

I'm looking at desktop computers because they're cheaper, and I'll need some sort of decent computer for school in the fall. (One class is covering PHP, so I'm wondering if I'll need to install MySQL.) I don't really need a laptop because I use my netbook on trips (and, in fact, I'm using it now). I could get a decent refurbished desktop computer plus monitor for around $150. Good to know. Hmm, someone is selling a used Lenovo laptop (and those things last a long time) in Springfield for $100.

Zara had to check out what I was eating for breakfast. I said, "Okay, Zara, sniff my grits." Then I decided that sounded rude :)

I went to the coffee shop to set up my price book and read, only to find that the coffee shop had closed, and there's a new coffee shop there that's open more limited hours. Damn.

I set up the price book, and wrote down prices at Walmart and Kroger. I'm feeling pleased with myself. However, someone backed into me in the Walmart parking lot. I initially didn't see much damage, so I said that it was okay, but then later saw some paint flaking off. That was a bad financial decision on my part.

Storming this evening. I went and walked in the area of the moldy book, but didn't see any leaking.

We got out an hour early today because of the holiday. And now, it's a three-day weekend. I have a lot to do, but somewhere along the line, I'd like to take some books, use my coffee shop gift card, and read.

I've been reading The Tightwad Gazette, and it's interesting, but dated. In it, the author suggests using powdered milk instead of regular milk. I thought, okay, I use milk in my grits and coffee only, so why not. Well, powdered milk is more expensive than regular milk now. The book still has some interesting ideas though.

I'm seriously considering feeding the cats and going to bed. I'm a wild and crazy party animal, clearly.
days_unfolding: (Default)
Looking at bike locks because I want to retrieve my bike out of storage and start practicing riding. (If I don't go to Detroit over Memorial Day weekend, that would be a good time to start.) I'll need to keep it outside, but there is a fence to which I could lock it. Found a lock on Amazon that was highly rated and not too expensive.

There are a gazillion rabbits in the neighborhood, which might not bode well for my plants. I looked at nets, but want to give the plants time to get settled and root before I put them under a net. We'll see how this goes.

Mimi is settled on my lap while I look at my phone. Now my leg is asleep. Mimi is a BIG kitty.

I have two items on my grocery list. First, I forgot one item. Then I remembered the first item, but forgot the other item. Then I remembered both items, and hastily wrote them down. Sheesh.

I tried giving Harlee her subcutaneous fluids (yes, I haven't done it before. I suck), but she didn't seem to be getting any fluids. Then the needle came out. After Harlee left, I found a clip that was keeping it closed. Now I know what to do, so I can do better next time.

Zara thinks that the area that I set up to do Harlee's fluids (on top of the freezer) is a great kitty bed. I put a towel on top to keep Harlee comfortable. Zara wants to play with the tubing, though, so I need to go rescue it.

Washed the kitchen floor before work.

Mimi likes rubber bands. If there's one in the same room as her, she'll find it. I have a rubber band around their dry food bag, and she loves to snap it. I finally had to put the food on the top shelf, but sometimes I forget to put it up there.

Quiet morning. Mimi is on my lap. Zara is snoozing on the shelves near the window. I assume that Harlee is asleep, but haven't checked on her yet. No, she was daydreaming on her bed in the living room window. Took care of the kitty inputs and outputs. Wrote an e-mail to my dad that got eaten by the computer.

I've started turning off the power strip to the TV, DVD/VCR player, cable modem, and router while I'm at work to decrease the "vampire" energy drain.

It's looking like I can pull off the trip to visit Mom at the end of the month. I need to double check with my boss though because he's probably forgotten about it.

We're running into snags in our project at work; I'm fielding e-mails from my boss today.

Took a nap and had some lunch. I had a bad case of  "I don't want to do anything," but I threw myself together to run errands.

Bought cat food, kitty litter, and some herb plants (basil, dill, Italian parsley, and mint) and a tomato plant. Planted the herbs and tomato. Now I'm sitting for a few minutes, and then I'll get cracking on cleaning.

I more-or-less woke up to my alarm today. Far out. It's slightly rainy and cooler.

I forgot to mention that I checked out the second season of Victoria from the library. And I have a lot to do this weekend, so I'm not sure how I'm going to make this work. it would give me some time to do some mending though. I also need to see if the new cable fixes the color problem playing DVDs from my DVD player.

I opened one of the kitchen windows last night and got some cool air in. I closed it before I went to bed though because there are druggies in town who break into houses. I tried to open my bedroom window for a little while, but one of the latches was stuck.

I found some food that Harlee really likes. It's some of the cheap Fancy Feast food that I feed the other two, which isn't good for her kidneys, but at this point, I'll feed her what she wants. They have a variety that's shredded meat, and Harlee gobbles it right up.

I found some decent Airbnb deals on Kauai island. Oddly enough, the best deals are in a kind of ritzy area that's near a gorgeous bay. Won't argue with that though. Basically, there are deals anywhere but Maui. I'm going to start tracking flight prices with Google Flights to get a better idea of how far out to book a flight to get the best rate. (No, I don't have the money right now, but at least, I can educate myself.)  I found a book in our library about a woman who chucked her high-powered job to move to Kauai, and she got involved in environmental concerns. Must read.

There's a lot of different things going on at work at the same time. I've started making lists to try to not forget anything. We got our dumpster, and I've started throwing out old periodical indexes from the days before online databases. Throwing them out is fun in a weird way. Boom!!

My vision insurance posted a newsletter. In it, it talked about photo-sensitive glasses lenses that are good for indoors, outdoors, and driving. I want that, even if it is expensive.

I scored some free ("open") textbooks on computer science to read this summer.

Thunderstorm. More booms. Rain. We're going to have book soup in the dumpster. It was just a stray storm though, and it's over.

I found a look that I like with the cheap eyeshadows from Dollar Tree and a L'Oreal eyeliner. I went to Dollar Tree over dinner, and loaded up with more eyeshadow and some nail polish. The guy checking me out said, "Mmm, mmm, mmm. Someone has a date." I didn't say anything :)

Apparently Gmail now has an autocomplete feature that suggests entire e-mails. Why so I feel like it's the start of the end of the world as we know it? It probably just means that I'm getting old.

Forgot to mention that I was trying to convince my dad to go to Molokai, which is a smaller island near Maui in Hawaii. It's off of the beaten path; a Web site called it "Hawaii as of 50 years ago," which is around the time that we started going there (which is scary!) Dad told me to go and give him a trip report. So I need to save money so that I can travel. It sounds like a relaxing, laid-back trip.

I solved a problem. John Frieda is no longer making my hair color. I found a color that I like from Madison Reed. It's more expensive, but it's also better color. I need to use up what I have first though.

The kitchen light was flickering on and off last night. I thought that the bulb was going, but it kept doing that for over an hour. I guess that the voltage is fluctuating. No, it's out completely now.

Had problems getting moving, but I did stay up late reading. Still, I would have gotten over seven hours of sleep. I keep forgetting to take my morning meds, so that's probably part of the problem. Also, one of my nighttime meds tires me out.

I wrote my dad for tips on lowering my energy bill. He told me to not worry about the cats; "until they pay the electric bill, they don't get a vote". I figured that he'd say something like that. He also told me to let Mimi out, which is not going to happen. But I'll try leaving the lights off in the evening  and see how it goes.
